I dont get all of this streamlining, no stats??? Seriously??

JEsus this isnt an action game like Diablo3, its an CRPG. Stats matter. FFS they are the ONLY thing that keeps me interested to keep on playing. Because aside from a few more interesting quests, "go there kill 20 wolves" doesnt really interest me. I want to build the uber hero kick-ass mofo and I need customization to be able to do that.

Here is an appeal to all of you who are thinking about buying/preordering the game on day 1. If you like old-school RPGS that actually have depth. Please dont. Vote with your wallet, guys. Lets actually see if this game is actually a real RPG, before buying.

Worried

Yeah but - I can only actually see that if I really play the game. Sure, I could wait for reviews but I'm kinda psyched, hence the pre-order
Oblivion or Morrowind were, just like Gothic, never real RPGs for me anyway. If I want to play a real RPG I'll fire up Fallout 2 or something like that, Oblivion is more of an action-adventure with RPG elements.
So I'm looking forward to the game though it looks like I won't have much time to play.

Agreed. I'm playing BG-II (just finished Planescape:Torment) to get my RPG fill. Skyrim isn't going to cut it because the character development aspect is so watered down, but it may still be a good game.

I really enjoyed it when it first came out - then WoW trumped it. Still, playing a Skald and doing RvR was great.

Shadowbane is still my most memorable MMO.

I didn't bother to read the 70+ comments here (the complaining gets old after a while) but I'll assume people are having issues with this patch. I have an Nvidia GTX 560 card and all I had to do to make it work was remove the start-up options I put into steam for Rage.

Prior to making this change I experienced a few seconds of video lock-up every 20 seconds or so.

RAGE sucks and no amount of driver issues is going to fix the fundamental GAME DESIGN PROBLEMS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GRAPHICS.

If RAGE is any indication, John Carmack and id can just go over exclusively to the console market and PC gamers will not be worse off. Let's just face reality: After years of development id's newest game is so full of terrible design decisions that graphics issues are just the icing on the shit cake.

But I have to give props to Carmack for being so honest about id's failure so soon after the game is released, of course he can only talk about the graphical failures not the game design failures, they are not his fault.

This.

And the random "*shrug* I'm enjoying RAGE and everything runs fine" people should catch on fire.

Are you jealous? You poor thing.

Whining is what causes progress, fact is ID never again will be regarded as a good PC Developer after this, and Carmack nothing but a Quack when he opens his mouth about graphics technology, and the future of it.

Mega-Texture is not the future

Whaaaat? Rolleyes2

So Carmack innovates like crazy and is probably the most influential figure in FPS games ever (and graphics technology in general) and because of one game that was primarily made to make his company some money he's now a quack? Are you that boneheaded, really?

This is like that one saying: a man can build a thousand bridges but if he sucks one cock he's known as a cock sucker.

I'm usually playing 2 games, and nearing the end of DXHR it's like No Country For Old Men, and Rage is like Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

It is clear you've seen neither of those movies.

Glad nVidia is stepping up to the plate so quickly and helping their customers out. I am lucky to have had a pretty seamless experience with RAGE so far, and am honestly enjoying iD's newest quite a bit.. now if you'll excuse me I'ma go RAGETweak! ^_~

Agreed on all points - I'm having a good time. I'm 10 hours in and I believe I just finished the Dead City. I saw the review from the guy who played it through twice at roughly 9 hours and all I can think is he must really have A.D.D. or was trying to bull his way through so he could have something to say in his article. So silly.

Slow down and enjoy the game - it's quite good.

Yeah, nothing like dieing in the bad/dead city against a boss only to discover that the "checkpoint" was made when you entered it, which was easily 1 hour ago.

Laziest game design ever.

Many games only autosave when you enter a new territory.

You have the F5 button. Funny how you push 'lazy' off on the developers.

