Who the hell would hire someone like that? It never ceases to amaze me. Fucking suits basically destroy a company while getting paid an obscene amount, walk out with a golden parachute, and move on to do it somewhere else. Meanwhile, most people are lucky if they can hold on to their job for the slightest infraction. Tell me again how we're free?

I know you're probably just doing more of your usual hit and run ranting and don't want an actual discussion, but for the benefit of other people:

In the absence of any hard information showing incompetence or malfeasance, you can pretty safely assume that sudden CEO departures are the results of internal pressure from shareholders and other insiders looking for someone to blame. CEOs are scapegoated like a motherfucker in the corporate world, and more than any other consumers, gamers love to play along.

So, to answer your question, "Who the hell would hire someone like that?" People who know how the game is played and have been in this guys shoes before. I haven't seen any reports that this guy was incompetent or did anything shady while at Square Enix. The further you get up the corporate ladder, the more likely you are to be canned for politics, rather than for cause. People get their golden parachutes because while a company may have to get rid of you to shut some whiners up, they aren't going to punish you when they know full well you're just being railroaded.

Hell, even minimum wage slaves can tell you about times they've seen perfectly competent co-workers fired just because the manager or owner didn't like them.

It's really unusual that they've spent so much time and money basically redoing the game instead of just flushing it down the toilet. I wonder if it's any good now?

But a decade ago there was no incentive to abandon Windows as a gaming plattform. Now there is. The circumstances have changed. MS does no longer support PC gaming.

I really don't see any more incentive today than there was 10 years ago. Sure, Microsoft doesn't really make first party PC games anymore, but they've done nothing to hinder Windows as a games platform either.

It's still the best platform for making PC games, and will continue to be for the forseeable future unless something drastic happens.

Yawn. Steam's taking baby steps onto Linux - in a decade I wonder if anyone's going to have to care about Windows at all when it comes to gaming.

You're the second person to make a comment like this, and honestly, people said the same thing a decade ago.

Even if by some miracle Linux was to take off as a gaming platform, what exactly do we gain other than saving a few bucks on a software license every 4-6 years? And that's only for those who didn't just pirate Windows anyway (come on, who actually pays?)

You can already develop a game for Windows without paying MS anything, and distribute it however the hell you want, and there is an immense amount of libraries, APIs, and middleware out there that are entirely free to use, and the Windows install base is already omnipresent, with no need to convert people from another OS.

If there's something holding back PC game development, it ain't Windows. Linux at best is a sideways move, and quite frankly in its current state, a step backwards for game development.

This is the beginning of the end for MS as a relevant company, calling it right here.

So when can I call you on being wrong? Never? because "beginning of the end" is so vague as to mean nothing? Let's put a year on it. When does MS go out of business?

And Beamer, I'm rather surprised they even went with that big a HD. After all they make a fortune selling 60gb xbox 360 HD's for $90.

Since you can attach whatever USB 3.0 external storage to the thing and use it for anything the internal drive is used for, they probably aren't going to be making a lot off selling their own drives.

There's no crime in ridiculing religion. If you ask me, it's high time to do so.

Yep. People need to stop tip-toeing around religion and making excuses for it for fear of offending people. It needs to be exposed as the kooky fairy tale it is, and people need to learn that you can be a good person without threat of eternal damnation.

I think people have the right to believe in their kooky fairy tales, but I don't think they have a right to try to impose it on the rest of us via legislation and excluding non-believers from holding office.

The real reason Cutter thinks he's always right is that every time he is right, he points it out. Every time he is wrong, no one gives enough fucks to call him on it. Someone could literally go through his post history and list hundreds of times he was wrong, but he knows no one is going to waste that kind of time on him.

Plus, like you said, even a broken clock is right twice a day. If you say everything sucks and everything is going to fail in an industry wher e most things do suck, and most things do fail, you're hardly showing any kind of special insight. You're just making the safe bet.

So you're saying that Cutter is actually Michael Pachter's Blue's persona?

Alright, this can't really be Cutter. He's always overcompensated for whatever sad little person he is IRL, but this is reaching parody levels. I wonder if Blue can check IPs to make sure nothing shady is going on here.

MOBAs are so boring. It's literally designed for passive aggressive turds who can't handle a game with any real pace to it. The games go on forever, not because there's any kind of strategic build up or big grand plan in action, but because everyone just stands around afraid to engage because they don't want to get blamed for feeding.

So this is what happens when game studios becomes too big. Do they think that a game idea will not be financially good enough. they put that idea down. This kind of thing happened very rarely in the 80's and 90's.

It didn't used to take a 100 person team 2 years to make a game in the 80s and 90s. It still doesn't, depending on what you're making. But if people want diversity and high risk projects, they are going to have to give up a few things.

So, it's not too far fetch to conclude that backing off ridiculous DRM probably made a significant difference in the PC sales of those games.

I don't know. It usually takes a pretty big clusterfuck for even the average PC gamers to really care about DRM.

Look at all the people who bought Simcity knowing full well it had always-on DRM. The backlash only begun when it caused tangible problems, i.e. no one could fucking play, and was compounded by significant shortcomings in the actual gameplay.

At the end of the day, gamers are happy when the game starts up and they can play it and have fun without significant issues. They only notice the DRM when it doesn't work.

If even a PC exclusive from the "worst company in the universe" EA can get a decent number of sales with well publicized always-online DRM, it's hard to really put a lot of weight behind the "PC gamers will boycott anything with online DRM!" sentiment.
