I like Netflix and Amazon Instant Video, but I know that they could drop Star Trek The Next Generation at any time. For a fan, the smart choice is to own the show. The same is true of music.

Exactly!

Apple Music and the terrible return of DRM.

Don't have a lot of pity for folks that rely on streaming and then complain about another service. If you like it, own it, with the expectation that you're responsible for it's future. Services will come and go, but something you bought and future proofed * (as much as you can) can last decades.

* Currently in the process of wav, flacing, and mp3ing every disc I own, trying to beat the clock before cd drives go away.

My father-in-law was in the Korean war and as a general rule would not watch or read ANYTHING related to war. This was his decision apparently most of his life (he's in his early 80's). I asked him, just out of curiosity, if he would maybe consider watching 'Band of Brothers'. At first he said, "No, I don't think so", then after I told him that it was respectfully done and brutally honest in it's portrayal of WW2 in Europe, he said ok. His wife said he watched the entire series in just a few nights with her and was glued to the TV. She said he really appreciated the interviews with some of the real guys that were actually there and lived through that Hell.

That's very cool to hear! Great that he was able to enjoy it w/o it being overly painful to watch.

I liked the Pacific series. Maybe not as much as Band of Brothers but it is certainly one of the best mini-series out there and bonus points on being on the Pacific theatre which often feels buried by the European theatre.

I need to watch that one again. I've only seen it once, but at the time, I remember thinking it seemed overly gory compared to Band of Brothers (legal disclaimer: yes, it's war, and people can do very savage things to each other). And I agree, it seems like the pacific isn't talked about nearly as much as europe.

edit: I see both Band and The Pacific are $21.99 each on amazon right now. Use that Amazon link on the front page!

Between that and the internet cafe deaths (where someone plays for 70+ hours non stop and drops dead) that part of the world is the epitome of go big or go home. That's just crazy...

Sad to see Lego Worlds is single player only for now. Sad that the last TT Lego game to have multiplayer online was Lego Star Wars.

I'm really hoping that one turns out well. Would have jumped on it, but want to see more concrete plans of what the future brings.

It's de rigueur to watch Saving Private Ryan around this time, and that's a great movie, but if you're hankering for an alternative "D-Day" movie, I suggest Edge of Tomorrow, one of the best sci fi action flicks of the past few years.

Band Of Brothers is also fantastic.

I only use the XBOX console controller for action games so I wonder how the Steam controller stacks up against it?

Based on the trackpads for both thumbs, there's going to be a learning curve no matter what you're used to.

(Having said that, I still think it looks awesome.)

If Google hadn't been such jerks about shoving Google+ down everyone's throats, maybe it would've seen better adoption. I hardly bothered with it mainly because of how annoying they were about trying to force people to use it.

That's my experience as well.

I look forward to the newest revision of the "We are dedicated to PC Gaming" flowchart.

To their credit I suppose what they are trying to do with Win10 looks a lot better than GFWL ever did.

Having a nail pounded through your dick would look a lot better than GFWL...

Might even be more functional!!!

People often believe that the artistry of a game boils down to the amount of money spent on it...nothing could be further from true...;)

It's also important not to put words in other peoples mouths, or twist what they said.

I've not powered mine on since maybe the beginning of the year. Might see what I can get for trade in...I see best buy is supposed to still be offering the trade in towards an xbone...feel kinda dirty going back to them, though.

*Shrugs* I don't know - for me the excitement isn't totally there for slightly different reasons (like it not being Isometric), but everyone has there own take on FO now (for me the series peaked in 1998/2001). I'm surprised there is already a pre-order up.

(Perhaps overly optimistic) Rumor is this fall. I was surprised by the preorder as well, as I expected the game next year (still am, actually).

Guess we'll see in a couple of weeks.

Basketball really does not translate well to a computer game.

I know, right? It's so hard to play with a keyboard. If only there was some sort of alternate input, maybe even with analogue control, that would make it easier!

Fuck!

Graphically, this looks better than Fallout 4 ever will. Kickstarter funded, from an Indie developer, made for PCs, and not made for consoles. Maybe I should spend more than 20 bucks on this....

It almost looks too good to the point that I worry about their budget supporting it. Of course, we don't know how much of their own money they're bringing to the table. But I feel pretty confident (based on the videos with the kid, and Fargo's comments) it doesn't feature outside funding.

But hey, I'm along for the ride. I keep seeing stuff like this (specifically gameplay/combat mechanic examples) and the pledge will go up as well.

I play a variation of that called "Screwdriver, Screwdriver, Screwdriver, Floor".
