I completely agree. STO needs a meaningful death penalty. The sooner it dies, the better for all of us.

Well, that's more like a death reward, but I digress...

I agree with you brother! Long live our lolcat overlords!

But where do you draw the line?

You draw the line at spearmen taking down AH64s.

Agree.

Also, spearmen vs AH64 battles don't take months. They take exactly the amount of time it takes for the AH64 to fly within a mile or so of the spearmen, press one button, and then fly home.

I skipped 4 even though I think it was likely better than 3..

I never could get into IV. Every game I played just seemed like I was a passenger on the trip. Maybe cause the computer players were a little less likely to go Ghengis Khan on you. I never had a game where I was defending on three borders from the various hordes.

In Civ III, it seemed like I always doing that. Seemed more exciting. IMHO.

It makes sense to stop selling a $2000 11 inch display, but I really hope OLED lives on to replace LCD tech...

Would be nice I suppose. I was more excited about SED and FED technologies, but those might never come to fruition. I think we'll be on LCDs another 10-15 years.

The potential of OLED technology is pretty awesome, to bad the current manufacturing technology makes them so expensive.

All of these games are old, obsolete, or unpopular. The players of these games no doubt already own several other, newer, titles published by EA that they are already playing.

Madden 08 for PC is the last Madden for the PC. No more online games for Madden/PC anymore.

News Comments > Starships Ahoy - Star Trek Online - New Races for Sale
27. Re: Starships Ahoy - Star Trek Online - New Races for Sale Feb 3, 2010, 20:58 JohnnyRotten

I don't think it's a matter of making the "game that everyone wants", it's making a game that is not a cookie cutter MMO that can be re-skinned in a few days to be Pirates of the Burning Sea. Or a ground combat racing game. Or a super hero game. At least PotBS actually has a crafting system.

This thing is so bland that I had would have a hard time investing time in it if it was free. Meh. Harsh, but true (for me). Two dimensional combat in space/sea with endless close in turning battles is just boring after a while. Half thought out land combat doesn't help either. I'm actually talking about both STO and PotBS here. It's just not very interesting.

And I just get the feeling with Cryptic that they always have a hand in my pocket trying to pry open my wallet. Give the least experience possible for the initial buy in, then nickle and dime you to death. Playable races? Character slots? Really? No seriously, really?

The one consistent trend in MMO's seems to be if it has good hype, it will have a lot of initial subscribers, but if doesn't have depth, then people are going to bail. Maybe I can coin a phrase - something like the "Titanic Syndrome." Everyone wants to be on the boat when it sail's, but it gets real ugly when it hits the iceberg.

To bad the mmogchart guy still doesn't update his charts. I'm betting this thing will follow the usual trend of early subscriber spike followed by a quick decline.

I'm not sure what I'm looking for in a star trek game (actually I do - I want f'ing trekmuse with graphics*), but this ain't it. Pass.

* Please, please, please

Monetizing starting races. Monetizing the number of number of character slots. Nicely done. Hope it falls flat on its face.

Okay, testers; give over. How bad does this thing suck?

I'm with ant. It was ok. Not great. Still looking for that game that lets me relive trekmuse's combat (multiple bridge officers, true 3d combat shield facings, etc.

A friend of mine hit it on the head for me. It's basically pirates of the burning sea in space: 1 ship = 1 person, 2d shields/hull, etc. Although the crafting in pobs is better. Not a super fair comparison, but there it is.

to anyone from the STO staff who might fall across these forums (god help you) - thanks for the open beta and a chance to evaluate the product.

I've learned to game one year behind the industry. You get everything fully patched and working, you get games with DRM already removed, the hardware to run them is cheaper, and there have been dozens of FAQs written for them. Any mods are established and polished. Not only that, you get all those $60 games for $20 or less.

It is so much more pleasant than to keep up with this week's releases.
On the same plan.
