People are such self-centered, inconsiderate assholes. I have 7 dogs and I fall over myself naking sure they do not bark and bother my neighbors, meanwhile all my neighbors leave their dogs out to bark incessantly at 6am on a Sunday.

7 dogs? 7? You a fan of Snow White or what?

Damn you Blizzard. You created and then you destroyed my favorite game franchise of all time.

So, I hear some of you are kicking yourselves for bitching at me when I said I wanted to make FS3 few years back?

Heh. The thing isn't, Derek, that we don't want FS3 to be made. It's that there's little trust that you would do it justice. You've made interesting games, to be sure, and I'll leave aside the whole broohaha about how broken they are that always follows them, but they also tend to be a bit of a "all that and the kitchen sink too!" variety. Kinda like SC, really.

FS, as you well know, is nothing like that. It's about the pure, smooth-as-silk art of dogfighting in space, and the sheer mind-blowing awe you feel when you first see just how fucking BIG those enemy cap ships are. Without it, it wouldn't be FS. And people just don't think you can deliver on that.

In any case, like I already said before, why bother with the IP? It's the most generic sci-fi tripe imaginable. Write some new fiction, make FS3, call it "Free in Space" and blammo.

I dunno I never felt it was generic. Perhaps during the early parts of the first game it felt like a rip on Wing Commander, but the game's universe and story grew on you. Not to mention the sexy ships and the incomprehensible truly alien antagonists. FS2 especially is hailed as one of the best space 'sims' ever made, despite the dissapointing sales. It would be a shame to let the IP go to waste, especially if someone like Volition would be on board for another go at it.

Why isnt anyone actively pursuing a sequel to "Freespace2"? With the recent resurgence of interest in space games in general, especially space flight sims, and with everyone concentrating of open world games, or MMOs (CR gimme Foundry42 and the rest be dammned goddamnit) I would be eager to see Volition going back to their roots and doing one. Who owns the licence for this IP?

Man, you guys really hate an optional inanimate software program that intends no harm to anyone.

I dont hate Origins. I just hate that its an exclusive EA store/drm platform in one package. If Origins had a wider choice of overlapping games from different publishers I would even consider it as an alternative to Steam. Since this is EA we are talking about: NEVER GONNA HAPPEN!

OK, this might be a regional thing or whatever but I (Europe) could easily buy lots of 3rd party games from Origin like ACU, AC4, FarCry 4, Wasteland 2, Tomb Raider, EVE Online, Watch Dogs, Bound by Flame, Blackguards, some Splinter Cell games, Remember Me, Metro 2033 and Last Light, Resident Evil Revelations, Hitman Absolution, Saint's Row, Euro Truck Simulator, Darksiders 2, The Secret World, you know... I think by now it should be clear that they do not only carry the EA catalogue .

Well, this is news to me. Seems like one of my major points of grief with Origins has been sort of addressed. Thanks for that.

I'm more worried about the people who are both aware & perfectly ok with it.

This is more or less what I once told a friend of mine when he showed disgust at people voting a certain way during an election because of their beliefs. I told him that those people aren't the problem, rather the biggest danger is people who really believe they are doing the right thing and that they are smarter than (and thus more capable of representing) other people. I'd rather risk a righteous person than a righteous person with hubris. What I was politely saying is that he was acting like one of those latter people, but it went over his head.

I consider myself an amateur historian these days and trying to explain even basic concepts to the average person is difficult. Trying to explain it to someone intelligent who also thinks they know better or, worse, someone who doesn't care, is significantly more troublesome.

The problem is, that this is ingrained in pretty much everyone. People are egoistcal bastarads. This is why we can't have nice things.

Actually, all of you who tried it out years ago should give it a second chance. The developer and publisher split up this summer and lot have changed for the better sense then. Is it a grind at times? Yes, but what MMO does not have some grinding to it. Community warfare is the bigger picture game the player base has been waiting for for years.

If you like the mechwarrior concept, try it again. There's nothing to loose but a little time and maybe you find some mech junkie friends along the way.

They had their chance. I played this game quite religiously back in teh day. Once they started selling snake oil I gave up. This was supposed to be released two years ago. Fuck em.

Also no one else finds it the least bit suspicious that the price of crude has gone down, and stayed down at exactly the right time to hurt the russian economy (who's economy relies on oil and earth gas production to a HUGE extent) when it will hurt the most, in winter?

I dont subscribe to conspiracy theories, but OPEC never had a problem gouging the rest of the world with its exobirant oil prices for the past 10-15 years and suddenly crude is dirt cheap??

I dont like EA's business practices, I dislike what they are doing to PC gaming in the grand scheme of things, and all of this is apparent in their marketing and in their game design. Origin is a small and vital part of that and Im not gonna support it if I can help it.

Why do you care if they have marketng presence or not? You are playing the game already, Mojang got his billions and this is Microsoft we are talking about anyway. So no big surprise there.

Since Blue already mentioned it, I just wanted to say how the gas price in my country dropped all of 2% with the recent 30+% drops in crude. So as bad as you guys feel you have it in the States, you still got it pretty good compared to most of the rest of the world...

Its both a feel good/feel shit story! Depending on one's outlook

As I docked I was reading the news at the station some of the top player pirates have nearly 300,000 bounty on their head already!

Haha yes that's probably mostly the dumbasses who thought there'd be a wipe and went bonkers shooting anything in sight all willy-nilly. Welp, and now with no wipe happening they are finding themselves at the center of attention all of a sudden .

Is there any way to track these bandits across the galaxy? For example a last known location would be kind of cool. So that bounty hunting isnt a matter of random luck of running into AI or player pirates while sniffing around lawless systems?

(someone please say yes)

I was thinking of specializing exclusively in these kinds of missions.
