Mmm, fall out from "gamers are dead"? Serves them right.

I don't recall them participating in that, actually. Do you have a link? I didn't think they editorialized much (if at all), they just reported news.

Okay, so I actually finished Episode 1 and it's pretty shor.
Steam says I've played for 7 hours but I think I've idled for 3 of those.

It was a beautiful experience. Beautiful game.

If they can keep that pace, $20 for 20 hours (even 15) is awesome.

You can experience everything Evolve has to offer offline, playing single player.
Okay, then. You've got a sale. Not out of the gate for $60, but when a GOTY edition ships with all the DLC.

Done in one. Well put!

What's wrong with Hearthstone?

TL;DR: Good game, but unfriendly business model by comparison to other offerings.

Maybe it is just me having come from playing a lot of traditional TCGs and Scrolls, but Hearthstone is a very unfriendly business model by comparison.

It costs you a $1.50 for a booster which contains 5 random cards. The only thing you are guaranteed is 1 Rare and 4 commons which have a trade in value of 40 dust or 1 common card of your choice. Add onto that the fact that they have two extra tiers of rarity, Epic and Legendary, but don't publish the drop rates for these tiers so they can increase or decrease the value of your purchase with you having no knowledge of it.

You can't trade with other players or lend them your decks. There is no benefit to play against friends as quests can only be done against random opponents. Drafts don't award you cards of your choosing, but rather just more dust or random cards. The only way to be guaranteed to get a specific card you want is spend obscene amounts of money and hope you get lucky in generating enough dust to craft the card.

Game play itself is an uncomfortable level of random chance, the last expansion particularly. They are also extremely limiting on how you can earn in-game currency. To the point where it is spend $1.50 for a pack or spend 2 days doing quests.

This is highly subjective, but compared to just about every other Digital CCG out there, I despise Hearthstone's model due to all the points above. Solid presentation, flavor and support, but I could never see spending more than the $3 I've spent on that game whereas I've spent maybe ~$100 on Scrolls which wasn't required but because I wanted preconstructed decks or some cosmetic items without having to spend a day or two farming currency for them.

Based on the time I've played, I feel that's a very accurate critique. It's fun, and I like it, but there's a lot of room for improvement, based on your examples.

So Dying Light is pretty decent. I think it might get old fast, but we'll see.

Even as someone who got tired of Dead Island by the end, I admit the videos do make it look fun. If I wasn't still plowing through the fall releases, I'd have grabbed it. But as it is, I'll grab it in 6 months for half off...

Im more worried about your crazy ass trying to get me to inject 20 different vaccines into my bloodstream on a yearly basis even though it's constantly mutating which means it's next to impossible to ever have enough injections to be protected at all times without constantly looking over your shoulder, that is, looking to the next vaccine.
So, to put this back on topic, as long as Bill Gates isn't the programmer programming the machines of the future, or some crazy ass variant thereof, I won't worry about it too much.

I'll give that a 6/10 on the derail scale.

I think a big worry I have is simply the amount of manual shit that it looks like you have to do. You have a long landing animation. You have to manually walk to a shop to go shopping. You have to manually return your gun to the ship if you are denied admittance. The way things are implemented now, is it immersive? Yes, but it doesn't seem to respect the player's time.

Your description reminds me of the long (empty) hallways in The Old Republic, which were seemingly added just to make the world feel bigger. You did a ton of running there as well...

2. Because it WISE to not hurt your customers. As i remember Adobe once contacted several hundred customers with "counterfeit" serials and offered them legit ones for free. Adobe came out as the good guy, it was perfect PR story, costing them nearly nothing.

This. 100000 times this.

They're not Ubisoft's customers, and they never will be if Ubisoft just give them games every time they buy illegitimate ones. I'm not sure I'd ever be Ubisoft's customer either, if I could pay someone half the amount for some key and get a legit copy of Far Cry 5 if it's ever revoked.

It would be nice if Ubisoft went with a softer approach but IMHO what they're doing now isn't unreasonable and anything more would be a bonus.

It (UBI replacing keys) also starts down the slippery slope of what happens next time. Are they obligated to do it every time, then? Wouldn't that just cause fraudulent keys to flourish?

A general rule in life, and it certainly applies here, is if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
