I've haven't gotten around to watching Firefly (it's in the Netflix queue), and frankly at this point there is no way it can live up to the hype so many people have given it. Which only increases my hesitation to watch it.

It has some issues but overall it's a pretty charming and engaging SF/western hybrid. Tune out the hype and just enjoy it.

Ah no. Borderlands is their flagship franchise, like Elder Scrolls/Fallout engine is what makes Bethesda. If everything else fails, they live on easily due to that.

Yeah, I'm personally tiring of Borderlands since it doesn't seem to evolve much but I know the gameplay formula resonates well with a lot of other people. I wish Gearbox would revisit Brothers in Arms or something else instead of taking on all of these problematic games from other companies.

Really Verno? I didn't compare it, I used it as a reference to what's happens in the gaming industry as a whole. Learn to know the difference to a comparison and a reference.

Quibbling about the language is really childish and petty, the point stands regardless. Sure this stuff happens in the industry but your "reference" of Bioshock is invalid as it pertains to this situation.

And yes for the record, I have seen people bitch about that too anyway

The only good thing about this is that the next studio will think twice before showing ice cream through the glass and then putting shit on the cone. Money spent on this bs is better spent on the game.

Agreed, if nothing else studios might be a bit more careful with their pre-release marketing bonanzas.

Take the new Bioshock infinity for example. The removed something like 2 games worth of levels from the game. I don't hear anyone bitching about that.

Sure, that game was good. Also the stuff they showed was on the same level as what was in game, it wasn't a drastic product quality difference.

I don't think the lawsuit will go anywhere but to say that it compares to Bioshock Infinite seems silly.

The Raspberry Pi port of XBMC is still under heavy dev and you're limited to the most basic skin of XBMC if you do use it. Also if you're looking for an appliance style port of XBMC, check out OpenElec, it's XBMC made to run like a STB and you can run it off a flash drive.

I recommend people get something like a $100-200 STB style HTPC from Foxconn or Zotac. Anything Fusion based like the aforementioned E350 will be more than enough to do 1080p without any dropped frames. Arctic Cooling also makes a passively cooled Atom based one that would be fine for locally played content. Don't expect to much gaming beyond PS1 era emulation and basic Steam games off either platform though. Also pegging the CPU in gaming will make the Fusion based boxes quite loud, though in video playback they are whisper silent. The Intel NUCs would be compelling if the prices and features weren't such a ripoff. No included IR, high cost despite needing ram+ssd, etc. I'm waiting for a refresh and price drop on these but if those arrive then they could be the ultimate little HTPC boxes - great form factor and very powerful.

I keep dreaming of the all in one HTPC/STB dream box that can play Netflix, do Blurays and have a great interface for local content but there's always some weird issue or compatibility problem. I settled on an HTPC running XBMC for MKV/emulators/Steam and a PS3 for Bluray/DVD, tied it all together with a Harmony.

After how launch went for the PS3/360 last time, I'm not going to get all worked up. Particularly when the 360 had some exclusives which quickly dwindled down to 2-3 franchises over the years.

Southpark is one of those things it's easy to find amusing then grating after awhile. Always best enjoyed in small stints. The game looks awesome though so I hope it sees the light of day.

I picked up my 3DSXL from Walmart a few months back, when Castlevania came out, for $30 off, so it doesn't sound so clear cut as Nintendo saying 'no'... And I see the price back up at $200, so it wasn't a price drop (across the board).

I'm assuming Amazon wanted to do some sort of specific promotion with Nintendo and Nintendo's response wasn't what they desired. I got my 3DS XL for like $150 at Target so I wonder if Amazon wanted some free pack-ins or something to entice people and Nintendo got surly. We'll probably never know but it's bizarre to see Amazon take such a stance.

Yeah, that reeks of some big-time arrogance there. I'm stunned that Amazon would actively link a competitor's product rather than the one you were looking at. They must be really pissed at Nintendo.

Yeah I was surprised. I was trying to get back to the same page so I could screen shot it for you but stumbled onto some dude at Kotaku who did an article about it and saved me the trouble.

