News Comments > Ships Ahoy - Sonic Generations
1. Re: Ships Ahoy - Sonic Generations Nov 3, 2011, 21:12 CommunistHamster

Played the PS3 demo. Maybe it was just the low framerate but the classic level was unplayable and lacked the signature pinball physics. The "new sonic level" I didn't enjoy either, some retarded boost button that catapults you several screens forward, idk.

Sonic was never about speed, it was momentum and level design.

Bugger off, get metagame and social networks out of my games (although I don't play CoD so I guess I'm not the target market).

But that relies on the community too much, see LBP for why that failed.

The tech was really impressive though. I hope they find a use for it.

News Comments > XIII Returning Next Month
13. Re: Game Reviews Oct 18, 2011, 03:55 CommunistHamster

I agree, thanks to cel-shading the original XIII still looks good today. It doesn't play so well (checkpoints, forced stealth, no ragdoll) but if it did then it would have been ahead of its time.

A good example of why artstyle > tech in graphics.

The zomboid forums are absolutely filled to the brim with dev ass-kissers, so that probably made things worse.

Persistent stats are pointless and encourage stat-building gameplay anyway, why bother.

3. Re: Game Reviews Oct 6, 2011, 21:28 CommunistHamster

We need a big push for games with extremely modest sysreqs (and that aren't pavlovs dogshit, obviously). Everyone has a laptop, everyone's laptop can play deus ex or age of empires, assuming you have a mouse too.

Back in the day everyone had a desktop, and sure, you couldn't play the latest games at the highest resolution on it, but they were at least playable iirc. The average pc used to be more powerful before 300 laptops came along.

Adds to the legal load of these companies, processing these letters, so I might actually buy BF3 now that I can get out of the lawsuit thing in the EULA of Origin.

Colonisation-type MMO's (Wurm, Haven And Hearth, Salem) are probably my favourite type of game at the moment.

I enjoy a focus on crafting and exploitation of natural resources (ie not "lol lets go raid the dragons den guys").

and increased player control (e.g., on-screen prompts with button-press sequences).

Apparently QTE's count as "increased player control", even though QTE's take control away from the player....
