Jaded? Im jaded because a game I would probably like, and buy (despite my aversion to EA and Origin) misses functionalities that were standard in first person shooters since the original Doom??? I don't even know how to respond to this, maybe youre trolling me 'cos of my views on StarCitizen or something...

Not saying you're wrong about whether they should include them, but Doom had neither a server browser nor a ping counter. That wasn't standard until Quake 2.

Remember how we all needed QSpy to find Quake servers? That wasn't standard, that was a third party app made to solve a problem id didn't.

You are right. Memory is weird. Doom didn't have a server browser, but Doom2.exe did have a ping counter. We used to play it over the modem back in the day. The Host had PING 0 obviously, while the other guy hoped for the best...(Which is why most games were played to 42 (21x2) where we switched hosts at the midpoint). Same thing with Duke Nukem 3d.

You are also right about Quake not having a server browser initially, but it did have dedicated servers for TCP/IP play. You needed to get the IP numbers for the servers you wanted to play from somewhere else (before Qspy)

Is complaining about not being able to choose a server or see your ping not allowed anymore? That's what I find unforgivable in this otherwise fun game. I don't like when my avatar freezes for 3 seconds and then dies. I also find it annoying when I hit someone 10 times and they hit me twice and I die. Sure, it's great when it's the other way around. Taking out 3 people in a row who can't even see me because of the difference in our ping has nothing to do with my skill though, and just makes the game feel cheap. Give me a server browser so I can select based on ping and I might buy. As it is, it just seems like a random "fish in a barrel" simulator half the time.

No server browser? Not even a PING counter? How the fuck can they get away with this shit???!!! Fuck EA a million times. May they be impaled on a giant Reaper cock and suffer a million years. Needless to say, even after Slick's very slick and attractive few positive posts, Im not touching this with a 10 foot pole.

good luck with all that, NASA trying to remain relevant while their funds are diverted to blowing up brown people in a far off desert.

This. Shame really. People used to look at America as a shining beacon of exceptionalism. The Space Program contributed in a big way to that image. Now when people look at the USA, all they see is an angry world policeman, trying to enforce, who the fuck even knows what anymore...some kind of justice that keeps blowing up in his face all the time.

At this point I just don't care anymore. Would it be really cool if they released HL3? Sure. Why not? Like everyone else I'd like to finish the story, but it's been so long that my interest in the series has waned completely and Valve has obviously moved on to other projects & interests, I seriously doubt they could ever be able to do it justice anymore.

I think the Gabe and the other management 'types' know this full well. The expectations to deliver another masterpiece would be too great and they just don't want to go there to preserve their legacy of the perfect first person shooter(s).

I just hope blue stops with the click bait sensationalist re-posting of this crap and moves on. Chances are low as i'm sure this gets him good ad revenue.

If you deem "Star Citizen Star Cast Revealed" as clickbait then I can only assume you feel the only way to cover this game fairly is by ignoring it entirely.

Yes ... you know as well as I do that posting anything related to star citizen is going to create dissension within your forms which in turn creates ad revenue for the site. I have supported this site for years and enjoy it very much with it's quick fix for news from around the internet but everytime I see a star citizen News posting it makes me cringe at the vile nature of this community. I try to avoid the forms as much as possible but when it gets over 100 post, its hard not to glance at it and then it's hard not to get worked up at the cynicism and the jadedness of the community.

Oh look! Another year long, lurking, 'silent supporter'! We've had quite a few of those lately? Maybe I too should create a smurf nickname when I feel like taking a dump all over the Blues community...

Sure thing. Here's some pictures I took, including a couple of me with Chris Roberts. A friend took some pictures of me with Erin Roberts, Sandi Gardiner and Dave Haddock, which I hope to get soon.

Dude, we might not see eye to eye where Star Citizen is concerned but I gotta hand it to you... Those pants man! You need some serious stones to pull off a look like that. Kudos!

...You don't actually work in the industry, do you?

not like you do. tell us all about your experience working on GTA and elder scrolls. because that's what you're comparing star citizen to, right? the other big games you've worked on for 5-10 years?

Sadly, I never got the chance to work on either of those. The guy who sits behind me in the office did, though. Want me to run your "all comes together in the last month" idea past him?

Logic and common sense apparently have no use in a Star Citizen discussion. Please leave those at the door next time you enter. Thanks.

On a more serious note, I can't for the life of me understand how a lot of people aren't finding it very disturbing that after three years of development, all of these systems are now somehow "coming together". Maybe. Despite the fact that 99% of what was shown so far are Cryengine tech demos. Yeah we all know Cryengine does FPS pretty good. What about some space missions? You know fleet, battles, CAP missions, stuff like that. Im afraid that the only positive thing that will ever come of this project is a university course on the dangers of project creep, and maybe a behavioral study or two on the gullibility of the internet masses. *sigh*

This is the big Sq42 reveal? Really? Not even a single gameplay video of Sq42 in action? Walking around ships is nice and everything, and I'm sure the digital incarnation of Gillian Anderson is just as hot as the real one, but where is the game?

Oh boy, are they in trouble or what?

Not to mention the fact that if he got 'dissapeared' somehow, and it ever got out that the US was behind it, bang....instant martyr. That's why you don't see so many political assassinations anymore. Those in power got wise to the fact they are a very short term solution.

Jesus Christ Verno, are you this condescending always? I've done some coding in my life & I've played quite a few games too, enough to know that the upload speed most games use over the network is nowhere near that mark. Let's do a few quick calculations. Half a MB per second, (since that is the min. requirement) in one hour of gaming adds up to 1.8 GB of data per hour! You don't think that's excessive?

So yeah, Ill stand by my original assertion. Fail netcode.

It's half a megabit, there's nothing wrong with the requirement and games have changed a lot over the years. There is a lot more in sync between server and client these days, there is nothing wrong with their implementation.

Erm, it's not half a megabit, it's half a megabyte. 512 Kbps would be kilobits per second, 512 KBps are kilobytes per second. Quite a bit more. I also fail to see what more could there be in sync between the server and client, if the newer games are so simplified compared to the originals. (And apart from the graphics they really are much simpler) Im thinking that their cloud versions of "dedicated servers" are inefficient as fuck and that well for a lack of better idiom....fail netcode.

I also doubt that Star Citizen is a con. It's just a ridiculously out of scope kickstarter project driven by the ego, sorry, "vision" of it's mastermind. This behemoth of a nonsensical approach to gamemaking will never, ever be finished in any way resembling the promises of His Chairmanness. And EVERYBODY who is working/has been working on the project knows this but will shut up until they leave or get laid off. There is no intentional criminal act involved, it's just a clusterfuck of a project run by somebody who might slowly understand that the scope of his vision is far, FAR beyond anything that can be achieved with our computers at least in the next 10 years or so.

Agree completely. It's not an intentional fuck up, but a fuck up never the less.

It's semantics. You think those people who pledged a shitload will feel any better when this all comes crashing down? Incompetence, Malice, whatever, Im sure CR will find some way to weasel out of it though...

As for the size of Cyberpunk, Im sure they are talking about complexity and game mecahnics, not just in terms of gameplay hours, or landmass size.

For example, in the Wild Hunt for the most part you only played as one very specific character. You could customize him a little bit, but he was a Witcher and he was Geralt of Rivia. In Cyberpunk, you will have the choice to play a multitude of characters/classes. That in itself is a huge upgrade in terms of game mechanics, quest results etc.
