When you're shipping glorified advertisements DLC to the game before fixing the utterly broken simulation aspects people wanted in the face of the most disastrous launch we've seen in the industry then yeah, I would say that's going to backfire a bit on them. |

Plenty of normal people immigrate to the US every day, often under conditions of duress and strife in their home country. The whole system isn't meant to be judged by 2 idiots who took advantage. As for green cards vs citizenship, there's so much involved I would barely know where to start. Immigration reform is on the table right now but its an uphill battle getting a 2 party solution.

The letter from the teacher saying the student should accept her teaching even though she admits she was wrong is fantastic. I would have loved to be the parent answering that one. I would sit down after dinner and take my time relishing every word in response, just excoriating that idiot in a letter CC'd to the whole staff there. Yes let's teach our kids to just blindly accept everything and that people who are wrong shouldn't have to admit it. I had teachers who got confused and got things wrong in the classroom before, they managed to admit it and retain authority by making light of themselves a bit. |

Creston Ha! New revenue stream! Microtransactions to bypass the QTE's. Microtransactions to bypass the advertisements for x seconds, etc.... You underestimate EA, this is the company that shipped Toothpaste "DLC" for the still utterly busted SimCity. Microtransactions on the microtransactions will be the wave of the future. |

| Undying was awesome, great mix of tension and jump scares. The story was convoluted but the characters were really interesting and they did an awesome job on the level design. I wish we could play a modern remake of that. |

Nope. I've never played more than 10 minutes of a game developed in Japan. Never liked the play style, stories, or characters. Japanese devs don't all design with a similar mindset and approach any more than Western devs do. There many western influenced Japanese dev houses these days too. If you really can't find a Japanese designed game to enjoy in the history of the gaming industry then I don't even know what to say, that's absurd.
I don't even want to think that there is someone out there who didn't enjoy Super Mario World |

BitWraith wrote on Apr 19, 2013, 10:54: I got a 10% boost in framerates. Metro is the exact same thing as the effing start menu, just displayed more graphically. Also, please don't bring up the search bar - all you have to do in 8 is start typing and the search comes up automatically (I guess that was too complicated for IT nerds to figure out) Eh I've measured a one second difference between boot times with 7 vs 8 on an SSD with my system so *shrug*. Most people these days use S3 sleep or hibernate anyway. Windows 7 was nowhere near as clunky as Vista, they disabled a lot of unneeded services and other bloat, it's why the hardware requirements between them are so different. A 10% across the board frame rate boost is very dubious (and likely more related to driver improvements than OS) and no one has a problem with typing searches, its things like the category selection that introduced workflow annoyances for enthusiasts. Casual users on the other hand have to be trained for this stuff and you don't change things for no reason other than wanting an ecosystem for your app offering.
Windows 8 is fine as a very minor incremental upgrade on Windows 7 when it was $15-40 but they've been raising the prices since. They needed to bring a lot more to the table these days. Their main selling point was Metro which people didn't care for much in beta but they ignored feedback and pressed on. The reception to the interface in general has been very poor from the public, press and enthusiasts. It's fixable with some tweaks but Microsoft has shown a bizarre stubbornness in this area so who knows what will happen.
Microsoft's shared ecosystem vision is largely a failure so far. They are playing against their traditional strengths by trying to marry touch screen apps with traditional desktop/laptop interfaces and the market for these things is mostly a consumptive audience well served by tablets anyway. I get what they were shooting for here but they didn't pull it off yet.

If so you were only fooling yourself No, quite obviously I was hoping the teamPixel kickstarter would get it first. *shakes head*
I will assume the worst, that some company bought the Homeworld IP just to sit on it for five years then make a FPS that is somewhat Homeworld related. Yeah, I will just be super pessimistic about this and any good news will just be a pleasant surprise |

PC Manufacturers Say Windows 8 Has Driven Millions To Become Apple Users. Man I knew it was bad with casual users but that bad? Wow. Ironically most of the enthusiasts seem to have stayed with Windows 7 or figured out how to disable Dumbtro and made peace with Windows 8. I guess casual users just didn't find it very desirable, certainly not enough to stop seeking the Apple brand. |

Hijacking this topic because EA social games are boring anyway. A friend of mine was showing me how utterly busted the simulation side of SimCity was. I thought I knew but in reality I only had a tiny impression of just how fucked that game is.
He was able to build a 100% residential city somehow and it was functional in the most bizarre way. How does EA address it? They could have fixed the underlying problems but no, instead they literally put in a few lines of code to detect when someone was doing this build and it just causes your city to go shit. I think that more than anything else speaks to how EA approaches games in general - short term, minimum cost affairs that they can put the bare minimum into.
But hey at least they got the toothpaste "DLC" shipped. Yeah sorry your DLC is no longer DLC when its a fucking advertisement. |

| I actually do like to do that once in awhile, it lends impression to a world space that is more than the character. Unfortunately FF14 never found a good balance for it and I'm just uninterested in their remake. I think it was a commendable but foolish idea to do this. It failed, move on. |

That said, the series needs to do a Patrick Duffy, sleep off everything past Season 1 as a dream that didn't happen. A hero/villian that kills all time travelers. So they can move forward from the end of season one, not get caught up in the back and forth realities. Season one great, the rest average. The best part was as it went along there was another person entity higher up the food chain. Yeah I've never seen a show go downhill so quickly, season 1 was so promising then they totally fucked it up. Between Ali Larter being 3-4 different characters and them totally ruining Sylar multiple times I just don't ever want to see that show again. |

I will say that Dead Rising 2, despite feeling very much like a console game, was fantastic however. I really wish they had ported Dragon's Dogma to PC. Yeah agreed. I played it on the PS3 and it looked like a vaseline smeared mess and had often annoying amounts of screen tearing. Good game but man that one needed a PC port. What's weird is that Capcom normally ports most things to the PC but for some reason just decided not to for this particular game, no clue why. |

Microsoft reportedly looking to revive 'Heroes' TV series as Xbox original content. It's great they have millions to spend on this but not making a few new exclusive franchises for their gaming console. Call of Duty exclusive DLC for 30 days sure whets my appetite. |
