117. Unsubscribing.. Sep 14, 2003, 16:45 Oblivion

I don't think that's correct, DrEvil. Removing the content does not disable your Steam account. On my first attempt to install Steam, I used my primary email address. This attempt crashed. I had no idea whether or not the account had been created. I tried again using another email account and the same cd-key. This one worked. But after a few hours, it stopped working. I then received an email saying "The cd key you used is already use. Get a new one and try again." I can only assume that my first effort actually created an account. I then tried to uninstall and reinstall using my primary email. I could then log in, but could not play any games. It would crash every time. I've uninstalled and emailed Steam to remove my account.

180. I agree CS... Jun 1, 2003, 09:10 Oblivion

It's amazing how blind fanboys can be. I haven't kept up with George's hype. But what I've seen indicates to me that he's always trying to put a positive spin on yet another setback or restart. The bottom line is this: This game has been in production since before Quake II. Is there honestly any reason for taking this long? Again, I'm not up on all of George's posts, but I don't ever recall seeing him own up to the obvious fact that DNF has been delayed by direct result of amazing bad judgement. Hell, as bad as Daiktana was, at least it was eventually finished. I think the question "Will DNF EVER be finished?" is a valid question at this point.

Thresh also happens to be an excellent writer and has a good handle on on-line gaming in general. I admire the way he's turned the rather dubious honor of winning a twitch-game tournament and turned it into a viable career.

Actually, it was a Quake tournament that Thresh won and the prize was Carmack's car.

6. A rather harsh statement... Feb 13, 2003, 21:47 Oblivion

Saying that Unreal 2 sucks is a tad harsh. It's not original and the gameplay won't win any awards, but the game hardly sucks. It just doesn't break any new ground.

4. Not every game needs MP... Nov 15, 2002, 12:09 Oblivion

How often do you view your favorite film? Does the fact that you can't really duplicate the surprise\experience of that first viewing diminish the experience? There's a place for single-player games. Half-Life was a great single-player expericence. So was No One Lives Forever and it's sequel.

27. Uhhhh: WRONG! Nov 13, 2002, 15:37 Oblivion

"The game rocks pure and simple. Those having troubles (normally)simply haven't patched the game with the first patch, are using illegal versions which won't allow you to connect to a server (the nocd.exe causes this issue btw) OR they have systems that run Half Life very well but are very low on resources."

These are some interesting assumptions. And they are just that, assumptions. The games runs very well on my pc. I would just appreciate a patch that brings the netcode into this decade. When I'm playing on a server with a 50 ping and can't seem to hit someone RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME, that's a problem. I'm not saying the game is junk, I'm saying it has issues and they need to be addressed. I don't think that's too much to ask.

2. How about a patch first? Nov 13, 2002, 11:40 Oblivion

Here'a an idea..make the original game PLAYABLE before working on an add-on. I realize this flies in the face of tradition, but hey, it would be nice.

40. Well said Xombie... Oct 30, 2002, 11:44 Oblivion

I could not agree with you more.... If we (or "they") elect to censor or prohibit media of any kind from distribution on the basis of it's "offensive" nature, where does that ultimately lead? Who decides what is "offensive" and what is not?

I propose that we let the marketplace decide. If you don't like the game, don't buy it. Let your dollars speak.

28. Re: Get Over it... Oct 30, 2002, 11:07 Oblivion

Your rather graphic example is missing one important point: The people mentioned in the game (I assume, I haven't played it as I assume you haven't.) are not specific. They are generalities, stereotypes perhaps. Your example was very specific. If such a game was produced that featured characters depicting real people, your point would be valid. My point is this: As long as games are not specific in the depection of individuals, what does it matter who the bad guys are? Someone has to be the bad guy. Someone has to be the villian. I am a middle-aged white man. If I took offense every time a MAWM was portrayed as evil or the villian in a game, novel, movie, or any media, I'd be a very unhappy person. It's not reality. It's fantasy.

My opinion.

Can't say I'm too thrilled about this one. The graphics looked good. But the control setup is awkward and apparently buggy. Plus, I dislike getting killed by someone I can't see. If they can streamline the control setup, this might be one to watch.
