Hmmm, didn't get a key. Must have stuffed up the sign up process somehow.

Wanted to get a taste before plonking down the pre-order, guess I'll wait for post launch feedback now.

At least EA knows how to send me keys! Battlefield Hardon looks alright from what I've seen so far.

Someone was claiming elsewhere that you needed to make sure your sony email address was verified. No idea if that was the case or not...finally got mine last night.

And all of that is exactly why, when I hear this song and dance of "Dragon Age 3 will be better, we swear", I'm instantly skeptical...

I don't know how anyone can trust EA at this point...who are these people who preorder and think "it'll be better this time!"?

OK, Battlefield Hardlines. Got into the beta today. Played a couple of maps.

Yeah. I LOVE the Battlefield series. Absolutely my favorite multiplayer shooters ever.

This game SUCKS. It feels like a cheap mod to Battlefield. The guns, models, hell pretty much every element of the map feels cheap. They somehow managed to mess up the feel of the guns along with the looks. I can't believe they want to charge $60 for this. Ugh.

I've heard a lot of folks say they think it should have been a mod. Not a good first impression...

Please don't push that absolutely vile Rockstar Social Club bullshit on us this time.. It's done so much damage already, with GTA 4 and Max Payne 3. :/

It wasn't required on the consoles, but it was extremely handy in tracking missions and showing what neat stuff you'd not found yet, including where they were on the map...

You also got free singleplayer garages, and access to extra cars (The GTR equivalent, elegy RH8) for signing up for Rockstar Social... I know my singleplayer garages are packed with high $$$ rides. Well, multiplayer too (adder... entity xf... comet.... and another 6... god it's all so purdy)

I won't refute that it tracks everything and puts all kinds of info at easy access, but the DRM itself was terrible. It locked a lot of people out of Max Payne 3 (PC) for over a month before they decided to fix it, for example. Had issues with it in multiplayer, as well, because fuck it.. why not have 3 DRM mechanics on top of eachother? (GFWL + R* Social Club + Steam) -- Hopefully the loss of GFWL will alleviate some of those issues, but Social Club left a bad taste in my mouth.

Well, I'll put it this way: There's nothing Social Club showed you that you couldn't find in the menus (stats) or on any guide/walkthough online.

I liked it, but I can totally understand your position, and would prefer it be optional for everyone.

It would still require a login for amazon payments, but yeah, Kickstarter really should do a better job of not having credentials apparently embedded in their links...

Almost to New Game + mode!

I'd tell you to jump on that deal...except there's no jump option in Thief.

So...

Pop in was evident, especially on a certain mission where you had to fly a plane low to the ground near the lake, and this one giant tree would pop in half a second in front of you, causing the plane to blow up (holy shit that one was frustrating).

GGGNNNNNGGGHHHHHHH!!!!! THAT FUCKING TREE!!!

I hit it the first time and had no idea what happened. Did I just not see it? WTF?

The second time I flew to the exact same spot and, eyes wide, so as not to blink, it teleported in right in front of me - "AH-HA MOTHERFUCKER! I SAW THAT!!!!!!"

edit: I think there were even reddit posts titled "That tree" or the like, and you knew exactly what it was before reading it. It was that bad...

Itís kind of odd that they are not offering any of the Advanced Pre orders on Steam for this yet, but they are offering a pre-sale on other sites. At least I thought they were offering pre purchase on other sites. Maybe Iím wrong. Weird!

I've seen steam do that with other games when they're first put up. They add the details later (system requirements are also missing currently).

In case anyone didn't notice
nin=GTA addict!

I totally dig open world simulation, be it GTA, WOW, etc...the level of detail is getting really impressive (watching the cross walk signs actually change in 4/5), and while eventually development times will get insane (if they're not already, based on how long 5 took) I look forward to even more detail in the future.

I just find it fascinating to watch, and even more amazing to take part. Even though I know a lot of it is simplified/designed to fool the player, watching the clouds go by, the people on the street, that moron in traffic having a wreck, it's all just breathtaking.

(edit: Just off the top of my head:)

I thought it was a fantastic game (I originally considered 4 to be the best of the series, and now consider 5 to be better than 4), but you could tell they were doing every trick in the book to get it running reasonably on 512 meg of ram.

  • Traffic on the highways was light. This was actually beneficial to get away from the cops.

  • Sometimes, if I really really got to going fast down a city street, the game would pause for a second or so as it struggled to load stuff around me.

  • Pop in was evident, especially on a certain mission where you had to fly a plane low to the ground near the lake, and this one giant tree would pop in half a second in front of you, causing the plane to blow up (holy shit that one was frustrating).

  • Flying in the city would also produce pop in/changing of textures, as you got closer. Most of the time you didn't notice this, as it was on the edges of the screen while you concentrated on the plane/chopper in the center.

  • The frame rate, while not horrible (*my opinion), was low, I'm guessing in the 20s.

  • All Most of these issues (maybe not the second to last one) can be fixed with a better video card and 16 times the memory.

That, and after spending 111+ hours the first time through (granted, chasing achievements/surprises/100% completion), I'm dying for a replay, and can't wait to see how it'll look.

If they're migrating some games to steam, while leaving others (say DR2: OTR that I own) with GFMFWL, I'm not sure why I should give them more money.
