News Comments > PC & Mac StarCraft II on One DVD
13. Re: PC & Mac StarCraft II on One DVD Jan 28, 2010, 15:19 RenownWolf
A downloader for patches would be fine, but using the downloader to share the actual games to others is a bit annoying imo.

After being on previous connections here in Aust that method is cruel to the general user as some of our major isps count usage in both directions (yep, up and down).

Ontopic: I remember playing WC2 against my friend on his mac and me on my pc back in the day. At least blizz does support them, even though personally macs are not for me.

Does anybody know anything about this? I mean inregards to what they were actually doing.

They appeared... did nothing and still haven't got anything to show, good 4 years or so now. That's enough for an FPS with it's own engine or 2 with a premade engine.

Eww intel graphics.

Built a pc for the missus parents recently with a intel mobo (they didn't have what I needed in stock so settled for the intel) which came with Intel onboard... First action, disable onboard video, install a nice ATI card.

Now they have access to anything upto DirectX 9.x games wise. Although they aren't big gamers, at least they have the ability to run it and also do HD videos without lagging the pc to hell and back.

Agreed there Grokk. I am an Australian with the same issue.

$50us, sure why not... $100au GET STUFFED!

With a rate of .92 to the us dollar I should be paying around $55. Heck $60 if they wannt throw GST into the mix.

I just don't purchase those games, I still can't understand $120 Xbox 360 games... I own 3 games for my 360 and that's why (I waited until these games went platium for $40).

$80 (around $60us last year) is about the most I would pay, but $100 bah!

Having a lady of the house tends to stop massive gaming sessions. Mowing the lawn, washing the pets, trolling the supermarket for real food etc... tends to kill those massive 10 hour play sessions on weekends.

Then again, if she's in the thick of it with you I guess it could be different. My missus plays, but prefers to watch especially in FPS's and Strats. Not enough good co-ops around =D

It reminds me off Sins of a Solar Empire matches... 6 hours for a good match, but I don't have that kind of time these days. I use to play Wow too but stopped. It was a massive time sink and I was always behind the curve because I was "casual" meaning I couldn't collect all the gear required within the time frame.

Sold all my characters in the end (I botted some, because you don't know what it's really about until top level imo).

Wow isn't a lifestyle, it's just a game and should be treated as such. I stick to short action games now, or a epic story I can complete on my own time. I never want the feeling of 9-24 people waiting on me to complete a task that is meant to be "enjoyable". Then again I work and enjoy that when working on a project but that has structure (9 to 5, 5 days a week) that allows you to live a life without giving up things that matter more imo.

Actually my copy of Fight Club has a pink bar of soap. I swear it speaks to me and makes me to evils.

Washing oneself is the truest form of all evil. FEAR THE SHOWER.

With MA15+ the way it is these days, you hardly need R18+ anymore. Too bad with games they are stricter than movies, at least in my opinion.

It's our own fault. Everyone who isn't a politician is getting drunk, high, playing games, spending money, working way too hard for money, being consumed with racial bigotry, having 4 wanks a day, hanging out at the beach or some combination of the above. This country is so fun that only Ned Flanders can be fucked trying to manage it.

Hehe. Actually a lot of the more intelligent ones leave the country. We don't have enough locally trained doctors, tradies or IT people according to the media.

His points may apply to some people, but I've seen R18+ movies as a kid (horror, action etc...) and I'm not some twisted nut bag. My mum's a nurse and when I was old enough I asked to see what she did, that stuff is far more scary imo. Old people with dementia scare the shit outta me not some pixel on a screen.

Or gangs of teenagers walking the street at night... they should be at home playing some fkin games!

Should google start charging for their os and have a large share of the market the same will apply.

I do wonder which codecs they will supply out of the box, and how soon before somebody adds more to their list.

Heh, watching through Voyager atm and often amused by it.

Just gotta love that they all have a science background on her ship. OMG it broke, I know how to fix that... sure ya do buddy.

I'd just like to say, "On behalf of all the redshirts that fell before me, it makes me proud to say the following sentence... I'm the only one who brought a gun."

Hehe, I can stay I knew what you were getting at.. I've read masters of doom a few times over the years (it sits next to the loo).

I must say nobody tries to make themselves a brand like that anymore really. There are a couple but that don't seem to be able to get people on their knees like Romero.

