I woulda paid full price for the game with Alpha access, why are they limiting the people to test it out grrr

Almost certain because it was a kickstarter project, so they have to match the prices for the tier for alpha access.

Proper Start menu on Windows 8. $3 bucks and done.
Yeah, that's what I got and love it. Boots to desktop and that's where I stay.

The app boots you right into desktop? How? The login screen is in metro isn't it? Or is it somehow skipping that?

I dont have the app, just 8.1 and i boot straight to desktop as well. As for a login screen, i've never had to 'login' to win8 (that goes for 8.0 and 8.1)

Ah... so things are changing slowly for the better then... I never tried Win8 again since the RTM version.

So basically you can use Windows 8.1 now without ever seeing the Metro tile GUI ?

If you use one of the start programs, i'd wager yes. Although without it you dont spend more then a few seconds in it (as much as you ever did the start menu). Win8.2 seems to cure all concerns by bringing back the start menu (without addon), and having windowed 'apps'.

Looks like someone needs to learn how to use the Start-Menu. That search box is there for a reason.

Yes, for typing its the exact same. However we were discussing the mouse interaction of launching a program.

DJ focuses on the music production of things (from what it appears) as do I when it comes to soundcards, and unless you are doing movie music you never piss with 5.1 just stereo.

But he's correct in saying that creative makes shit cards (for music/production) - they are good for games and directional sound but not for purity of sound as an audiophile or producer. Most wouldn't tell a difference as a listener anyway so just go with what you like.

On a related note I don't need quality sound for games, my 5:1 game setup is purely for knowing exactly where you are so I can kick your ass the best.

This! Thanks for putting it better then i could Also of note, whenever i need direction sound ques from a game i just plugin my headphones.

I never understood why gamers buy creative's shit sound cards that cost as much as really good entry level prosumer cards. 6months ago i got a Focusrite 2i2 usb card to go along with my 8" monitors (speakers) and its pretty awesome. Never had any driver issues with anything. Works on Win7/8/OSx etc. Anyways ya, just let creative die already.

What? I don't know what you guys have been smoking.

Star Citizen is made by a large team and a lot of them are veterans of the industry that have released top quality games in the past and know how things work. I don't even know why you dragged SC into this, get a better hobby than being negative about this particular random thing in the world.

This game is made by a handful of young indie devs. I saw the interview with the devs at the VGX yesterday and I wasn't filled with confidence that they had the required experience, money, talent and numbers. The amount of features that we saw in the (very scripted)video would be too much for a lot of AAA studios.

Yet somehow they've shown more then your accomplished dev's. As for harlock, how's being a nazi working out for you on the internet?

I think its rediculous that dev's have forgotten what beta and alpha means. As beta is only suppose to be for FINE TUNING games rather then adding or removing content and major features. You want to see a well run game that understands the meaning of Alpha and Beta, look no further then Prison Architect.

Looks extremely cool, but it's way too big of a project for some indie devs.

As opposed to what Star Citizen dev's that have almost nothing to show for it other then a hanger that a 10 year old kid could write?

They didn't even write it, just some 3D assets tossed into CryEngine.

Meanwhile you have things like this and the progress on Elite Dangerous that shows real promise.

http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=9075

Hense why i said a 10 year old could of written it. And yes there is some code that was envolved regardless if it was a 3rd party engine.

Just look at Limit Theory with its 1 man dev team and part time graphics guy for a successfull procedural indy title. It most certainly can be done if the dev's are skilled enough.

The Walking Dead was a great game. I'm sure season 2 will be as well. But I fear that TT turining everything into an episodic series is going to water everything down. I doubt one writer, or the ones who worked on WD will be working on the others as they are all in developement at the same time. I think some of these will turn out good, and others not so much. TT saw the success of the Walking Dead game, now they are chasing the money. I guess I can't blame them for wanting to get rich(er) and retire.

They repeated that success with The wolf among us.
