Well, after Brink...

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars was their last decent title, but sad to say they've been going down hill since. It will be interesting to see if we ever see anything much from these guys after this title fails to gain much traction.

ET:QW was decent...yes, but not brilliant compared to Wolf:ET. Splash Damage is a one and done team, sadly.

I can't understand why they simply not just make a new graphically upgraded version of Wolf:ET? Everyone who played it liked it, and I'm pretty sure there is a new generation of players who would do it too.

It would be nice to see them throw in a retro multiplayer mode. Maybe give it a sort of quake 2 feel like the q2dm maps. It doesn't seem like it would take much effort with the engine and art assets already there and ready to go. Of course a proper team based Return to Castle Wolf would be even better but, I just don't understand the love lost from prior iD games with the focus of multiplayer and why they don't even attempt it anymore. It's been too long, throw us veteran PC gamers a bone!

I cant but agree. A modern carbone copy of MP in RTcW is one of my dreams. Darn what i miss that game. I mean, how many hours havent i spend on Beach or Marketgarden? Guess its more like months, years than days on those 2 maps...

This is just bs from both Bethesda and Valve......

Anyone who has been around for a while and played knows that the modders and mappers that are good are employed by game studios or begin to make their own games. There you have their motivations and reward for what they do.

I don't like where this point

i have something like 8000 games played in WoT and i can tell you the grind is cake up to tier 6 or so. you can get up to tier 6 in a week or less spending no money. after that it's a pain in the ass if you don't buy premium, but warships will be slightly different. in tanks, you're basically completely untenable if you're way undertiered, but in warships that'll never be the case because each class of ship doesn't really get larger guns or better armor as you progress, so each tier will always be viable and fun to play.

you should definitely give it a try cuz from the specs of some of the tier 6 ships i've looked at, they can be lethal.

I've played WoT since the beginning and feel a great disappointment how WG has let a superb game becoming one big frustration. As it is now, WG allow an almost non-existent learning curve, and as a player you can basically buy yourself up in tir. Problem with that is they will not be able to handle the tank they bought. Ti seem many players don't understand the importance of train the crew so they become really good, to give these tanks a fair justice. Often they come in General chat and complain and whine about how bad the game is...

Had WG made the game a little bit harder then had every player to fight their way up while learning how the tanks work and learn tactics need to be know. Now is the results fools, in tir x, that stand with the side against the enemy, or run around with fully zoomed in sight all the time... It's no fun to have such a player in your team ...

I'm afraid the World of Warships will be exactly the same as World of Tanks. Unfortunately ...

The next step for MachineGames is to make a carbon copy of multiplatyer in RTCW (imo best MP ever made), and provide the community with all the tools needed to map and mod. Then I would smile from ear to ear and be in heaven!

To be fair, the learning curve was too steep.

Nah, I don't think it was that hard. Ok, it took a little time to get used to all the button combinations (which I normally hate), but it was easy to save and then repeat until you succeeded with the critical jump.

I still remember that I often thought 'how the hell do I get up there?'

that's good! not every game needs multiplayer... if they spent more time on the singleplayer and the game is indeed 15-20 hours then the replayability should still be enough to warrant the asking price.

It's obvious that you haven't played MP in RtCW or ET (Enemy Territory), then you wouldn't write like that. These two are probably among the best MP i've played, and i know many agree with me on that.

The single player looks fun but I remember Return to Castle Wolfenstein had amazing multiplayer. I was playing the Beach map all day long!!

Let's hope they have an ace up their sleeve for us and advertise, after release, there will also be an MP. Beach map with new graphics would be the dream. In fact, all maps from Return to Castle Wolfenstein is so good that they shuld be released again.

What good is new eye candy when they don't do anything about the chaos which has become in the game? Unfortunately, alot of arrogant and selfish eastern european kids have ruined this superb game ...

I want you Steam fans telling me why the games various community flourished in good ol' days but not now? Then it came lots of new mods, maps, games modes etc, just because game developers allowed it. Now it's really not much of that.

Perhaps that is a good thing. When this kind of ridiculousness dies, and puts the people out of work who instigated and propagated it, a new version will arise out of the ashes and taking gaming in a different direction.

How do you know when a game is truly "dead"? Is it when an online game goes below n players or is it when the little group hardcore players have left and no one is there?

I know from own experience that games who have been administered and been housed on a private home server live longer because there is a greater proportion hardcore players who truly live for the game. Two good examples are Enemy Territory and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Enemy Territory was released May 29, 2003, and Return to Castle Wolfenstin November 19, 2001, both games are still alive and get new players who play and want to learn to make their own maps and mods.

This is whay it's so important a game isn't a F2P or is hosted on a dedikeread server, it must be allowed to live it's own life and not a company decides when it's time to shut down the game.

Of course it is and this smells fish long way.

Guess they are terrified that public opinion will force a law decision that it will completely forbidden to collect data about and from users. It would crash whole their business idea.

There are some things with F2P that I find hard to accept:

1) It gets darn expensive in the long run to play F2P. Why? Well, too often, these games have a restriction of any kind, so if you don't pay, you can't take advantage of everything. This makes the game (for me) loses it's charm and magic.

2) Because they want to maximize their profit in the F2P-genre doesn't allows players to be creative at all, in other words you may not have access to the development tools so you can make and share your own maps, mods etc. I personally think such is fun so why shouldn't I be able to get the opportunity to bring something back to the game and cummunity?

3) With F2P, it often becomes a stress or pressure to always get to the next level - it's one of the ideas in this game genre. They want to keep the player fully occupied so he/she doesn't have time for other. When do they think that you should have fun and enjoy the game? Good question, isn't it ...?

- - -

In the past game developers had a passion for making games, now it's just money that determines what storyline a game will contain. In good ol' days it was more like 'an odd idea' was better. Now doesn't the game studios dare to take that 'extra' step because they're so afraid of losing money and ofc we can thank the big dragons like EA, Id etc for this. They choose mainstream because they know that works.

Bah! I may be old school, but the games were more fun before in good ol' days...

Over and out!
