Pyloff well... $49.95 a month. Could upgrade to 150gig a month for 69.95 a month but it's all a on peak/off peak system. Off peak is 4am to 9am each day, and the rest is on peak. so 110gig for 5 hours a day, otherwise 40gig for them.

I am changing to that, but it will mean I will have to setup my downloads for off peak times but yay... everybody has their own download software now and most don't have a system for scheduling so I have to use windows, which has it's limits =\

Cheers for the tip, I'll look into JA.

Ruff, I noted the "trial only server" which would only need to include the start area instancing. Also they can put in IP limits or similar for accounts, and make the accounts able to be deleted after the time peroid. Then again, a trial period would do.

I just miss demos =) MMOs don't seem to lend themselves too kindly to them, especially when the box price is the same as a Multiplayer game without a time limit.

Even a 1-2 hour trial on a trial only server would do. Too bad they rely on the same mechanic as a lot of "hyped" games in hopes the hype sells rather than the gameplay =(

One does get tired of the "demos take time to program excuse". Though I guess as long as they have easy street with hype alone why bother trying to please the rest of us. I don't want to drop $100 AUD on a 30 day test of a game I don't think I'll continue. (I work full time and do uni full time so time is limited)

I realise I can get it online cheaper, but at 10gig download (1/4 of my monthly quota, yay aust isps) it's a bit nasty.

I'll have to drop around my mates place and poke my nose, but I get the feeling it will be "ohh shiny" and get dull. Back to finding old games I missed due to being young and without the income to afford them in the past.

Any suggestions on RPGs? I've gone through Planescape (yummy), Diablos, Fallouts etc... Already. Looking for the more obsecure stuff. I'm currently playing Ys: The oath of Felhana (with english translation). Short game but a blast for fun, wish it had co-op to play with my brothers!

News Comments > Aion Drops GameGuard, Adds Oceanic Server
10. Re: Aion Drops GameGuard, Adds Oceanic Server Sep 18, 2009, 15:45 RenownWolf

I was actually half excited about the game when I read that head line, then I saw the server is still in NA. Waste of time.

Ohh ahh when in game the time is my local time... how exciting =\ The clock on my wall would be jealous.

Was considering pre-ordering (I know, I'm a mad man) but it just seems to much like any other mmo from what I see and hear. My friend has it and I'll most likely drop around his when it goes live to have a look.

Back to obscure games from overseas that haven't been released in english!

*edit: spelling error*

What is really disappointing is that no doubt Steam will block sales to Australia also (they do it with many games and sales already).

I don't pay retail for my games here in Australia at $100-120 at EB games per game and the exchange rate at $86US to the dollar it should be much lower.

Finish uni and I'm out of here, so far behind here in technology =(

Does anybody here play this? I'm rather interested in giving it a go but I have found the free to play games become dull quickly and to advance you tend to have to dump a fair bit of money into them.

The gender debate has begun! I love the response, very well thought out and direct points to counter her arguments.

Impressive indeed. I'm just glad somebody decided to take the time to stomp her (my opinion obviously). Humans are made of 2 genders, deal with it, we are biologically different and that's it.

Oh so fun =)

China is the next Silicon Valley, proclaims Symbian Foundation director.

I do love when they make outrageous statements about being the next coming of jesus, or rather the next place to create high levels of innovation.

Linux Foundation to Microsoft: stop secretly attacking Linux.

Paranoid much? Jeez, they think MS has their photos on the wall FBI top 10 most wanted style or something. Obviously MS saw no point in keeping the patents especially considering they themselves could have the "patent trolls" use them to sue them also.

All seems rather... "The world is ending!".

On another note, the Robotech/Macross games that have been released tend to be very sub-par aswell.

At least mechwarrior lived upto the name, remember getting the poverty MS Sidewinder without FF and playing MW2... played it so much I broke the joystick =\

They are also the reason we don't get a English release of Macross Frontier... fuckers!

Sigh... I love big robot stuff, all of it, but damn they know how to turn it into a pissing contest of who has the best legal BS.

Sometimes they need to open their eyes and go "Hey if we let them add them in for free and plug our product (Robotech/Macross/whatever else) we get free marketing!". Which works on me... but instead they go the other way =(

Space captain that's gold.