You know what cracks me up Dmitri_M, is that people are pissing and moaning over the textures in this game bitching and whining about indie games. But, they will spend hours playing Minecraft and not utter one word about how shitty those textures are.
well, for one the textures in minecraft aren't shitty. they are extremely low resolution. if they were shitty they would be washed out to the point of primary colour as rage is.

and yeah. you understand the tradeoff made between graphics and gameplay immediately as you play minecraft. you can root up the entire world and rebuild, add a shit ton of different crafted stuff all in online co-op multiplayer.

what has rage got going for it? oh right. a couple of long tunnels to drive a car through. corridor levels so locked down with invisible walls you can hardly fucking move and enemies that spawn in around you. congratulations rage, you've made a crippling graphical tradeoff to be just another fucking shitty jack of a couple of trades master of nothing console turd. the movement and shooting isn't even good. what the fuck have they been doing for 8 years.

rage is a bigger disaster as a game than fucking duke nukem forever honestly. fuck id.

You're really bad with computers, aren't you?

Terrible game! What a waste of a Torrent download.... hahaa.

Seriously, it sucks! Aside from static background graphics that are truly beautiful, as a game it is a JOKE!

Don't bother.

I disagree. The quest system is decent, the voice acting is very good, the graphics are so amazing, the combat is very entertaining. Even vehicle combat is well done and a nice change of pace from time to time.

Actiually that reminded me of the 3rd thing that kinda pissed me off...for the love of God, gamemakers: if you're going to let the baddies talk to each other, at least have the courtesy of having 3-4 different voice actors do the lines! I've been in a room where the bandits are behind cover, and I seriously can't tell how many there are because bandits, in the future, are apparently perfect clones.

Hello? That's a common military tactic!

Try the tweaks I posted earlier in this thread:

1. Create this directory: c:\users\<username>\appdata\local\id software\rage -- a cache file is supposed to exist here but the directory doesn't get created as part of install.

2. In steam, r-click your game, goto properties, and add the following line into the startup parameters: +cvaradd g_fov 20 +set com_skipIntroVideo 1 +set com_allowConsole 1 +fc_maxcachememoryMB 1024 +ik_enablesmoothing 0 +image_usecompression 0 +jobs_numthreads 4 +mem_phymemblocksizem 3072 +m_smooth 0 +m_rawinput 1

3. I downloaded the latest BETA drivers from Nvidia and installed them. The version is 285.38 - for reference, my video card is a GTX 560.

4. While RAGE is not running, visit the Nvidia control panel and change Vsync from "Application Controlled" to "Force On".

I don't know about the variables stuck in the startup command line, but the change to the beta drivers was MONEY. My system is running like butter! I'm stuck at the framecap of 60. (Admittedly, I had it turned down to 1024x768.) I was ready to let this game sit until I could upgrade my video card(s), but these suggestions have flipped the bit to "playable."

Awesome! Same for me - the game has been running smooth as silk since I made these few tweaks.

The rune system is essentially the skill system so that should work towards replayability. IIRC, when I used the "rune calculator" website, there were a lot of "abilities" available but only a few could be selected at a time. This indicates that you could have multiple witch doctors in the same party with different abilities.

Also, as someone else pointed out, playing each of the various classes will fall under the "replayability" blanket.

My understanding is some tweaks can be entered into command line so game starts with them. Tweaks that you do that with only have to be entered once.

Also, I bet there's a way to do a config text file and just run that one command every game startup to load that file.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure that one out now. It being id, I'd be surprised if there were no rage.cfg (or equivalent).

Also, did I see somewhere that NVIDIA tweeted that they were releasing a driver today as well?

( ( ( EDIT ) ) )

Guru3D posted this note from nVidia:

We'll be pushing a profile update for RAGE later today so if you purchased this game, please make sure you have enabled the NVIDIA Update feature.

Ugh... I don't prefer to have auto-updaters enabled in my system. I hope I can grab this manually - alternatively I guess I can enable/disable Nvidia Update but would prefer not to.
