Looking at it from a different perspective, do you really want to build your entire product around something an unscrupulous competitor could DDOS?
I hope these are nothing are just rumors but seeing comments from people like that idiot really make you wonder. |

People are discovering the controllers have a huge design flaw already and I'm not sure this company can afford a recall.
I don't have a screenshot handy (on my cell) but basically where the controller separates to allow for a battery swap also overlaps with the right control stick. There is a piece of plastic overhanging that doesn't match correctly and will let the stick get caught on it.
Not good! |

I just built a new HTPC on this platform: http://us.shuttle.com/barebone/Models/DS61V1.1.html
It's small, quiet, and I still get to pick my CPU, storage, and memory. but the on-board graphics are just barely adequate for gaming. Once that's resolved, I'll probably ditch the tower PC. Yeah I keep hoping for crazy GPU external cards but latency is just too high right now for this to work for the kind of gaming I like to do. |

avianflu wrote on Apr 5, 2013, 13:21: sorry but 30fps on next gen console games = lame and lazy devs. I'm not really so tied down to framerate personally, it depends on the genre and game.
Me too would love to see Microshaft fail with their always online bull shit if it is true even. I am also curious why would they want such requirements, and how will that hinder games, if you are not connected you can't save? Ones you activate your game you can not sell it anymore etc etc? The whole thing is just ridiculous. Gaming is supposed to be a fun hobby, not this horseshit where you have to worry about the status of the games you purchase and worry about being interrupted in a singleplayer game because your net drops out. The living room is not the place for this kind of crap, consumers are barely tolerant of it on the PC.

Just having a solid internet connection isn't enough though. Routing, hardware outages and provisioning are just as likely to be affected. Many factors are outside of your control, I remember people in the Diablo 3 thread who were like "my internet is always fine u whiners hurrrrr". They didn't understand that's just one of dozens of things that could interrupt sessions but they sure as hell understand now after witnessing Diablo 3 and SimCity. Imagine that scenario being ever present for all of your singleplayer games. Sounds like fun to me |

| The concept of a personal computer will continue for a long time, they just might not be a monolithic tower that sits in a corner of your house. All I care about is capability, if I can get a good form factor that is portable with most of the power I want then I'm happy either way, I don't give a shit what its labeled as. |

MMO budgets are insane dude, companies have spent 200M+ regularly. 25 million might get you something simple but certainly not the WoW clone they were shooting for. If anything even 75M was under budget back then.

I like the part where he thinks people only live in major urban cities. The electricity comment is really stupid, the grid is far more reliable than your average internet provider and that's not taking into account the dozen other variables like their back end and the hardware in between.
I'm far more concerned about their back end than I am mine, time has shown companies do not provision this stuff adequately in the gaming market. My 360 was no stranger to maintenance windows and outages either. It is totally unnecessary for a console to require online functionality when games do not require it, plain and simple. All it can do is introduce problems into the equation, there is no upside.
"Deal with it"
No, I'll deal with another company and encourage everyone I know to do the same. Microsoft is moronic if they think this approach to CS and PR is the right way to treat people. You can keep your Halo and Forza franchises, it's about all that's left anyway.
