But yeah, it likely will need Origin. Origin will also be the only place you can get the Special/ Collector's/ DigitalSuperFluxHyperElectro Edition. And it will not be on Steam. I'm sure Bioware just LOVES that EA got them shitcanned off Steam.
Creston Yeah, origin has friends lists that I believe battlefield 3 is using, not sure if battlefield 3's matching making is using origin in any way or not. I don't think origin is using digital river anymore (at least they aren't charging the 'extended download fee' that most digital river sites charge (nor does it have the download time expiration that most have as well). |

I don't know, i thought the lawsuit was silly until I thought about it from the other way around.
What if a game series was called "Scrolls" and then someone came out with "The Elder Scrolls". I don't think we'd be having the debate if the roles were reversed. (I could be wrong though ) |

Doesn't help me trade games I've finished off to friends, though. I have to buy it for the purpose of trading, or be lucky(?) enough to get free (giftable) copies under promos that others want.
I'd really like to see them add a trading/sales system for anything you have in your library.
^D^ ohh yeah, trading used games is another story, i don't expect to see that anytime soon, but who knows. |

*sigh*

You can trade games too. When you go to purchase a game, you can select "Store the gift in my inventory to send later". |

Yeah, not sure why the anger about the DLC. I can understand to some degree if the dlc was shipped Day 1, but if you read the article, they aren't even sure what the dlc is at this point, nor how big it will be. Would you be equally angry if they announced a $30 expansion that is equally uncertain today in terms of content?
Sorry, the article i was referring to: http://www.ausgamers.com/features/read/3076322
"We don't know what we're going to make yet, but we'd like them to be closer to an expansion pack feel." |

| There's a link to preorders, but it doesn't really take you anywhere to actually order. I'm guessing they didn't intend to put the website up today but due to the leak they decided to push it. |

| Usually the download editions of things require more space for installation (In the case where it downloads the install files and then install the game), not the disc copies. That is odd indeed. |

They are only suing them for $5000, not very harsh considering the crime. Also kudos to valve for obeying their privacy policy.
edit: actually it says in excess of $5000, so not sure exactly how much it would end up being. Regardless I don't blame a company of suing the person that leaked an early build regardless of whether it helped or not. Its the type of behaviour you would want to discourage. |

Cept money....a lot of fucking money. It would be very much like Valve at this point to focus on creating their own content rather than offering tools for the community to make their own content. Valve has become less focused on letting the community take advantage of these games and more focused on creating their own content to offer users. In some cases this is offered free as those mutations they did with L4D2 were, but ultimately they appear to be trying to corral players into their content rather than encourage the community to contribute and participate as they have in the past. Like with TF2, all those hats and such, I doubt you earn those on custom servers? So people are more likely to play official TF2 servers? It's not unlike how BF2 offered those extra weapons playing on ranked servers and the unranked servers became a ghost town?
Have you even played TF2? You can earn hats on pretty much any server (as long as cheats aren't enabled I believe). I don't think there even are official tf2 servers, i've never played on them at least.
Assuming this dlc is actually playable content, it will be free. Valve has never charged for this on pc, so assuming it continues (which is a good assumption with valve), you are arguing that they won't release an SDK so that they can make money by giving away free dlc?
All worthwhile content (aka maps) for L4D, L4D2, and tf2 have always been free on pc, and they have not done anything to indicate this wouldn't change for future titles. |
