My memory is a bit foggy, so I researched it to make sure... and PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong... but...

Um... this is entirely incorrect. Forgotten Realms is a term for campaigns that take place on Abeir-Toril. Ravenloft takes place in an alternate dimension. Krynn is the Dragonlance world, the main contemporary fantasy/D&D world that gamers played in instead of Forgotten Realms. And Dark Sun takes place in the world of Athas.

Forgotten Realms is a specific campaign setting, not an all-encompassing umbrella term under which these worlds exist.

Whoever wrote this obviously wasn't even the tiniest bit familiar with what they were talking about, and that's a bit disheartening.

Well, they say "in the realms of Krynn, Dark Sun, and Ravenlof" (emphasis mine), and then call Ravenloft "A gothic-noir universe".

Fun game I never completed...some of the best atmosphere I've seen in a game, relating to the level design and how it mimicked the first movie.

Also scary as hell, if you're an alien fan.

The last one came out 13 Oct, 2015 and they charge 27.99 CND for the game.

So now they release part 2, less then 3 weeks after the first one, also charging 27.99.

This whole 5 part series would run a guy about $150.00, and the reviews are bad.

What a load of horse shit.

Incorrect, you're buying the series, just like with other telltale games.

Look at literature as an example, you don't see people bending over backwards to write sequels to the great novels of the time, well to be honest you do. But how many of them ever capture the feeling of the original(s)?

But we hold the works of Shakespeare and Hemingway as classics, compared to JK or whatshername from Twilight. Why is that? We've been telling stories since we could draw, but there's always the mindset of "things aren't as great as they used to be - you kinds these days, your media SUCKS!". If you or I, not being around in Shakespeare's time, read his works today, do they really blow our socks off? Or do we share something with those younger than us and tend to roll our eyes?

I'm not saying I don't at least partially agree with you, but I also think we're of the old cranky fuck generation, and kids these days just don't understand...

(Not trying to change your mind in any way. But I do feel like our previous experiences and perspective pepper our opinion towards new things, sometimes to the point of being detrimental. We long for our glory days, when things genuinely impressed us, not realizing that even if something doesn't impress us, it doesn't mean it won't leaving a lasting impression on someone else.)

Why the mixed feelings you ask? Because like every single film that has ever grown into a franchise property, this will all turn to shit. The new film might even capture some of that 'space opera' feel, but it will never live up the original trilogy.

It's all about managed expectations. If you go in expecting the world, you're going to be disappointed. And the reality is (and I'm just as guilty as anyone else), when you say you "grew up with these movies, and loved them as much as the next kid" and that a franchise "will all turn to shit"...that's rose colored glasses talking. In our minds, we hold those "classics" to such high regard, that there's no way anything new or different will meet our expectations.

And just for fun ( ), when you say "Vader is the greatest Sci-Fi film villain of all time", let's recap his career:

  • His minons he's leading lose the plans to the deathstar.

  • He meets his own daughter, but somehow doesn't have the force sense to realize it.

  • He fails to defend the Death Star. It explodes. Whoops! His own son did it - how do you explain that to your boss? "Yo emp, kids these days, you know? No respect! I'll pay for that - where's the payroll deduction form?"

  • He tries to convert his own son, who decides he'd rather kill himself than hang out with him. (That right there should be a good indicator of needing to examine your life choices.)

  • His own son bests him in battle, he fails to defend the second death star, and it's also destroyed.

  • I mean really, is that an outstanding career? That's borderline "You next job is managing the Space MCDonalds".

Star Wars: The Original Trilogy - The Force Awakens Mashup. Thanks JDreyer.

Both (ANH and TFA) appear to very much have a "passing the torch" vibe, in a good way. Just as Luke learns of the force, his history and connection to it, and what it means for the future, I suspect Episode 7 to have the same vibe, with the younger cast, and the older cast taking a step back from center frame (and perhaps eventually disappearing entirely).

And I'm ok with that, finally. I think if you truly love something, you have to accept that things will change, and that the future will be different than what you might adore right now. Clone Wars (to a lesser extent) and now Rebels has shown that just because it's New Star Wars, doesn't mean it's Bad Star Wars (despite getting off on the wrong foot with Episode 1).

Did I mention everyone needs to watch "The People vs George Lucas" on netflix today?

The biggest issue with Steam is all the CRAP on it. Don't get me wrong I'm happy for the Indie scene, but the amount of shit on Steam that is 2d phone shovelware is insane.

Another complaint I've never understood. Do you also go to music stores and complain about them carrying country/rap music? Or go to a public library and lament the amount of pulp romance books? Never once have I gone to a store and thought, "Wow this place would be a lot better if it only carried things I'm personally interested in."

But (IMO) steam isn't organized like those. You go to the front page, and all kinds of shit is plastered there. And their search isn't as robust, either, bringing back hundreds of hits in some cases, for different genres.

A search at amazon or the library would produce much more focused results.
