I feel bad for the people Bill screwed over with Hellgate: London. Remember - this is the guy who was out touring with his band while the game was crashing and burning.
Up yours Bill, diaf. |

I wanted Spore. I did not buy Spore. I did not pirate Spore. I don't believe I have a god given right to rip intellectual property - but I'll be damned if I'll pay for shoddy merchandise.
Know what I did buy? Sins of a Solar Empire. ZERO DRM. I could be churning out copies of that game faster than you can make a cup of coffee. I could have torrented it down from any one of a thousand sites.
I gave them my $40 - because they're not treating me like a criminal. Great game, great experience, great developer, great publisher. Easy, peasy. If more companies take steps like EA did to make me "pay" for games I won't be paying for them at all - I'll find a new hobby. For now, I'm giving my money to the people that understand their user base.
Really, in the end VG, you're just promoting a practice that's going to pull more money out of the market. You're either an idiot or a rather subtle troll.

This is a game wherein you click on things and make them dead. It's a FUN game where you click on things and make them dead. Blue, thank you for posting the follow up. My faith in you is restored. I'm pleased that I can continue to get my gaming news and my daily dose of puns in one place.

Regarding Sins of a Solar Empire: I'm one of the biggest fans of the game, I wrote and published an interview that was linked on this site and I was at the damn launch party. There's no reason to bring them into it at all - other than to mention that it's fucking awesome and that everyone should play it. If you're suggesting that the video game community is more likely to treat games positively than negatively you clearly don't have much of an idea about the industry at all.
Ray, you've got some bloody cheek. I love how folks are writing off anyone who has anything good to say about this game as "lackeys". Frankly: up yours. Tastes will range from person to person and I'm enjoying this game.
I agree - a trial period should be opened to customers. Really, at this point I'd strip away the single player game, and give a trial multiplayer client for free. That said, I'd rather the developers continue to work on new content more than anything else.
It's time for this game to be re-reviewed. According to those that were there at the beginning it's very much a different game today and closer (not quite there) to what they were promising. I think that warrants a second look.

from comments and reviews?
Try playing the game.
Asking for a demo is a bit disingenuous - they're costly to make and they've got better things to do with their time.
It is indeed a fun game. Right now, it's a solid 7, maybe 7.5 depending on your tastes. I can't say much about anything prior to this as I wasn't there - but I have difficulty giving much of a shit about thing that don't affect me directly.
This is typical of video game culture - we'd rather tear down than build up. Sad, really.

xXBatmanXx - really? xX? That's the best you could come up with? Bit of a cheap shot, there mate. I'm just someone who bought the game when it was cheap and I'm shocked to see the waaaaaahmbulance pulling up to every little thing that happens with this title.

There are roughly 10-15 people at Flagshipped.com - disgruntled users that get off (go read their forums) on actively trying to damage Flagship. They're not all bad, but the guy who posted this - Agamemmnon - has a serious hate-on for the team and has started a virtual jihad against them.
Blue, you shouldn't have posted this. It IS old news and it was a poor choice on the part of the dev; you've just made life even harder for this guy. I've been reading your site for damn near a decade and this is the only time I've felt disappointed in a story.
The 2.0 patch on the TC is pretty sweet; new class skills, a new UI, lots of new bling. The game is stable, it's now had two massive content patches and is IS fun. There are so many good things going on for Hellgate right now - the devs have started official, uncensored blogs on the forums, user counts are up (I found the game about two weeks ago via Penny Arcade - and almost every other post is "alright, I'm in").
The game has quite a few detractors - for what were good reasons - it was a shitty launch and a very tough eight months for them. Things are starting to level out - that blog post isn't indicative of the health of the game at all. If you haven't tried Hellgate - it's $20 on Amazon. See for yourself whether this is a debacle or whether it's a damn good game. Me? I'm enjoying the closest thing to Diablo 3 that we have right now.

You're right on the money here. Blue, I'd pull this one - the guy is looking for ad revenue.

CE Availability in Canada |

Hi folks,
Not only did I write the article, but I also work for Best Buy/Future Shop.
Future Shop is getting 600 copies of the regular edition into stores. Best Buy is getting 500. Best Buy will also be carrying the CE (we've initially ordered about 50 copies) online only (shipping's about $2 and it ships out of mississauga, so it'll take about 3 days from TO to Vancouver usually). They should show up online by Tuesday.
Hope that helps, hope everyone enjoyed the article. Part two is coming - I just got back from the launch party - those Ironclad folk know how to party.
