10 Things You Need To Know About The #GamerGate Scandal

"Articles everywhere have sprung up overnight claiming that ‘gamers are dead’, or ‘gamers are killing gamers’. Chances are you’ve seen one of these articles with whatever sensationalist title they’ve used to draw you in, but why are people saying this? What does #GamerGate mean?

Well, to put it simply, the general gaming public are concerned with the quality and integrity of video game journalism. Much evidence has surfaced over the past few weeks that exposes many gaming journalists have personal ties with the people they sponsor and write about. Type in #gamergate on any social media site (Twitter and Tumblr being the most bountiful) to be flourished with a wave of evidence supporting this.

And how have the journalists over at Kotaku and Polygon and the like reacted to this? With interesting and critical analysis of their own practices and methods? No. Fact-checking all the sides of the debate before coming to a reasonable and logical conclusion? No – just pointing fingers at gamers and saying that they are to blame. With this barrage of accusations from journalists and their followers, it can be pretty difficult to find out what GamerGate is truly about.

This article should help clear things up."

The public beating K took here last night was rather humorous to watch...

They should have an Atari 2600 hooked up to an old TV that you can play the original on.

Now that would be scary.

I played the shit out of that one...

Oh wait FreeLancer ....shit he has done EXACTLY that before.

HAHAHA HOOKERS AND YAUGHTS I CALLED IT!!!

Freelancer was a great game, and reviews back that up.

You might want to rethink your strategy...

Yeah, the irony there was certainly interesting...

This is a big one. Christina Sommers, one of the big names of the feminist movement, tweeted this:

"It is clear that gamers are being bullied by opportunistic,evidence-free gender warriors. But who are the enablers?Game companies? Bloggers?"

This only shows the wide rift between real feminists/humanitarians and SJWs.

Finally, some common sense.

If Take Two told EA to fuck off, what makes you think Activision/Blizzard is in any way going to be able to buy them?

Not to mention Rockstar would become like Infinity Ward, leave and make a new company.

But if there is any truth to this, gamer's are fucked.

As a hardcore R* fan, it's incredibly scary...

Everything that was right about Diablo II is wrong with III. Probably the most disappointing game for me in a long time. Did not even bother buying the expansion. I fooled around with this new patch for an hour or so, I don't even know why they bothered, if fixes NOTHING!

Oh my goodness, internet rage!

Several games showed up yesterday (you guys rock). I'm pretty sure it's working right... maybe it would be better for people's privacy if you want to ask if a specific item showed up, rather than me keep listing everything? Of course email is fine if your own privacy is a concern.

I snagged Metro (ps4) Thursday night and it showed up in the mail today...

Glad it's working!

So a treadmill game (which I'll admit, I'm playing) wants folks to restart on the treadmill, and then someone kinda cheats and hooks the front tire up on the treadmill and makes it go really fast, and everyone gets upset? "That guy didn't suffer like the rest of us!"

Another day at Blizzard...

She is nothing like Jack Thompson.
Thompson tried to sue game makers over school shootings. He tried to sue retailers for carrying violent games. He filed a suit against Sony for allowing certain games on their systems.
I have never heard Sarkeesian advocate censorship or legal involvement. I've never heard her blame a school shooting or any other violence on video games.

They're both looking for easy, quick promotion for themselves.

She isnt important. Its not about her. Its about the role of women in video games and the video game industry.

Oh, it's totally about her. She's detrimental to the cause she champions. It's all about money, either through a kickstarter, or encouraging folks to make monthly donations to her cause, so she can skate by while stating the same things others have said before.

So enlighten us then: how do you properly champion the cause of feminism?

I'm not championing anything. I just stated I think she loves (at least before the death threats) the attention it gives her, and that she chooses video games not because she cares about them, but because they're an easy target.

I didn't say you were. Your claim is she harms her own cause. So how would you do it then, if not through active criticism and calling out of the issue?

Let's say for the sake of argument she's not a 'real gamer' or whatever. What if a 'true' woman gamer came out and said "sexism in video games is bullshit?" Who decides the criteria of real gamerdom? Must it be so tied to one's core identity that any criticism is personally threatening?

Again, I'm not playing your game for you. I'm pointing out what a charlatan she is.
