They hotfix this game so much now. On a technical side it's pretty cool to see that they can make changes so quickly, but from a player side I'm sure it's annoying.

I don't play, but I think if I logged in say only on weekends and found that the game had changed again with me having to read up on their blog to see what they changed I would get pretty annoyed.

Whoa not a good trailer imo. The start is mostly just black screen which flickers in and out... No fade, just flashing images for 1-3 seconds, awful!

Graphics are fine, you have PS3 & Xbox360 to thank for their quality.

Actually it is said to be 30% for steam. 40% is more like a actual publisher with a boxed copy.

It's believed some games get different rates, but valve won't comment, and the others have NDAs for it.

How not buggy is it now? I'm curious to play, but don't want to deal with constant crashes and bugs.

My female assassin counter-part doesn't lose her own keys, instead she moves mine. I put them on my desk/leave them in my pants.

One day I woke up and went to start my bike... only to find my keys missing from my jeans. I spent an hour looking for them and was an half an hour late for work.

I only located them when she finally called me back from university telling me she had relocated them to the top of the fridge inside a container. WHY!!! The torture!

Anyway, now if I do lose them it's my own problem and she just laughs at me =\

Firstly, "It's about damn time".

Second, holy crap how many logos at the end! Must have been some outsourcing done for the extras.

Finally, hopefully it's fun! I haven't played a just fun FPS in a long time. Miss the old days sometimes! Now if we can get a remake of Shadow Warrior my days of youth playing games totally not suited for my age will be complete (already have doom and quake ones).

22. Re: Homefront Crunch Time Jan 17, 2011, 15:34 RenownWolf

I understand what you're saying now beamer. A little bit of crunch will happen with a set release assuming a couple set backs during production (common in the industry due to the random nature of art) while big crunch is indeed a failure of the project management.

In a perfect world, OT wouldn't be needed, but issues always crop up. Unless your stars aling and you get done early (engineering company in Brisbane just got a few million bonus for being 3 months early).

In the case of this game, disappointing, but I hope they learn from their mistakes.

2) When you're on salary there is no "overtime." You're responsible for getting your work finished, not being in the office a certain amount of time. It's a "perk" of being on salary.

Again, if the project manager did his job correctly and schedule correct tasks with the correct amount of time things wouldn't need overtime.

This takes me back to my first job in engineering... 8 months late and massively over budget. Changed companies and it was a different story, similar scope of works yet without the failures for every milestone due to project management (not giving enough hours for tasks).

I hated that job because of all of the crap, and I was paid overtime while on a salary. Then again, I was apart of a well known union and had industry standards to protect me. This is why the game development guys need to stand up and form a union and get on the same level as other engineers.

Crunch is a proof of failure to meet milestones which is a failure of the project manager.

Games are software... software engineering exists for a reason. It's younger than other engineering disciplines but that does not excuse it from the reality of systems and project management.

2 months of 7 day a week 10 hour days for all staff is a big failure and will cause massive burnout and create more issues than it solves.

Some overtime is accepted within reason, but this isn't within reason. Worked in civil engineering long enough to see when the person in charge has failed.

Getting tight lug nuts off is always difficult. But if you use your leg to push the tyre iron you can put in far more pressure.

Try putting it as level as possible and just step on it and apply pressure. Don't stomp or anything that could cause it to slip, and obviously do it with some decent shoes (better yet good boots) on.

I've changed 2 tyres, one in 35c heat and the second at night in the rain. Not fun =(

D_K_night you have proof?

I only ask because my friends who play say they can login as the Oceanic Zone or American which they got access to recently but still can't Europe.

From what they told me, you get access to 2 versions of the same game for 2 different regions, which they say means anything you did in your original region doesn't carry across (achievements, titles or whatever).

I hardly called that removed, as you don't get world wide access, only access to one more region at the cost of anything you did in the first couple of months.

Wonder if it has anything to do with Battle.net 2.0? No lan play? and all the suing going on.

Maybe people just aren't interested?

Even a lot of the custom map guys are not impressed with the b.net stuff. I think they were hoping for a better community setup, and chat rooms.

8. Re: New UDK Beta & Unreal Engine 3 Trailer Nov 24, 2010, 17:44 RenownWolf

The tools for UDK are nice, but unreal script is a pain. Rather than use a current scripting language they make their own which becomes useless for anything but their own engine, while other engines use scripting languages that can be reused across the board including software.

Also, pop in textures in all UE3 games is awful, it burns your eyes and kicks your babies!

If you watch the video they are targeting hardcore gamers when they are taking a break from their hardcore games with other games. They have found that the games they tend to play then are F2P games.

So there we have it... they are actually attempting to compete for the gamers time with themselves (he actually said when they aren't playing Bad Company 2 in the video). Insane!

Funnily enough this is excatly what blizzard have been trying to avoid. That's why you won't see a Diablo release with a WoW release or their new MMORPG with a WoW expansion release.

It makes me sad, I quite enjoyed BF2 (except... bugs, hacks, and that FRIGGIN AWFUL GAME BROWSER INTERFACE!).

Yes the price is $39.99 for us Australians with the current exchange rate it's the first time in a long time we get the advantage. Local retailers are asking around $60 per copy, while being about to get it for ~$42 aus is excellent.

I've been buying my games in USD for awhile now, as I find even when the dollar is around 80c to 1USD I can still get it cheaper.

Then again you guys have massive retail competition and can get it cheaper again.

The game is good fun, I suggest everybody give it a go. It's old school top-down, but that's half the fun when you need to decide where in your 360 degree arc you should shoot to save your life, rather than having to do 180 flips trying to see what is infront of and behind you.

Neil the creator is a nice guy too, he will listen to suggestions and do his best if you have a problem =)

They stay in business due to the Corp. world. I don't like PDF format at all, even worse when doing drafting they use to convert from dwf to pdf to plot the drawings... I've spend half my day converting on my pc, then the next half on plotting because it was slower... but that was the system they had in place.

When a section of the project was due for major review (thousands on drawings) being the person who knew how to do it right... I could a spend a whole week doing nothing but converting and printing PDFs. Adobes god awful pdf reader only made my life worse as half the time it crashed, took forever to load and ran like dogs balls.

I really wish they would find an alternative to PDF especially since half of the files are HUGE for nothing but text.

You're still at the top of the food chain. Working at a servo (gas station for y'all americans) has it's... moments.

Last night I almost had a heart attack when a customer exited his vehicle and threw his half finished lit smoke onto the ground near the pump. BAM! I sparks... I thought the end was near, but lucky it was just the ash falling off.

Only a few times have I saw the face of death due to others stupidity, but last night... oh it was a hell of a moment.
