To give a sandbox game purpose without scripting, you need a system of the world; rules that are followed by the players or the world itself

Good example: battlefield multiplayer. You need to take the point but it is heavily defended, so you wait for a tank and move up behind it, using it as cover. The tank is damaged so as an engineer, you fix it. You take the point and an airplane attacks so you hop on the AA emplacement.

Bad example: minecraft. There is no dynamic system of the world.

Seriously, why not just hire some game savvy people to actually play the games? Why such a byzantine method of rating? It's like judging a film from someone's written description of it, or judging a book by interpretive dance.

Jets did not ruin BF2, but you are right, a lack of effective AA did. There were no MANPADS, the AA vehicles were more useful as IFV's than anything else, the missile homing was wonky.

Speaking of which, homing missiles are BORING. Optically guided missiles are fine, but for air-to-air, cannons and proximity rockets are best for fun. Screw realism, this is battlefield.

It looks like something from 1999, only with modern-day graphics.

Someone hurry up and invent "the next thing after gaming" so gaming can be legitimate and respected.

Consumer choice can and should be allowed to operate so the so-called problem is solved by people voting with their wallet

What "problem"? The problem that this legislation would have killed before it was born?

News Comments > U.K. and Czech Arma 2: Reinforcements Arrive
3. Re: U.K. and Czech Arma 2: Reinforcements Arrive Apr 4, 2011, 20:29 CommunistHamster

There's Arma 2, the boxed expansion/separate game Operation Arrowhead, the two DLC's (British Forces and PMC, which are boxed in Reinforcements), and that's it afaik.

The two DLC's assets are included in the latest patches so non-purchasers can still play with people who have bought them, just with low-q textures and models.

Now mods, whoah, yeah, it can get a bit fiddly, but it's just a matter of making a shortcut that utilises the mods used on that server.

The pace of Arma 2 games means ~2 mins to do that is worth it, although I agree it would be nice if there were an external server browser that automatically initialised the required mods upon joining a server.

The "answer" will almost certainly be Half Life 3 or Episode 3 related. The only question is how does it get there.

If it's a case of the writer feeling like he was unable to do his story justice in a videogame, it might be good, or it might be dreadful. If it's one of the number of different scenarios for how the book was born, it's almost certainly dreadful.

You don't like wheels or wires on your mice? How peculiar.

I do agree though, the picture of this Warmouse on their site looks like an Onion parody.

A slower, more tactical 3rd person L4D sort of thing? Might be fun.

Fatguy, there are organised pvp battles most weekends. Due to the small playerbase you can't just drop in and play that kind of thing, you kind of have to arrange times beforehand.

Personally, I like coop when there's strong cooperation with voice chat. The real draw of Arma for me is pulling off a plan with other people. You don't get the same feeling in any other game.

If an alliance for something lacks almost all the members required for that something, is it really an alliance anymore?
