The press preview build (beta quality of the first 8 or 9 hours of the game) was leaked to the Interwebs. I don't want to spoil it for myself so I'm going to avoid playing it much, but what little I have played... god damn fantastic.
You can probably find it if you're interested in a demo of sorts, but out of respect for the developers I'm not going to post links. |

It's something they can do at pretty much zero cost, so even with minimal returns for their efforts, it's still a success and a smart marketing move. They should have been a little less ambitious with the number of likes however. You want the target to be high enough that the campaign continues for a while, but not so high that people feel no progress is being made and forget about it. |

| Unfortunately the rate of likes has slowed immensely. Phase 1 will not be reaching completion, let alone any other phases. This campaign has probably served its purpose, but I wouldn't count on seeing many more of the unlocks. |

And I'm sorry, Verno, but they didn't go through all this much trouble with the Rachni to just not take the story anywhere beyond an email. I just don't buy it. Err where exactly have they taken it? In the second game I encountered a single NPC who gave me about 5 lines of dialogue related to them. Did I miss some big Rachni event or something? Looking at the "consequences" from the transition between games the highest impact I've seen is a missing character so far. I'm sure I haven't seen all of the possible choices so perhaps other people have seen significant changes? If so please by all means, lets hear them. I think the big thing you're missing is that this is the final chapter of the Shepard trilogy. There are still limits as to what they can do, in order to keep people from being completely boned based on their prior decisions, but they have a lot more freedom here. They don't have to worry about importing decisions to a fourth game.
The "emails" and what not were simply ways to acknowledge choices that were either very minor and had no lasting impact on the story, or that would not pay off until ME3. The alternative was to not acknowledge them at all.
It stands to reason that not every choice you make has galactic implications. But this being the final game gives them a little more freedom in what they can do. |

| I quit Cataclysm because they continued with the stupid idea of making people progress through the exact same raids twice, and making people wait 8 months between new raids. Also with the constant nerfs to the challenge level to make heroics doable for braindead fucktards who need to sell their computers right now, thanks. |

Saying Minecraft needs better graphics is like saying LEGO blocks need more polygons. It's a block-based building game. You can install high res textures but higher polygon count "blocks" would impact the gameplay directly and adversely.
In short, it wouldn't be Minecraft anymore. |

| The Beatles are a great example of social pressure. By saying you like The Beatles you paint yourself as some kind of cultured music fan, but when you press someone who professes to be a Beatles fan, they struggle to name even one song. |

There comes a point where you have to wonder, why do they keep trying to make ambitious games if they don't have the money or time to do it right? I'll take ambitious but buggy games over uninspired but polished games anyday. Fallout 1 & 2? Buggy. Planescape: Torment? Buggy. Arcanum? Buggy. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines? Buggy. Gothic 1 & 2? Buggy. Would I take Mass Effect or Dragon Age 2 over any of these? Nope. That's not really what we want though, is it? Don't we want to send the message that we expect some level of quality assurance done on our games?
There have been a lot of great games over the years that haven't been buggy. I refuse to believe that we have to choose between polished games, and good games. |
