PS. If you have yet to buy Wolfenstein the New Order, or the Evil Within, due so at the next sale opportunity... both are pretty damned amazing in my opinion.

+1 for wolf. Woot woot!

Yawn. Angry child is angry. Anyway...

If you're referring to post 18, he's spot on about QTEs in general. It's a stupid gimmick, that potentially draws the player out of the game. Or in some cases (Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy) forces you to totally take your eyes off what's happening on the screen to concentrate on random button inputs.

Are you interested in this? No? Didn't think so.

I am, actually. I'm not paying 60 bucks for it, but I'll definitely pick it up when it's 5 bucks, which is now my default Ubisoft price point.

The pirating part of Black Flag was awesome, if a little samey and waaaaay too easy. Hopefully Rogue addresses those two concerns, and I'm looking forward to some different environments rather than the green jungle islands that were all Black Flag had to offer.

Edit: Be warned, all who are interested -> The Assassin’s Creed Rogue PC development team in Kiev

Ubisoft Kiev are the incompetent assclowns who have been butchering Ubi's last several PC ports, so definitely wait this one out until it's had at least four or five patches, which seems to be the bare minimum for them to make shit playable.
I don't know about the PC port, but I enjoyed Rogue on my PS3. Hopefully the port will be decent.

Anyway, Rogue slightly improves on the ship combat. Ships can now board you, but I haven't figured out the mechanics involved. From what I can tell, only Hunters can board you, and only if you actually let them ram you, so it can be somewhat avoided if you don't get too caught up in big battles. If you do get boarded, it's similar to boarding enemy ships in Black Flag, except that you can't use the "Captain's mini-cannon" to take down enough crew to capture the other ship without ever getting into hand combat.

The ship combat itself doesn't seem harder or easier. I had little trouble fighting superior ships with my Black Flag experience. That's not to say that it's easy to take on a man-o-war; that heavy shot still stings like hell.

The biggest change is actually in the "on foot" part, where assassins can now target you. It's an interesting addition to the game, but it isn't a huge change since it only happens occasionally.

The best part of the game is honestly the main character. I found Shay more believable than past protagonists, and this time around most of the targets you assassinate are assholes that deserved it (which is often not the case), with one HUGE exception that you'll probably have mixed feelings about. It was fun to play a Templar for a change, and the modern-day story was slightly less stupid than Black Flag's (which was already a big improvement over the AC1-3 Desmond conspiracy-theory bullshit that a 5th grader could have written). I definitely recommend it.

Good review, thank you!

And while we are on the subject you may want to be careful about throwing around the "following the herd" accusations when someone poses an argument contrary to yours like you dismissively (and rather rudely) did with Redmask when there is no way you can make that case without knowing more about the person. Lest you be forced to accept that Sarkeesian has done nothing but tailor the modern feminist talking points to apply specifically to games anyway. Just because my beliefs very occasionally line up with those of conservative nutjobs on the radio doesn't make me a "ditto-head".

Prez, the best thing you can do is ignore these people and don't engage them. They just want to eat, and if not fed, they'll go elsewhere.

I've been using the Amazon link from Blue's for purchases lately. I just have no idea whether it's actually doing anything or not. What if I have some items in my cart already? Would be nice to have some indication when finalizing the purchase that the referral is noted.

I use the shit out of it, and yeah, it would be nice for some sort of notice on amazon's end.

<drool!>

The reason is because first we didn't want to do it until [Pillars of Eternity] came out. The second thing is that the Kickstarter stuff is kind of up and down here and there. But the Shadowrun guys look like they're pretty successful, they're like one and a half or two million. I know if we put exploding kittens in it we could make billions.

I'd give them (Obsidian) more money in a heartbeat.

Conan had Beast Mode and Gronk play this on Clueless Gamer, it looked pretty sharp. Gruesome finishing moves though, and they made Beast Mode almost walk out.

I admit I didn't have a lot of interest in it until I watched their video. Though I still prefer the more 2d/sprite/animated style of the earlier games to the current dark and gritty look.

I especially laughed at the "And all signs are extraordinarily positive,” as I've seen very little positive word of mouth about the game at all.

AAhhhh there it is. I was wondering when this was coming, since SteamOS (or any other Linux variant) can't possibly compete with Windows without a platform independent graphics API to rival DirectX. Still I wonder what it will take to convince developers to program games with an alternative API (and hardware manfacturers to support it)? We all know what happened with OpenGL, most developers left it in the dust. It was simpy not cost effective to develop for two APIs. Will definitely be following this with interest.

I hope you understand that Valve isn't speaking of anything "new" here..;) Valve is talking about OpenGL:

https://www.khronos.org/opengl/

I assumed glNext isn't just a new version of OpenGL, but a new API with people behind it that can get things done using OpenGL has a starting point. Perhaps not, perhaps it's (lack of) business as usual.

They're bringing back glide!!!!!!!!!
