ForgedReality wrote on Apr 30, 2010, 12:42: They REALLY fucked the pyro up. Let me get this straight: The backburner was about as powerful as the regular flamethrower, except where it crits from behind. Then they made the regular flamethrower 20% less powerful (which was a STUPID nerf, imo), making the backburner more powerful. Then they boosted the backburner's damage by 20%. Now the backburner is 40% MORE powerful than the flamethrower, PLUS it crits from behind. The only reason to use the flamethrower now is reflections using the airblast. You can't kill anything with it now. What the fuck are they thinking?
Good to see the sentry exploit introduced in the last patch is fixed though.
Anybody know what these "new items" are yet? Actually, when they reduced flamethrower damage by 20%, they accidentally reduced BACKBURNER damage by 20% as well. As well, they accidentally reduced flare gun burn duration instead of just flamethrower/backburner burn duration.
When they said they boosted backburner damage by 20%, it was simply to bring it back to where it was originally. It wasn't to make it 40% more powerful.
As to you saying the flamethrower is now useless, that's what the axetinguisher is for. Hell, I tend to play pyro fairly well I think (meaning I don't play it much, but in the right situations I play the hell out of it) and I don't mind the changes at all. The increased amount of airbursting I can do is INSANE! |

SBlat wrote on Jan 20, 2010, 12:46: Still, hearing that they're reusing the Titan Quest engine makes me wonder if they aren't going to have a very hard time competing with Torchlight for the digitally-distributed, action RPG, indie game crown. Also interesting that in the interview they consider "even just" 100,000 sales enough to break even, and put that forward as not only a small number, but small enough to allow them to cater exclusively to a hardcore niche (and now be fan-funded). They're really two completely different games. All reports are (from lots of posts from Crate employees on the Titan Quest message boards and from other general announcements/posts they've made over the past several months) that the game is going to be TQ's spiritual successor.
Torchlight revolves around nothing but dungeon crawling and some REALLY basic classes. Don't get me wrong, I love the game to death, but it's incredibly simple.
TQ had more classes (five are announced for Grim Dawn) and combined them, meaning you could be a warrior/spellcaster with rather deep, fully fleshed-out skill trees rather than the truncated yet high-powered bits that Torchlight offers.
On the other hand, I think that people that love one game may very likely love the other, and simply enjoy having the two co-exist. Hell, I know I'm in that camp myself...
Oh, and Black Legion was the cancelled game they were working on back when they were Iron Lore. That game is gone for good as they were unable to secure the rights to it when they formed Crate. I wish I had some sources for that, but I can't seem to find the appropriate posts. My message board search-fu is weak right now. |

I'd be of the opinion that it's overpriced by about 30 bucks or so.
Oh, and that DRM like this in a simulator or proof of concept would be incredibly stupid.

A modern ROTT wouldn't be the same without Lee making the music though, and I doubt we'd see the shrooms again.
Meh, I don't think the modern environment could take a ROTT without going balistic over the references and gore. Shrooms mode anyone?

You mean something like, oh, X-Com Interceptor?
Totally not turn-based isometric squad tactics, unless you consider space combat flight sim to be... well, yeah.
(though I still liked the game because I'm a space combat junkie)