I could imagine writing a game story where a girl needs to be saved and having somebody like her write about it.

I dunno about her, but my missus likes the fact that I take care of her, and she can be a girl... Ohh ahh, some feminist would most likely give her some nasty words because she likes to do her makeup in the morning while I take out the trash and warm the car before work.

Everybody has their prefences in life, I prefer to change the oil in the car and she prefers to do the dishes and sweep the floor. Just because it's "stereotypical" doesn't mean it's wrong, and we don't need some creepy overly pc wacko judging us... ohh wait I just judged her!

3. Re: EA Maxis Layoffs Aug 26, 2009, 20:22 RenownWolf

Short term profit margins for long term pain =(

It just makes me so angry that the boards of these companies are so short sighted. "OMG Q2 profits are down, lets fire our employees so we don't have to pay them. Woohoo! Profit!".

Just like major companies reporting losses due to having to write down assets. I'm sorry but if a game company owns it's current building and lot which goes up in value, they have made ZERO profit and it should not be listed in their financials as such. However, it does make sense for say a property investment group.

Then again, back to my post in the Raven layoffs topic, depends what roles these guys played (contracts, casual, temps, or perm) and so on.

News Comments > Raven Layoffs [Updated]
8. Re: Raven Layoffs Aug 26, 2009, 20:03 RenownWolf

Space captain funny enough I always get in trouble from people at work or the missus about rounding up.

When I see "$4.95" I say "5 dollars", not because I want the extra money but because in my mind the 5 cents isn't of issue. Plus I like round numbers not 4.83 or some weird crap.

On topic, I am rather interested to know their terms of agreement, contractors can expect such things, full time employees shouldn't get the boot so the company can post a better profit, but the contractors do expect this. I previously contracted drafting, it was extended from 3 months to 2 years, but when their major project completed they offered me a choice to go full time or move on.

Plus alot of these dev companies appear to follow the Ion Storm mantra of "moar people does it fasta!", it's a nasty trap. I could go into business studies or growing and expanding and how it leads to that useless guy who comes in and does enough to not get fired (because the laws don't make that easy here in Aust.) but the point is, bigger isn't always better especially when it can lead to real workers getting the door.

Similar question here.

Do they mean winter in the first part of the year (january) or winter at the end of the year (I believe that's right for the Americans).

Really wish they would at least stick to a convention for games (all companies). Some state Quaters (do they mean financial quaters or yearly quaters), others state seasons (different areas have the seasons at different times).

Totally agree with you dude.

Best example is the game explorer for Battlefield 2.... it's so awful, so very awful.

Server browsers are awesome for playing multiple games, "ohh none of my fav bf2 servers have enough players, I'll play q3a/fear combat/bf2142/COD instead *click - servers listed*".

Quick correction, "think" =)

And on topic... Demigod killed itself with it's buggyness and issues with multiplayer. I don't think this will help people jump in for a new hero.

17. Re: DUST 514, CCP's MMO Console Game Aug 18, 2009, 15:01 RenownWolf

It's a game. What's wrong with instant gratification in games? And there's a monthly fee involved in this game...

This is excatly what I was getting at. I enjoy space games including the mining and missions etc... I-War, Freelancer, X series, Freespace series, Decent and so on. But when I pay a monthly fee to progress on something that will take me months to get any where rather bothers me.

The $17.50 per month I save by not playing a mmog I save towards my real life "top of the line ship" (see house to own). Taking months in a game that didn't cost me per month would be amazing but this is not the case.

Yes yes, it isn't that much money, but the money you save now leads to those long term investments, rather than my immediate happiness =)

8. Re: Wolfenstein Layoffs Aug 18, 2009, 14:49 RenownWolf

It's pretty common within the industry. Only, it usually isn't broadcasted to the media.

Unfortunately those who got asked to move on don't get the choice and they can't excatly moan and complain. From what I hear it's a rather incestial setup in the game development industry so if you burn a bridge it generally means other bridges burn with it.

Suits those who don't mind jumping from place to place once their main project is completed, but it really doesn't help their overall cause in the long run.
