I wouldn't recommend Divinity II. While not bad per se, it is fairly repetitive and uninspired. Dungeons are the worst kind of awful, the castle attack missions are tedious after the first, and combat is very bland. The game lacks the charm of its predecessor and instead charts a course for the mainstream.

Beyond Divinity is an atrocious game best forgotten.

Beyond Divinity almost made me give up on the series, its dreck.

As derivative as this game looks to be I am still interested, it looks like they really embraced the setting.

This image comes to mind.

Almost every single Xbox One game I've seen exhibits really annoying screen tearing, framerate problems or some other deficiency. Whether the average joe notices or not is too subjective to say but the negative PR is certainly hurting them and this is not the way to combat that. He should be pushing whatever unique games they can bring to the table like Nintendo does, not admitting that there is a gap and essentially challenging people to see it which is bad PR that focuses on the problem instead of trying to get people beyond it.

If you consider having to reload and pause constantly due to enemies parachuting in waves from offscreen then sure, it was pretty 'tactical'. Having to the pause the game by itself does not a tactics game make.

This. DA2 was not very tactical, it mostly consisted of saving your CC and harder hitting abilities for fresh waves of reinforcements.

I think Microsoft gets very little benefit from the Xbox brand but it is really the only one with any consumer uptake so they're going to hang onto that for dear life.

They are just incredibly short sighted with it and it is both a vision and attitude problem from the top down. Every chance they get is the path of least resistance to profit, not realizing that sometimes long term benefits mean short term sacrifice. It permeates every aspect of that division and you can see it in everything. Hell they still won't release indies from the "release parity" clause all these months later despite a ton of negative press and countless bitching. Any time they could give more value for the service they've instead gone the opposite route and tried to grind peoples wallets into dust.

Spencer made a few concessions recently like the Live paywall but really that was just because Sony was fucking destroying them, the latest numbers that some people were tossing around on gamasutra put the PS4 at 9.4mil and the Xbox at under 4. That is something they have to start to address and you don't do that by "lookie we're the same as Sony now!".

Microsoft as a company needs to get out of the weird cult society that their campus represents, they are out of touch with consumers in so many ways.

Some of you guys are dumping all over this game because its EA and because the prior DA 2 failed badly.

I'm sure some people are, ignoring that sort of history and just buying blindly into marketing would be kind of silly. I think it would be kind of bizarre if people weren't reluctant after how badly flubbed DA2 was. This also isn't exactly a return to DA1 either so its hard to base it around that.

Too many unknowns, I've seen some some stuff that impresses me (Frostbite more than anything else) and other stuff that makes me dubious but I'll just wait for reviews. No reason to preorder or anything, time has shown the bonuses to be of questionable value and its not like they will run out of stock.

yes people trying to make money to feed their families and be a profitable company is total and complete bullshit! how dare anyone offer some cool stuff to encourage gamers to pre order and get some money into the developers pocket.

Publishers pocket you mean and less than 2 years after Sega shipped one of the shoddiest products I've had the misfortune of playing. People are understandably dubious about preorder DLC on anything Sega right now, have a sense of context man.

I try not to be petty about these things because a fun game is awesome no matter who makes it but he was a pretty ridiculous asshat to PC gamers over the years. Free or not there are so many ways to spend leisure time these days, he is going to have to do better in the PR department if he wants people interested.

He joked on Twitter the other day that he should totally hire Phil Fish to run PR for him. I would personally love that, just to watch the incredible train wreck that would ensue.

CliffyB + Phil Fish + DEREK SMART get together to make a F2P Mario Allstars clone.

I would totally play it.

It feels like a 1/4 of a review. The intro sentence is about multiplayer, I mean no preamble or background? Other parts are seemingly taken from PR blurbs.

Anyhow, I don't get a strong feeling of a "party based tactical RPG" from this spammy combat. It's almost like you're playing solo, and suddenly your party just appears out of nowhere and starts throwing their shit around.

Yeah it hard to tell because they don't really pan around behind the player much but it seems like your party isn't even visible until you engage in combat. I certainly hope that isn't the case but often with these things its more about what they aren't showing you. The combat seemed really spammy and uncoordinated too. At least they let you equip people with armor this time haha.

George R.R. Martin says 'f*ck you' to anyone who thinks he'll die before finishing 'Game of Thrones' series.

People say f*ck you to George Martin for wanking 5+ years per book.

Nothing heartless about it, DC Comics will now have to decide whether or not something is "worthy" of this based on social media outrage which isn't fair to anyone. Imagine being the dying cancer kid who gets told "nope sorry, your life sucks but you're not as deserving as the other kid". Jeffrey Baldwin died in 2002, let his memory be an anti-abuse law or something constructive instead of people crowdfunding a bronze statue.

The Shack remodel looks alright I guess.

DC Comics Reverses Decision, Will Let Murdered 5-Year-Old Be Superman.

Seems pretty dumb. Now they will be asked to use it on every sob story. The kid died a tragic death long ago, let his legacy be a law or some sort of preventative measure instead of a superman logo on a bronze statue.

It's not even the messaging so much as it is Microsoft simply isn't making a real commitment to it. They've been doing PR crap with it for awhile which is great for the bigger name indies who actually get devkits from them but bad for everyone else who has been getting the runaround. Sony on the other hand are doing subsidized dev kits, personal reps assigned to indies, great documentation and almost immediate access to DevNet and so on. They are actually trying to foster a community instead of just "oh look we're gonna have Transistor too!".

Looks like they might have played a bit of Skyrim! Haha holy shit that is some heavy imitation is the sincerest form of flattery stuff going on. The Dragon battle at least seemed more involved than that though.

Waiting for many reviews on this. They showed a bunch of things for DA2 that looked neat but turned out to be threadbare at best. Also when I hear PR wankery about "dynamic animal populations" and stuff I know I'm being BS'd.

UPDATE: Microsoft denies nixing Xbox One dev kit plans.

More 180s hooray. They have been doing the whole ID@Xbox thing all wrong anyway, trying to cherrypick "name" indies for press releases instead of actually developing an indie community which is what Sony has been fostering. There is a lot of grumbling about lack of info, no communication, shitty policies and other issues with ID.
