Curious as to how they enforce this,

It's a simple flag in HDCP. In any case, both Sony and Samsung, and anyone else who thinks we need another format war, can go fuck themselves. I already had roughly 0.000001% interest in buying a 4K tv, and now that has gone to actually negative numbers.

I'll just keep ripping discs...

Yeah, kind of ironic. Couldn't sell them the first time, but all these years later...

So...this just came to me.....I have done no less than 50 foot chase scenarios with NPCs....and every single time it is in a damn near straight line, doesn't do much but maybe jump over a trash can....maybe look back and shoot at me. Never once have I had to go down stairs, up stairs, climb buildings, etc. And that was all shown in one of those first videos.....wtf happened? Most of this stuff in the video is trivial at best! How do they not have those final touches with all of the delays?

I assume the delays were for all the side crap - that is very poorly exectuted. I went 20 rounds in the VR shooting game, and that was 19 rounds to much. Some dude went 130+ rounds in that! (per scoreboard) It is boring as hell!

Just watched the TotalBiscuit WTF Is video, and he chases a guy over fences and shit...

OK, one additional stupid question: Is there eventually going to be more SP, or is MP the primary focus of the game? I just assumed there would be a (strong) SP portion as well (though I totally understand if it's not ready yet).

Thanks again!

Lots to learn when it comes to combat and overall ship controls.
Tim here in this video is a very decent pilot and he is getting his ass kicked in MP atm.
Have a look

For anyone that is curious the beta is amazing, so is the X-55 Rhino from Saitek, my flight skills however need a lot of work.
Managed to blow up a few times during landing, I don't even have a chance against other human players atm.
Need to put more time into learning the controls and master them.
Good thing is other players get no bounty for killing other players unless they are pirates with bounty on their head.
So PvE is much better time investment than PvP unless you are bounty hunting and looking for player pirates.

So far so good though, I am looking forward to see all the new stuff they are bringing to this beta in the coming weeks.
until then I have my work cut out for me and have to learn how to fly properly

Last questions before I pull the trigger:

How much SP content appears to be in this latest version? Are there missions and such, or is it just flying around and landing?

How does patching work? Do they have their own client, or are you downloading each version or what?

Thanks man!

Would it be too much to ask that you call out GLU Mobile as the responsible party for Gamespy's shutdown? Gamespy was working until GLU Mobile bought Gamespy, and then GLU Mobile [bhose[/b] to shut down all of the Gamespy servers. It's not Gamespy that's at fault, it's Gamespy's owners. Point that out a few times to help shame them.

Many articles have omitted that, but I don't think it's fair to act like there's a distance. When Bullfrog|Origin|Pandemic Studios(*) closed down, or Psygnosis closed down, did news reports just say "Bullfrog|Origin|Pandemic|Psygnosis" closed down? Or did they say "EA|Sony|Other Publisher closed studio X today." That's the cause of events and should be reported so that the parent's responsibility is called out.

There's official word from GLU Mobile over on Gamasutra as to why they shut things down -- "not a viable business model"

* And yes, I was an employee of Pandemic Studios from August 1998 thru November 13, 2009 when I left voluntarily. EA bought Pandemic in 2008, and shut down Pandemic in November 2009.

Do I really need to spell out that I'm not talking about a handful of rabid space game fanboys who'll give their eye teeth for a space game, but the vast majority of "normal" people. I don't know if you guys are multi-millionaires or live at home with your parents but for most of us with real life commitments and debts, then yes $150+ for a game is completely fucking absurd. As was discussed last night, even $60 is considered too much by most these days. Most people aren't even looking at games until they're hitting $30 and under.

How much are golf clubs? Or Skydiving? Or a swimming pool? Or a record collection? Or a hunting rifle? Or any other hobbies that people spend money on? More than $150, I bet.

Gaming is a hobby like anything else.

Hang on, did he just say that my 760GTX with 4GB of VRAM is inadequate to run this game??

Yeah, there was a lot of feet being stuff in a mouth there, huh?

edit: I should say I don't doubt getting it running on a number of platforms was an "incredibly complex task". But the wording here (you don't have unified memory, getting it working on consoles AND YOUR PC is really hard on us!) makes the pc sound like a bit of a stepchild.
