Yeah I know

I guess I couldn't resist the irony of a Star Citizen 'believer' defending a no-refund policy of a game that's still in development. One that could in theory remain in development until the heat death of the universe.

Actually they don't. It states both on Kickstarter and the RSI Tos that the game is subject to change and may be delayed. Kickstarter clearly states in the kickstarter faq (quote followsthis comment its a long read), It also states in RSI's TOS link and quote follows comment.

You can bitch and moan or hell even talk out your ass like Cutter or you can accept its pretty much like every other game out there in development thats in Pre Alpha. So its going to get delayed and yes content is going to change.

Its clearly stated on the Kickstarter faq and the RSI TOS what to
expect.

Kickstarter FAQ excerpt followed by RSI TOS excerpt:

What should creators do if they're having problems completing their project?

If problems come up, creators are expected to post a project update explaining the situation. Sharing the story, speed bumps and all, is crucial. Most backers support projects because they want to see something happen and they'd like to be a part of it. Creators who are honest and transparent will usually find backers to be understanding.

It's not uncommon for things to take longer than expected. Sometimes the execution of the project proves more difficult than the creator had anticipated. If a creator is making a good faith effort to complete their project and is transparent about it, backers should do their best to be patient and understanding while demanding continued accountability from the creator.

If the problems are severe enough that the creator can't fulfill their project, creators need to find a resolution. Steps should include offering refunds, detailing exactly how funds were used, and other actions to satisfy backers. For more information, see Section 4 of our Terms of Use.

For projects that launched before October 19, 2014, please see our previous Terms of Use.

In addition on RSI website in the terms of service
( https://robertsspaceindustries.com/tos )

RSI agrees to use its good faith business efforts to deliver to you the pledge items and the Game on or before the estimated delivery date communicated to you on the Website. However, you acknowledge and agree that delivery as of such date is not a firm promise and may be extended by RSI since unforeseen events may extend the development and/or production time. Accordingly, you agree that any unearned portion of your Pledge shall not be refundable until and unless RSI has failed to deliver the relevant pledge items and/or the Game to you within eighteen (18) months after the estimated delivery date.

Ok, so basically what you are saying that if RSI fucks up and never releases anything anything at all and CR spends all that dough on Star Trek uniform ripoffs, fancy promo videos and a first person arena shooter with one map, no one gets a refund??

Really I can play Squadron42 now? All of it? Right now? What about Star Citizen can I play that? Right now? Can I play all of the ships I pledged for? What about that?

Maybe you should go shill somewhere else loomy, you have no power here.

I don't get the WOW comparison. Other than the skill trees. Which I hate. Still love the game(now that it's fixed).

Where do I start?

Ok, just of the top of my head: art direction, art assets (mostly NPCs and certain mobs), cartoon PG13 story, no pentagrams, BOA, no PvP, simplified loot mechanics, simplified stats, skill tree (as already mentioned), etc. etc. etc.

Need I go on?

That's pretty cynical.

Not to mention wrong. Case in point: Steam OS can be installed on any machine.

This is the entire article:

Since Oculus got everyone sweaty over virtual reality, the focus has mostly been on games, and specifically PC games. But thatís been slowly changing since it was acquired by Facebook, and the Oculus Rift has started to be positioned as this ubiquitous device in the same way the smartphone is now.

Thatís always been the plan, though. At his GDC talk today, John Carmack discussed the potential of mobile VR, and why it was the reason he originally started working with Oculus in 2013.

ďSome people ask 'Why mobile VR at all?' It's a fair question, especially where most of the Oculus base is the hardcore PC gamer,Ē said Carmack as he started his talk. "We've got a ton of people working hard on it, but there's an opportunity to go beyond it. I can still say at GDC that VR goes beyond gaming.Ē

Carmack envisions a world where billions of people use VR, but he doesnít think that can happen through gaming and PC peripherals alone. But billions of people already use phones, thatís a market thatís already around the scale he wants VR to get to.

Oculusí current mobile venture is the Samsung Gear VR, which only works on the massive Galaxy Note 4. An updated version is in the works for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

Yes it is this mind-blowingly short. And yes, as soon as we are about to get the point where John says WHY he thinks the future of VR is in mobile tech, the article ends.

Ah Journalism at its best.

I have a slightly different story from Shihonage, as I come from a former Yugoslav republic.

We had it pretty good in Yugoslavia. Things went downhill once the country broke up and the nationalists (in Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia) started to deal in AK47 gunpoint politics. Tito's experiment failed. Had he lived a little bit longer and chosen a proper successor, things might have been different. But Yugoslavia's own brand of socialism whereby it played both NATO and the Soviet bloc, worked pretty good for a while.

Unlike the Russians who have recovered a lot under Putin (at least economically, if not politically) the Balkan states are doing terribly poorly on their own (the war in the 90's didn't help) what happened with Greece is only the start. The unfortunate truth is that for the big EU countries to stay wealthy they need poorer members to provide an educated but cheap workforce.

I lived in Europe for three years, courtesy of Uncle Sam--in the Mediterranean areas of Greece & Italy, mainly. I enjoyed the vacation, the people were great and I had a lot good times, but when I got back to the states I kissed the ground, I was so happy to be back...;) It's for certain that anyone who thinks they'd rather live somewhere else has no clue at all--there are so many things we as Americans take for granted that simply aren't available in many other Western countries. For instance, in Greece it took me 12 months to get a telephone number and phone through the state-run telephone company, the *only* telephone company--horribly inefficient. Renting a house with central A/C was impossible--I had to buy my own. In England, when you buy a car there are no lots full of cars to choose from and there are no demo drives, even--you pick your car from a catalog and order it, sight unseen. 6 weeks to 6 months is the average wait to drive it off the lot. Oh, and did I mention that people pay VAT taxes *on top* of income taxes...? These are just a few of the differences I noted during my stay in the late '80's.

In Russia, the economics are even worse, not to mention that Putin has Snowden in his pocket (which is why Snowden never releases any negative info on the Russian Federation--only America has free-speech law to protect people against government retaliation for what they say.) It isn't surprising at all that Snowden wants to come home--even to face a trial--and he would not be the first to burn his bridges and then regret it.

But from the time Snowden committed felonies by lying to the government about his background in order to gain employment with an NSA subcontractor....(the least of the felonies he has committed since)...Snowden has made his own bed. Sure, he doesn't really want to sleep in it, but he should have thought about that long ago...

This is the most ignorant, arrogant, patronizing and completely cherry picked bullshit comment I have read from you yet Walt. Europe has changed a lot from the 80's, but go ahead believing in your own fucking ubermensch superiority and please. Don't visit for a 'three year' vacation anymore.

The critical flaw with streaming is that there's lag. It makes inputs less responsive and means that you're too late to react to what's really happening in the game. Any game that requires actual player skill would suffer significantly. Also, to Stream really high quality graphics with no compression artifacts, you'd need an internet connection that I'm not sure exists or is affordable to us mortals.

really great creative writing but what does it have to do with this story

Yeah who cares about these fuckers. They basically stopped making proper games about 10 years ago. They focused on making money for EA, lots of it. For a while they did great, and now that EA has squezed them dry it's time to discard the shell of a once great and creative game studio, and bring in a new fresh one to turn into a money making machine.

Seems like most here that bought it love it. Where they paid?

Why are some so convinced every review is paid?

Im not saying that every review is paid, or even that this one is, but when someone calls a game "brilliant" and "boring" in the same paragraph then there is something seriously wrong with that reviewer/journalist/person.
