I dont get the deal with preordering I really dont. Sure there are these preorder bonuses discounts and whatnot, but you can find those after release too!! So what gives?? After the A:CM fiasco, what possible reason could you have to part with your cash before the release date and some first hand reports on the gameplay??

The core gameplay of MW:O is solid. No one is disputing that. The grind, compared to other games like World of Tanks is very very easy. You can spend 0 money on this game and in about 250 games will have enough currency to buy and equip the most expensive mech in the game (The Atlas I believe). So as a F2P model, its pretty solid as well.

What everyone (including me) and their grandmother has a problem with is the direction that the game is taking, namely THERE IS NONE!!!

Clan wars was promised years ago, nothing. Varied missions, nothing. New maps, well there have been some but they are so few and far between its ridiculous. New mechs, nearly as bad as the map thing. Clan mechs at least? Dont get me started...

Basically they are reinvesting the bare fucking minimum on the game and they simply dont give a shit. Thats is what everyone is complaining about.

I dunno. I just built a new rig - finally after the last 3 years - and I have an ADATA SX900 128GB that's 550/R 520/W and it doesn't seem to be a whole lot faster than my 7200 500GB WD - which is now my D drive. From the way everyone talks I thought it'd be like a night and day difference but it isn't. I'd say it's marginally faster - but that could just as much have to do with my new RAM, Mobo, etc. I wouldn't say someone *has* to get one. Particularly given the cost and the much shorter life span on them.

Thats weird Cutter. I use my SSD for the system disk, and my boot time is like a few seconds tops. Also the one HUGE game I have on it (DCS: World) loads like 4-5 faster at least. Although the load times of DCS on a traditional HDD were attrocious to say the least. So maybe you havent really taxed it yet?

The NFL is a joke of course, they clearly should have fired Ray Rice immediately. The real question should be, how did Ray Rice NOT go to prison in the first place? Nice work, police.

Probably because they saw the whole video. Unlike anyone else here I might add. Im not defending the guy here, but if his girlfriend was indeed being abusive on tape throwing (weak) punches, slaps and whatnot and the tape has all of that on there, a good fucking lawyer would have a field day with that. Its fucking cynical but it is what it is.

Beyond the obvious dismay at seeing Microsoft acquire yet another PC-centric property to grind into dust, I have to question the business side of it as well. Minecraft is really impressive sales wise but has already realized a significant portion of its potential lifetime sales. Sure they could milk it with Minecraft-esque IP that shares the same name but that would only go for so long. The modding community would probably throw a shit fit over this too and its a big part of the reason Minecraft became as popular as it is today. Does anyone really see Mojang being a good fit for corporate Microsoft?

2 billion could go into funding new IP, new studios or etc. Mojang doesn't really seem to have any other IP worth speaking of. If you're going to go that big, why not look at acquiring Take-Two or something? At least then you've got 2 big franchises to work with.

Maybe they want to integrate some version of the game into their next OS? Thats the only way this deal could make any sense. Although with how Microsoft has handled PC gaming so far, incompetence and pure stupidity could also be a pretty good bet.

Unfortunately nobody can really make a game that feels as good as MW2, because it used an excellent engine with flight sim physics which were military grade. Because the dude who wrote that engine used to make military grade simulators.

Erm...I agree that MW2 was probably the best Mechwarrior game ever, but it was hardly due to the engine and graphics. Sure these were quite good for their time, but what was most memorable about the game was its fantastic storyline and the rich lore of the Clans which was presented in a stunning fashion. Lets not forget the awesome musical score which IMO was never surpassed in any game since. (I76 came close, another INhouse Activision game, back when they used MAKE games :))

I wish more people would actually read/watch/listen to the actual things their criticizing and reasonably assessing what's actually going. I'm wondering how many commenting here actually read the RPS post.

Yeah I read it. I would even go so far as to agree with you on most of your points (and most of their points) but the fact of the matter remains that ALL gamers are not the minority of trolls but ALL gamers are very protective of their hobby and any attempts to smear or generalize opinion about them or their hobby. This is what Sarkesian and others tried to do, and when the minority of idiots lashed back at her the establishment overreacted and took a huge giant dump on the gaming community in general. For some reason developers and publishers are hugely hostile to the long time hobbyist gamer. They have been for years, and now this comes along and the hostility bubbles right up again.

