Hopefully a 65 gig preload.

It was a gutsy move, and I applaud it, we are talking about a horror movie after all. "Feel good" hollywood subplots have no business being in a good horror film anyway. (Or in anything else for that matter)

Just to clarify, I don't think that the Newt subplot was weak in Aliens. It wasn't, it was an essential part of the film. However in Alien3, killing off both Newt and Hicks, also served the plot of the film greatly. First of all it was unexpected, and secondly it once again cast Ripley as an outsider even more isolated and vulnerable than before.

Funny, that's why I bought a PC.

Maybe he already has a PC, ever think of that?

Maybe Blue has a sense of humour, ever think of that?

Man that would be cool. Wait. Hey! I actually liked Alien3. I guess I am alone on this planet in thinking it was a great film that put one of my favorite directors on the map.

Maybe I am missing it... How is pre ordering GTA 5 going to hurt PC development, or Rockstars view/treatment of PC? Would like it explained I think I am missing it.

It's not just about GTA, it applies to any AAA game. Basically you are agreeing to buy a cat-in-the-bag type of product. A large number of preorders basically tells the honcho guys at rockstar that they can get away with doing a shitty port. The money is already in the bag, as people like to say. What adds insult to injury is the fact that GTAIV was an abysmal port, so it's not like there isn't a precedent here.

Anways, it really comes down to one thing. What have you got to lose to wait until release day at least? The answer is nothing, in most cases. With a preorder you can never be really sure.

With GTAV we already know what the gameplay will be like, the question is only how well it is ported. With most games you don't even get that, it's down to either gettin on the hype train or staying off it.

Im probably going to pick this up. I loved the original game, even though it was hard as fuck. I didnt really like the second game as much as it had a weaker story, but I do remember roflstomping with battlecruisers in the later parts of the sequel. I dont think the original game had them, those units were fucking broken.

That sounds like a wonderful excuse for each vendor to blame the other for performance issues...

Was just about to write something very similar. Sounds like a wonderful way to break or severly slow down your system. This part is relevant though:

There is a catch, however. Lots of the optimization work for the spreading of workloads is left to the developers the game studios

I predict that lazy developers will continue to be lazy. Amen.

There is no rational reason to preorder a game, like ever. It's not rational. I will admit that Ive done it on ocasion, but it was never a rational choice.

When I get home I'll take a pic. It isn't like I can prove it's been on for that long to anyone but my family and perhaps some friends I've shown. I could put it on a 24/7 cam and stream it and then watch the next 5 years as no one tampers with it.

But at least you'll see the miraculous everlasting light, divine it is. I'm a believer!

It will probably go out as soon as you set that shit up. Murphy and all...

Their mistake with the first version was they went for a 1:1 tabletop to PC game translation. It was very well made, but it lost a lot of the intensity of the boardgame when you have two people physically playing it. Each level was entirely visible (like the boardgame) which killed most of the suspense, plus it was dictated by RNG which was frustrating in the game, but a key part of the boardgame.

With Ascension, they've re-made the game but solely aimed at PC gamers - well gamers. Things like RNG has been replaced by percentages, and abilities such as using control points to clear weapon jams, and more control of weapon heat. It doesn't sound like much but it makes an incredible difference.

They also added a basic RPG system to it, where surviving Terminators gain XP and can level up their invididual skills - so you can more easily specialise.

But the best change IMO was the Space Hulks are now dark. Dark and only illuminated by what your Terminator's display with their armour's lighting sources - slightly increased again when they go into Overwatch. You cant even tell where branches in tunnels are, or doors, or even ventilation tunnels between them until you physically explore them. What this means is - your enemies can come from anywhere. YOu need to creep forward, cover all approaches - it's bloody good.

I bought the first one and dont feel bitter about it because it was a good game, just flawed due to the 1:1 boardgame to pc game translation. Ascension is what the first one should have been.

With these chapter packs, they're exploring more complexity to the missions, adding further obstacles and random elements, which is just what this game needs. This Salamander pack looks great.

It's an easy game to reccomend to any fellow 40k fans - or anyone who likes a turn based strategy that can be really quite difficult.

Purge in his name!

Sold! Got the first one and was kinda dissapointed with it. Thought Ascension was more of the same, looks like they addressed a lot of the problems that are inherent in a board game TC, so yeah. Sold!

The Lego Movie was a disjointed affair redeemed by a catchy song and a few jokes, it obviously went through several ending revisions before they finally settled on the weirdest one possible. Fun movie but not something I would give awards to.

You obviously didn't get the subtle subversive undertones in the film. It's a brilliantly subversive film that makes fun of our consumer society in the best way possible. Humour.

President Business FTW!

It's amusing that you think the movie is somehow deep enough for people not to grasp.

Oh...I see. So you got the message but you what? Hate humanity? Felt the urge for an ad-hominem attack?

Any FPS game could be converted, all you need is another independent "look" finction seperate from the mouse. Then mod the UI so it re-arranges itself out of the corners, so it can be seen while wearing a headset. that's it. it could be hard as fuck, it could be impossible, or it could be entirely plausible if there was a company that took the lead to corral everyone using the "right" standards such as a universal FOV/sensitivity: It should mimic head movements 1:1 as default, so that all muscle movements A) feel natural, immersive and demonstrate presence. and B) your skills will transfer from title to title as all movements will be the same.

AFIK Valve is already working with Oculus on an SDK for the Rift and (I assume) other VR devices. Im not sure what you are talking about, the decision to support the device is up to each game developer. You can't reverse engineer support for old games without the source code for each game.

What world view? That's not a world view. That's racism. Imagine the uproar if a white woman had said that on record about black males.

Why is the title misleading? They went to the Oscars dressed up as women while tripping on acid. Why does there have to be a point beyond that?

i've tried those demos, and none of them give me the feeling of movement freedom like WindLands does. No other game has made me go "OOOOOH SHHHHIT" out loud repeatedly completely involuntarily. It was one of those "Mario64 moments" except even more immersive.

and i don't know the technical word for it. An application that's designed to hook a game and hijack the control inputs in between the player and the game... "middleware" just sounds right, as it's getting in the middle. but whatever, that could be wrong but my point stands: if Steam can develop a system, like a community of game devs that can submit their game code to valve, which would then in turn add proper HMD VR implementation, that would set them apart from ANY other competitor in the field. If Valve makes steps to make use of their market dominance with PC games with regards to VR, they'll cement themselves as the leader in VR for decades to come.

No other company could come close, whatever service has the games wins. If valve figure out a way to make the games happen, to open up their current catalogue of tens of thousands of titles... then it would be the superior service. even if the headset turned out to be inferior to the competition.

You are daydreaming again Slick. You can't expect hardware manufacturers to create application independent user interfaces, it's just not viable (or profitable if you like). At the moment all we can hope for is that someone (Oculus maybe?) brings a decent consumer product to the market. Something no one has done yet, yes not even Oculus and no the DK2 doesn't count. The rest will take care of itself, if the product is good and popular enough developers will be falling over themselves to support it. As for older games, well you know today's climate as well as everyone, how many AAA studios support their games beyond a few patches these days???
