Without overstating it, Tera is the best mmorpg I have played in 10 years of playing games including Wow(for 6 years), EQ2, AOC, WH, Rift, Aion, GW2 beta. The combat, especially the melee combat is fantastic, the graphics are incredible, animations are best genre has ever seen (both monsters and players), dungeons are very good. Poster who dismisses it as an endless grind is cynical and dead wrong. Even my wife loves the game, and she was skeptical after being burned by AOC, WH, Rift, etc. We have 2 lvl 40's and love it.

Just make sure you have beefy computer to enjoy it to its fullest. We bought 2 new computers just to play this game after we started playing it and loved it. There is your endorsement.

Trust me, the game is freaking awesome. Period.

I do agree with most of this and would still be playing Tera if D3 didn't grab my attention - I typically only have time to play 1 game consistently. Once I'm done w/ D3 I'll be going back to Tera until a better MMO comes out.

Tera is certainly a good MMO.

Wait what is this:

Your account...

...must have an active subscription or game time remaining.
...must not be banned.

...I see. So I have to pay to use your "free" transfers and by the looks of it a transfer for me would not be free either. You guys are so awesome bioware. Keep it up.

Haha you're stretching so much with this complaint that you're going to need cocoa butter for your stretch marks. You are so awesome Tumbler. Keep it up.

Oh well, I must be in a minority. I paid about 30 for D3 ($45 ish?) played a barbarian to inferno act1, a demon hunter to nightmare and currently running a witch doctor in normal.

Having good fun. I use the AH for the odd thing (hell made me buy more) but I always cap at 10k and buy thriftily. Not had any real issues TBH and even if I quit tomorrow then i'v had my monies worth.

Maybe some people dont like D3 or have issues, i'm one of the few who enjoy it. I wont be using the RMAH and dont care about uber kit.

I'm in the same boat as you; played my Barbarian to inferno Act-II, then started a wizard who is almost to Inferno Act-I, and then I'll go for a witch doctor.

You're not in the minority. You have to remember that this is bluesnews - where gamers come to cry.

Agreed. Forcing your beliefs on another is never good.

how would the children know about heaven if someone hadn't "forced" the idea on them already??

put that in your pipe and smoke it

Common sense has no place in this religious conversation.

Just getting some shit off my chest. Our little yorkie Lucy passed away yesterday. She had a little doggie version of a stroke and her equilibrium was off as a result. She could barely get around and obviously wasn't happy so we put her down. She had been blind for a few years which was really rough at first but eventually we discovered that her other senses more than made up for it. All the same I had a long 16 years with her and my GF and her daughter have only been around for 3 but seem to be taking it harder than I am.

I don't really know the protocol for these things, this has been my only pet and has been with me since I was 16. Part of me really wants to wait and just mourn for awhile but another part wants another little companion again as soon as possible. My GFs daughter is totally heartbroken and keeps asking when Lucy will come back from heaven, three year olds are adorable.

Start by explaining that there is no heaven - they're never too young to start learning the truth.

Aside from that, you do what makes you happy. If that means immediately getting another dog then just do it.

Amazing, this has to be one of the lowest AAA title, User Ratings I've ever seen on Metacritic.

Due to it being an online-only game, people tried to be heard by flocking to metacritic.

So yea, you can't believe those scores. They're mostly posted by idiots.

That is absolutely my No. 1 complaint about the game as well. In order to play on any of the fun difficulty levels you have to complete the entire game on normal (easy) once for EVERY character class. I was expecting all the online hassles, but I never thought they could screw up the difficulty so badly. It just about single-handedly ruins the game, it's not any fun this way.
Wait. WTF!? Easy on EVERY CHARACTER class? I thought I'd only need to play it once ever. How freaking boring is that. D2 wasn't that way I don't think.

I think his wording was a bit off... you don't have to complete normal with every class to play Nightmare/Hell/Inferno at all, you only have to complete it for that specific character. There is a linear progression, i.e. to play Hell you have to defeat Nightmare, to play Inferno you have to defeat Hell and be level 60 (max level). Diablo 2 was that way as well, and the reasoning is that the health and damage of the mobs are scaled up, as are the item drops (essentially the first mob in Normal is level 1, the first mob in Nightmare would be level 30). However, unlike Diablo 2, in Diablo 3 once you beat Normal you don't have to do the quests or acts in order on subsequent difficulties. For example I was just in a coop Nightmare game with a friend, we were on Act III, we were level 46-ish. Our third friend jumped in with his level 36 Witch Doctor who had only completed Act I Nightmare, but he was able to join us when we were half way through Act III. It also seems that our other friend got an experience boost as he caught up to us in levels fairly quickly. We finished all of Act III and he was level 43 or 44 while we were both 49.

I believe only Diablo 1 allowed you to choose a difficulty starting from level 1, but if I remember correctly you still had to complete the game on Normal with any character before you could play the harder difficulties.

