Borderlands is the best FPS in a long time imo.

You must be playing some other version. I found it to be repetitive, clunky and a big disappointment.

Did they ever fix the net code so no firewall mappings and other fiddling is required?

TF2 is still the best multiplayer FPS out there. Simply a masterpiece.

Funny, I prefer Borderlands over TF2.

Wow, different people like different games. Shocker.

I have to agree with ForgedReality. The fact that they only showed the console version really makes me shiver.

Everything I saw at Kotaku was the same way - the blue X was shown on the screen every time you got close enough to use something.

And we all know how great Borderlands turned out on the PC, with it's console roots...

Not that the game stood a snowballs chance anyway, but Gearbox was the last thing it needed. Oh well...I'm sure they'll make a killing with it anyway, so it was a good buy for them.

Oh? Am I not allowed to have a good time playing Borderlands on PC?

My personal favorites:

# Since the announcement of Duke Nukem Forever Microsoft has released DirectX5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 9.0c, 10, 10.1, and DirectX 11.

# The entire Geforce and Radeon lines of graphics cards are newer than Duke Nukem Forever, as well as both brand's predecessors, the Nvidia TNTs and ATI's RAGE.

This one's my favorite:

# The United States' entire program to put a man on the moon, from Kennedy's challenge to the landing.

All the campaigns and all the cities, whole universes, and we end up back in Neverwinter.

No kidding. Can we go to Amn, or Calimshan, or even Vaasa? Even Cormyr would be fine, there's a lot to do there, as generic as it is.

Someplace other than the northwest coast, just once.

Circuit City didn't "fix" anything, I guarantee it. They sat between you and the mfg's warranty system and that's it. And you could still have RMA'd it yourself if CC had refused to do so.

tbh the quake live service is a great on if you are in to quake; and its totally cheap.

Hey you know whats cheap? God damn quake 3. Let's see one time fee, Or you could pay forever(few months of premium and you could have just bought the damn game). And get laughed at whenever you mention you pay a monthly fee for a borderline ancient non mmo fps.

ID COMING OUT WITH THESE CRAZY SALES1!

I'll laugh when rage fails like every id related game since quake 3 and they cement their status as just a shitty development team inside the company that made oblivion.

Okay, once again, for the slow:
The QUAKE LIVE ‘Standard’ version is still free to play

Hmmz, I bought the first game because they promised it would merge into an MMO the next year and people who bought the game were not charged for it. I'm either missing something here, or we've been lied to.
Y'all keep using that word, but I do not think it means what you think it means. They may have intentionally made a false promise, or they may have just changed their plans, or you may have fallen for a bogus rumor.

Do you really think it's more likely that they maliciously spread falsehoods, sinking their long term sales for short term gains? Or is there perhaps a simpler answer?

Generally people LAN in organized gatherings or because they don't have Internet access. In the former situation, not every host will have adequate availability for everyone and in the latter it should go without saying. If you're going to bother with LAN functionality, it seems nothing short of bizarre to require internet authentication.

Honestly, the list of people who care about LAN enough to base a purchase decision on it is probably pretty tiny. I can't get mad at a small dev for not even bothering with that market segment.

We used to lanfest primarily for two reasons: 1, we were all still on modems or early DSL, and 2, it was a social gathering. 6-8 of us together for the weekend, games, movies, cookouts, booze. Prob have up to 20 people cycle through at various times. Now the internet is fast enough for people to just sit at home, and nobody bothers to get together any more.

I miss lan parties, but with everyone so busy it's hard to schedule them any more. Don't really miss the lack of lan support in games because of that. Sad to see it go, but there it is.