Is it so hard for someone to say "We condemn the assholes who threaten death over the internet, but our games are ART and we stand with the majority of gamers who we believe are not represented by the minority of dickwads on the internet"??

Stephen Hawking is a media-hyped Physicist and likely not even on a list for the top 20 Physicists of the 20th century.

Wow.

I'm not saying he doesn't deserve the attention he gets but I am confident in saying that there are likely far more Physicists out there who have gone unnoticed by the media that contributed far more towards their fields of research.

Michio Kaku is another example of a media-hyped Physicist but that doesn't mean he's bad. I love me some Michio Kaku.

20 might be a stretch though.

My dad is a physicist, and while Stephen Hawking is very famous and acclaimed in the general media compared to most physicists let me assure you of this: He is EVEN MORE acclaimed in the physics community and was so way before anyone outside of the community even knew of his existence.

Everything demonstrated so far has been really encouraging but I don't preorder games anymore. Hopefully it holds up, I would love a good survival horror game set in the Alien universe.

Exactly. The concept of a dynamic AI that stalks you through a contained location is kind of awesome.

It's a shame that dynamic AI doesn't exist. The alien's actions are almost 100% scripted, using cheap tricks like teleporting throughout the environment. It doesn't help when the game has a very linear level design and none of that exploration and survival horror like they lead us to believe.

As a $10-$20 budget title I would bite. A linear, scripted, singleplayer-only game with no mod support I can't get behind for the $50+ asking price.

Hmmm, I have read statements from the developers stating directly the opposite of what you wrote. Im not going to preorder the game in any case, but Im wondering where you got your information from?

Looks like the online gaming rags noticed that being controversially one sided and openly hostile to most of their readers by lumping them all in the same generalized category brings a shitload of views and clicks to their sites. Why is anyone surprised they are choosing to take this road? Case in point, one (in a series) of the longest threads on Bluesnews that has nothing to do with games or gaming, and everything to do with the supposed controversy of being a gamer. A term which has somehow become synonimous with "sexist pig" thank you very much. Its a deliberate churn of the waters. More hits = more $$$.

Diaper grown mushrooms? Oh hell no! Oh man, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

I got news for you. All vegetables and grains are grown in some kind of shit. When animals are slaughtered they get covered in shit that spews from their guts. Most food has traces of crap on it. That's why we keep getting cases of e coli poisoning from improperly washed fresh veggies and improperly cooked meet. So unless you're slaughtering your own animals and growing your own veggies, buyer beware.

So basically what you are saying is that we have basically been eating shit every single day since the day we were weaned from our mother's tit?? I kind of thought as much...

Windows 2000 and Windows Vista were actually more popular than Windows XP and Windows 7, respectively, among power users.

Puh-lease! Vista was a DOG of an OS that no "power user" I know of wanted anything to do with. Insane amount of hand-holding and confirmation prompts for the most basic of tasks. I hated working on Vista machines, and skipped it myself, jumping from XP to 7. I like 7. It's solid and stable and fast. No reason to upgrade to the latest dog that is 8, and 9 will have to be pretty special for me to bother. I don't need Office or Firefox or Minecraft or Photoshop to open faster than they do now, and they can't really run better. After seeing the Android OS that MS tried to pass off as Windows8, I'm not really impressed with what their idea of "upgrade" means. I don't want a Mac. I want a Windows machine that I have absolute control of every program and service that loads. I want a fucking file manager where I "see" where all my shit is and move it where I want easily, NOT "My Pictures" or "My Documents", and certainly not those big square block thingies of Windows8.

Basically, I want DOS/Win3.1 with XTreeGold (and DirectX 11 support).

"You cant allways get what you want..." The Rolling Stones

There is no way that Windows 9 will be more open than 8. In fact every single version of Windows has been more closed than the last. I for one expect the equivalent of "Play Store" or "iTunes" to be fully integrated into the next version of the OS. We will still have some modicum of control over what we can install with 9, but when 10 rolls along that could become a thing of the past.