Wait what was off with his wording? You're saying the same thing. You have to complete normal mode with every single character you want to play a more difficult mode with!

The first guy didn't say you have to complete Normal mode with every class before higher difficulties are unlocked, although it seems you think that's what he said.

Anyway.. It's still fucking ridiculous. Once I finished normal mode with my mage, I wanna play nightmare with my Demon Hunter, ffs. You guys absolutely certain this isn't the case? Rage is boiling up, you see..

I beat Normal w/ my Barbarian and went to Nightmare. I then loaded up my Mage and he still has to trudge through Normal - there's no option to go Nightmare.

So it seems you do have to complete each difficulty with each char.

Not going to use a browser made by an advertising company? That's a new low for the bickering on this website.

osx can mount and read NTFS natively

Read natively yes, write natively no. I think that was his point but it was just poorly worded.

For the longest time I refused to play into the cell phone companies hands. That $30/mo data plan required bullshit was only tacked on when smartphones started including wi-fi antennas, which allowed users to bypass the carrier. And don't even get me started on the scam that PTT is. Now that they've got everyone in their pocket, notice how the screws have tightened? I was without a smartphone for a loooong time. Then I did some research and looked into Virgin Mobile.

My Android smartphone cost me $125; no contract...I can upgrade anytime I feel like it. And for $45/mo, I get 1200 minutes, free texting, free 3G internet, etc, etc. And since Virgin Mobile rides Sprint's backbone, I get great coverage.

And yes, I sound like a shill, and I would be one if Virgin Mobile payed me, that's how happy I am with their service. I just point and laugh at others who are still paying $90+/mo the same service.

How does Virgin Mobile do if you have to provide service to a family of 4? My $110/mo feels reasonable considering 3 of the devices are smart phones.

EDIT: BTW, I'm getting the S3 on day 1. I've been waiting for it and it looks like it won't disappoint. I currently own an S1 with a custom ICS ROM and my old complaint is the speed of the hardware.

Yeah, I know. That's where they admitted it really had zero funding and zero progress back in October when they announced a release window and gave long list of platforms. There was no need to lie to people back then, and I don't know why fans would donate money right after they revealed that their first announcement was a sort of hoax.

It's good that you've never made plans anytime in your life and then had to change them. People might have thought you were lying to begin with, or the whole thing was a hoax.

You're defending Larry like he's your brother.

Is anyone an MMO fan who also participated in the beta and want to share their impressions? I won't have time to try this over the weekend but the website (content/screens/vids) suggest the game is quite polished and the combat is interesting. I'm wondering if this is reality or marketing fluff.

1) If you don't like MMOs, this game won't change your mind about them. Yes, the combat is different then most...but it is still at its core all the same MMO stuff. It sounds like you are a fan of the genre, but I am just saying.

2) If the whole Japanese anime art style bugs you, you will hate this game. Not because the whole game is anime, it isn't, it borrows heavily from many different art styles. That said, your huge over-the-top weapons, little girls in barely-there clothing, etc are all present and accounted for. If you are indifferent or a fan, then you're good to go.

3) The graphics are awesome for a MMO. Hell, they are pretty damn good for any game.

4) The "I actually have to aim to hit things and move to keep them from hitting me" combat style is refreshing. It will bug the hell out of some people, but they can go play something else. There are a cubic buttload of "tab-select stand in one place" games out there. I don't mean that as negative as it sounds, I play a couple of those games, and love them...but there is a certain immersion and skill factor that comes from a game that requires what Tera requires from its players. I find it to be pretty fun, and wonder why more games don't do it.

5) The quests are boring and unimaginative. This goes beyond the typical "all MMO leveling quests are boring". I mean, the quests I have played in the first 20 levels of Tera are about as creative as Amish porn. They are obviously there to simply carry a very basic storyline and grind your leveling process. Very little voice acting, few cinematics..and very little variation between two basic staples: A) kill X of these OR B) bring me X of these.

6) Speaking of grinding....thanks to a westernization type overhaul...this game appears to be relatively painless as far as the grind. I hit 20 in one weekend of beta playing very casually and taking many long breaks for other fun things like doing my taxes. Maybe that's why the grind didn't seem so bad..I was comparing it to my taxes...

7) The variety in gameplay between the classes is surprising. Traditionally similar classes have very big differences, even at the lower levels. I dig that...being as I like to play alts rather then stick to one character all the time.

8) I have nothing to say about PvP, I didn't do any. I also don't have enough instance experience to comment on that...I mainly solo leveled. Maybe someone else can be more helpful on those topics.

Bottom line, I am going to buy it and enjoy it however long it takes me to level at least one character. If the content gets MUCH more interesting in the later levels, I might even keep playing it...but as it stands, I see it as a 3-4 month diversion...and then maybe revisit it after it "fills out" a bit.

Thanks a lot for typing all of this up - its quite helpful. I wonder if there are other ways to gain XP (via PVP, crafting, etc) outside of the boring quests you mentioned.