Apparently they're doing it with the Wii U as well. Nintendo must have really pissed in Amazons cornflakes, they usually do not do stuff like that.

Well, as I said, I built a queue of 107 movies I wanted to see -- all available on DVD, and seven were available via streaming. Is 107 enough for a "good queue"?

My current queue is 156 (movies and tv shows) with another 54 in the "to be released" section. Unfortunately, since I don't have streaming turned on, I'd have to go through them individually to determine how many are available for streaming.

No clue, I guess we just have radically different taste, there is very little I can't get on streaming when I actively search for it. I'm considering a streaming only sub in the future since we don't really get the dvds very often anymore.

V, I hear that Amazon wanted to discount the prices of nintendo hardware by 10 bucks or so and Nintendo said "no." Amazon already does this with the Sony and MS consoles and it seems to benefit all concerned. Ultimately Nintendo is shooting itself in the foot when they do things like this because the demand for their current products isn't that great to warrant price-fixing (which is essentially what Nintendo is doing).

Interesting, I didn't know the origin of the dispute but I knew something weird was going on. I went to get a 3DS XL from Amazon last month and they tried to steer me toward a Vita with a little pop up saying "You might want to consider this portable console instead". That's highly irregular of Amazon to do but I just moved onto the selection page. Then I also noticed Amazon isn't selling the 3DS or XL directly anymore, they're just letting third parties do it who are of course marking up.

Anyway Nintendo has always been arrogant and they can't keep getting away with that in their newfound underdog role. You can't piss off the second largest potential source of sales for your systems/titles and the worlds largest publisher at the same time.

I don't expect them to have everything either. But if the best they can do is 6% of what I'm interested in seeing, than streaming isn't viable. Not for me anyway...

You must have some pretty eclectic taste for the massive streaming database to only have 6% of what you want to see Most of the time I've found that people give up on streaming without going through the recommendations and then customizing further with the Instant Queue feature. I think their problem is presentation more than availability, I thought streaming sucked until I sat down for an hour and built up a good queue which then further recommended stuff.

Of course if you want stuff the day it airs on TV then you'll have to put up with Hulu, its silly model/restrictions and ads.

I find XBMC + Usenet to be better than any official solution but I do use Netflix constantly to supplement it.

Nintendo really needs to repair its relationship with EA, they went from being all gungho Wii U previously to total disinterest. As much as I dislike EA, their sports titles are almost essential to console longevity. Nintendo has a similar beef going with Amazon and it's hurting 3DS sales as well.

Most of these content holders don't get it. People aren't going to seek their content individually at studioname.com, they want it all in one place which is what makes Netflix streaming so attractive.

I agree with JD, I don't expect Netflix streaming to have every single title out there but they have most bases covered and more than enough content to last a lifetime. It's a no brainer bargain, particularly once you develop your Instant Queue a bit.

I think some people are just tiring of 2D based games with sprite based characters and/or simplistic textures and models. It doesn't bother me personally but I've seen a lot of similar complaints on forums and I think it's just a condition of how far developed that side of the industry has become that it's raised expectations.

As for Phil Fish and Fez, I'm torn because I like good games but it's hard to knowingly support such a tremendous douchebag who has basically spit on my favorite platform. On the flipside I guess most companies have a few of them so *shrug*

Best to watch the gameplay videos of it to answer that question. I don't know how accurate my explanation would be, as I don't really dive into the intricacies of Sim building games.

With that said Anno games to me seem to thrive on efficient placement of resource buildings that ultimately means separating all resource and building types, thus not having an intermixed city at all. So as someone said, you are building an empire, not a city. The island maps of Anno lends itself to this design, and it's not necessarily a bad thing. It's just different. It's not totally like the Caesar games, maybe just moreso with the focus on building the Trade empire, and later on in the game the bit of RTS combat that came into play. There are just more similarities to Caesar, than say SimCity.

Anno 2070 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYFLhADYd3k

Hmm ok, it sounds interesting and I'm watching the video now, I'll probably pick it up, thanks man!
