No one broke any laws, people are just distancing themselves from someone who made himself a public fool. Sorry I can't get onside with someone who practically engages in hate speech, maybe the artist didn't want to either. Well thats exactly my point. You yourself would have turned down an offer to work with OSC, the artist ONLY did that after a 'public outcry'. Which means he couldnt care less about OSCs personal views. See what Im gettin at here? Its no longer about what anyone thinks personally its all about making appearances and what is politically correct while taking care of your own ass first and foremost. |

I played the closed alpha and there were plenty of negatives unfortunately. True Sight system sucks and ruins the RPS and territory control they had going on. The choose the OP points thing isn't fun. There was no barbed wire or tank traps in the alpha, no clue if it'll be readded. Doctrines are a grind now. The blizzard mechanics are stupid and uninteresting, they don't really add any strategy to the game and just serve as an annoyance. Your vehicle drivers can be randomly shot and your vehicles taken which is a really stupid RNG game mechanic.
There was plenty of stuff I liked but they added a fair amount of pointless changes for the sake of making changes. Many of the changes made are some token effort at 'realism' and just makes the gameplay tedious. We gave them a lot of feedback so maybe they will get things fixed up for release. Wow interesting early preview, thanks for that. Well some of those changes sound interesting "driver getting shot, weather affecting gameplay, true sight system (?)". although I can see how they would probably be a burden in a competitive multiplayer environment. |

You see because the artist never stated that he hated OSC or that he considered him a biggot and quit for that reason, he basically stated that he quit because and I quote: "The media surrounding this story reached the point where it took away from the actual work, and that’s something I wasn’t comfortable with" Now does that sound like someone who is expressing his views, or of someone who is simply reacting to the opinions and views of other people, basically in a form of self-censorship, due to media 'pressure'.... His view is that he doesn't want to be dragged into controversy and have that affect his career and personal life. That sounds plenty reasonable.
Reacting to the opinions and views of others is pretty much a normal part of society, is it not? Are you advocating that people always do whatever the hell they feel like without regard to the reaction of others?
That just makes you a giant dick and is pretty much where the concept of karma comes from. No, Im advocating that people should stick with their own moral compass. Obviously you should regard and respect the opinions of people who you care about, but really should just everyone flip-flop the way the wind blows? I respect someone who sticks to their guns, I have little respect for people who change their views depending on whats the popular view at the time.
I agree that its not unreasonable to care for your career and act accordingly, in this case no one was really hurt except for OSCs ego maybe. But lets consider another (semi) hyptohetical case:
A US congressman backs down from a bill he believes in, a bill that would advocate real change or reform because he is pressured into it by his own party because a powerful lobyist (and financial party supporter) has decreed that it would be unfavorable to their corporate interest or perhaps because its politicaly unpopular at the time.
The congresman has acted to preserve his career, so that he may some day once again be elected into office, but what about the people who voted for what he was supposed to stand for?
This kind of shit happens everyday, and it happens all over the world and is hardly academic. No one really believes in anything anymore except in saving their own hide, its disgusting and has become the prevalent attitude. Me > everyone else. |

| Yakubs, it seems you missed the "least offensive" part his post. Its very clear to me what ItBurn wanted to say, and while these games are indeed streamlined compared to their 'spiritual' predecesors they are far more complex then the contenders which have been taking these prizes in the last five years or so.... |

I dunno, if the work in question had any references to biggotry that would be understandable. as I understood it that was not the case. The artist quit because the internet got 'angry'. WTF!?
When we start crucifying people not because of their acts, but because of their beliefs, even if those beliefs are wrong, what does that say about our society?

Orson Scott Card's Controversial Superman Story Put on Hold. Good on Sprouse for standing up.
Why? Its not like the story has anything to do with his religious views? Do people really have such a short memory? One of your presidential candidates was a Mormon. What about freedom of expression and freedom of religion (however deluded and wrong it may be?)
Political correctness has become the new fascism.... |

ItBurn wrote on Mar 6, 2013, 09:59: Well, you have to agree, these are the least offensive winners in years. Actual games with substance, complexity and a "niche" are winning. Yeah, weird eh? I think XCOM is the single most fun Ive had with a single player game in the last year, maybe more. Its not a perfect game by any margin but its pretty good and has proven that a turn based tactical game CAN be successful, or that a game doesnt have to be DEVOID of all complexity to appeal to gamers.
I salute them and steadfastly hope for an even better sequel! |

How big is the game install? Also is it CPU/RAM/MOBO hog or more of a graphics card hog?
I have a nice new Ivybridge system with lots of ram etc, but Im worried my 'old' HD6870 might be a bit on the low end for this one... |

Also, I've found myself enjoying this alpha quite a lot. Animations are so much better, the radio banter is infinitely better.
I think third time's the charm for Bohemiah. They've got something special here.
On a related note, the price of ArmaIII will increase as the beta and the final release come out. The alpha is pretty much priced at half the price of the full game when it comes out. I can say that if the prospect of ArmaIII interests you to get it right now. When I got ArmAII at release I didn't find it too fun until a dozen patches later. I'm already finding A3 fun despite being an alpha.
And the graphics, holy fuck these graphics. You've just made the wait for the end of the day at work a lot harder.
No shit. Guess I'll be grabbing it this weekend.
