You're pretty mad there Porn. You ought to take it easy.

Go download CTDP 2005 for rFactor and relax a little. 2006 will be out soon. There's even MMG F1 2007 if you aren't a stickler for realism.

Don't forget GPC F1 1979 and Carrera's F1 1988 (both available for GTR2 as well).

Kunos and co. just released SingtelSim which has a pretty accurate F1 car, though the track it comes with sucks. You can just stick your NKP tracks in there instead. Word has it the 1.03 NKP patch (if it ever comes out) will have it in there.

You could race the F1 in Live For Speed too for good measure.

And for god's sake, don't forget about iRacing!! It's coming out next month.

We'll be okay.

ed: Oh, and I almost forgot. Blimey will be releasing their Ferrari Project (including their F1 cars) and Project Falcon in not too long and SimBin are about to release a GT-R Race07 expansion with a professionally done version of The Mother.

It was very depressing when AMD bought ATI.

I originally read that as "Furry league" and it made me blink.

Yeah, not impressed. Has too much arcade in it. I'm not asking for a hard-core simulation necessarily, but I would like it to at least approximate it. They ought to build a solid vehicle-dynamics simulation first (the tire simulation doesn't necessarily have to be fancy though) and then tweak it to make it more controllable on a gamepad or for those looking for a more relaxed experience.

It seems as though weight-transfer isn't modeled at all, nor is the balance between front and rear grip. It seems to boil down to your turning ability being just a function of your speed which is no fun at all.

I highly doubt this will be popular even with the people who are just looking for an arcade experience. It's difficult to control, but not in a good way. It's frustrating rather than challenging.

Maybe they'll get it sorted by the time the full game is released. In my opinion, this is a step backward even from TRD3.

The graphics are nice though, a little heavy on the effects, but it's pretty to be sure. I understand it runs pretty well on older hardware too, which is nice and a big improvement from Dirt.

ed: It does have an in-cockpit cam. At least that's what it defaulted to for me. I think I selected "lock camera to driver" or something like that.

Meh. It will probably suck but there's a chance, a very small chance, that given the subject matter Codemasters will be forced to take the realism a little more seriously.

This is presupposing they don't already take realism seriously and they just suck at it.

Anyways, this means there might be a PC version which is better than not having one at all. Not much better mind, but at least it's something.

ed: Unless you own a PS3. I understand the last F1 game was decent enough.

Given what it is, I'd rather see it released as an expansion. I would be happy to buy more COD4 'episodes' and I suspect that's pretty much what it's going to be. $50 for more of the same wouldn't interest me a whole lot. Maybe if rather than the six or so hours of COD4 they gave you 20+ hours of the same quality it might be worth it.

It does seem like they're just breaking out the industrial milking rig.

News Comments > On Mass Effect & Spore Copy Protection
25. No subject May 6, 2008, 16:42 Aero

Can't say that I particularly care. My only objection to copy-protection is that, if it doesn't actually work (which is almost always the case), then it's just getting in the way of the mature, respectable users.

If they can find a way to make it work, it won't bother me a bit. This is probably a step in the right direction although I'm sure it will be cracked as well. Besides, I'd rather have my games just authenticate over the internet than have to go digging around for the disk.

Online authentication is probably the only real potential solution. Disk checks and dongles are too easily circumvented because crackers have unlimited access to them. Online activation lets them keep at least part of the equation to themselves and modify it as needed. They should eventually remove the online activation requirements a year down the road or so though.

I would rather see a system that, should it fail to connect to the server, gives you ten days after that point until a valid re-authentication is required. It's a little hard to tell from their explanation if this is how it works or whether it needs re-authenticating every ten calendar days.

2. Re: Mafia II May 6, 2008, 01:42 Aero

I beat the race on my first try and never really heard about its infamous difficulty until later. I was using a wheel though which probably helped. I did have trouble with the very first car-chase escape mission though. It was rough being plopped right into a new game with relatively realistic vehicle controls and then be expected to escape from a faster car in an unfamiliar city, and at night no less.

The realism they were going for in the car's handling made them interesting to drive but, because they were such old cars, was also incredibly frustrating. There were cars that could barely make it up the incline of the bridge.

It had fantastic music as well. Django Reinhardt is phenomenal and it fit the game perfectly. The whole thing came together with a very nice aesthetic flavor.

Anyways, yeah I'm looking forward to Mafia 2. Which game six years ago had persistent city dwellers?

Sellouts? Welcome to motorsport.

I hope this game is good but I really, really doubt it. It's probably going to be another TOCA-esque not-a-sim, not-an-arcade racer and probably a poor one at that.

I do hope it's good though and I'll give the demo a try.

When the concept of physics engines were first being discussed they seemed like the next big step in video-games that would let things unfold more naturally and allow for genuine creativity in the way games were played so that the player wouldn't be limited to particular scenarios or solutions defined beforehand by the developers.

What did we get instead? Boxes. Wow, look how they tumble.

Either way, I'm pretty excited about this game. More than any game in recent memory, Ghost Busters has the most potential for a thermonuclear disappointment implosion. That's a good thing though, because it means it may well be as good as it sounds.

Even if the game play is average, the script/acting might save it. It would be a shame to have a beautifully written and acted script ruined by terrible game play though. I have no idea what to expect. I think the last game I played that was developed by Terminal Reality was Terminal Velocity..

Looks like fun. Some day soon I'll have to reinstall HL2 so I can try out all of these mods. Some of them look pretty impressive.

Comanche, even though it was pretty weak as an actual simulation, was the coolest thing I'd ever seen when I first played it.

How are we going to crush our enemies, see them driven before us and hear the lamentations of their women if there are no women?

I just don't know.

It's also possible that, regardless of which version is actually used, DirectX 10 will always be referred to as DirectX 10.1 since its release.

That wasn't uncommon before though I do have no idea this time as I'm not particularly concerned about DX10.whatever.

Never heard of it.

Looks interesting- I like the sound of the gameplay premise. The screen shots look pretty good too: nothing fancy, but certainly good enough.

It's hard to beat that price.

Yeah, I've had my eye on this one and White Gold too. I just hope it isn't another brilliantly conceived game that is totally ruined by bugs and poor performance.

Boiling Point was such a terrible disappointment only because there was a great game in there totally obscured by technical incompetence.

3. No subject Apr 10, 2008, 22:19 Aero

Yep. The trouble with this is that people that have never played SimCity before will probably play Socieites first because it's the latest. That will probably put them off the whole box.

SC4 is the only one in there I'd be remotely interested in, and I've already got that. SC4+ the older SC games would be better. Throw in an updated version of SimTower as well, that game was good too. Charge $20 for it, and I'm in.

Cool. I like Strongbad's cartoons, I don't know if I'd necessarily like to play a Strongbad game, but Telltale knows what's up with these episodic releases.

I still haven't gotten around to finishing the first Sam & Max season. It's certainly not old-school Lucasarts quality, but it's still very good.

I enjoy all of the Hellgate bashing. That's the only reason I ever click on these comments. I've never played it, nor would I ever play it even if it were good because it's not my kind of game, but I get a kick out of how much people loathe it and like to find new and interesting ways to communicate that loathing.

Good stuff. Keep up the good work!