Ms. Case are a business expert... don't see it myself, but then again, me as a caring human being? stranger things have happened.

5. IGN - Why PC? Jan 9, 2010, 16:58 RenownWolf
I see a lot of their comments and such mention "setting up your system, driver issues, system config" etc... as a negative for PC gaming. I hear this everyhwere....

I gotta say though, I installed Win 7 64bit on release, Windows update nabbed the latest Nvidia drivers for my card (heck it even did my monitor, mouse, keyboard, sound, lan, and motherboard chipset) and away I went.... I haven't done SFA (well now I have my dev tools with VS 2005, DX SDKs and others).

Games that use DX9 come with a auto installer anyway, so that was taken care of as I installed my first DX9 game on the fresh system. I had all my steam stuff backed up and copied a folder across, installed steam into that folder and let itself update. BAM 20 games installed and I clicked PASTE once, and next a few times on an installer.

Where are people having issues? I personally don't get many, sometimes games are buggy, but that's a fault of the developer/hardware vendor usually (ie patch fixes it, or driver update) which is generally automatic these days.

** Actually just remembered something... issues with punkbuster for BF2... I always hated punk buster... they were so freakin slow with support for win7 and it required some hacky action beyond a avg user imo.

That's true Blue, just seems games to movies doesn't appear to work well at all.

Only thing that I really liked thus far was Resident Evil the first movie, and that's because I've only played the first game and bearly remember the story.

Raimi has got a good track record though. Do we know who is doing the writing?

InBlack... I got as far as "bring back Ash" and was all "Ohh yeah the original pokemon rocked!" then realised you meant the more awesome than awesome Evil Dead series.

After the horror that was the dungeon siege movie, I don't have high hopes for a Warcraft movie and with the Halo movie being canned I doubt it'll see the light.

District 9 has a great game style influence and I think the writers should aim for that as opposed to direct to screen attempts, create a new world using the other as a basis. Then again... Where are the god damn CG movies based on games.

Metal Gear Solid could be 4 movies by now with quality visuals and a addictive storyline (in my opinion). However, I don't own a PS3 and nobody will lend me theirs and hiring one costs a bundle around here.

News Comments > Valve December 2009 Hardware Survey
13. Re: Valve December 2009 Hardware Survey Jan 8, 2010, 09:38 RenownWolf
All systems I setup now are x64 win7.

Personally I am running 8gig of ram, but that's for dealing with playing with my dev tools and modeling work. I have to say it would be a giggle to try multibox WoW now that I have quad core and all that ram and a new video card (GTX275).

Before I was running a 7900 and a dual core with 2gig of ram, the difference can be felt now as I can run pretty much anything in the highest of settings.

Just seeing the stats is awesome from a development point of view, knowing what customers have capability wise and being able to target who you want. I'd like to see those with DX10 cards and win XP moving to Windows 7 and we might finally be moving to DX10 min requirement (DX11 is very nice, but at least getting to DX10 would be a start).

Then again DX9 is doing it's job nicely considering it's age, it would be nice to skip DX10 support and go straight to D11, which looks likely in the next year or so.

Ruffiana has it. The majority of MMOs give you access to what you pay for, not the ownership of it.

Think of it more as "I lease my WoW toon" rather than "I own my wow toon". Just like the company that leases the car to person, if that person then uses it for ram raiding the car company can take back the car and refuse to give it back although the person has paid for it for the next month.

Then again you've got that nutter who tries to sue sony etc.. for loss of enjoyment when he gets himself banned. Ahh litigation is fun!

I've been trying to get a copy of this for awhile (legit) and haven't managed yet. I loved BZ and only got to try BZ2 at a mates place but loved it.

Rather sad this never really went anywhere beyond the BZ series for a game genre mixup.

Too bad Pandemic is gone too, they are local boys for me too. Even was considering applying there when I finish my degree.

Blue, surely your not desperate for news stories, that you need to post something like this. I know its news, but gamers are sick of hearing anything 3drealms/duke nukem forever, especially a statement like that.

Don't like it, don't read it. Why waste the time making a comment like that.

Blue and co do a good job, and just because one thing isn't of your taste doesn't mean it isn't others so stop being so selfish and be thankful for what is given.
