Yes, it's unrealistic. But it's also fun. And sometimes that's more important.
Also, no one's going around hawking it as the only possible future for mankind, or even a likely future for mankind. It's just a game.
How some of y'all get through the day eludes me sometimes. Relax. |

Anyway, can you imagine the bitching if a Level Ten Shadowcat with an enormous engine and a few ER PPCs ran circles around a Level Fifty Atlas and shot out its knees? You could do that in previous MW games. That made it fun.
Somehow they'll work in an evade skill that'll magically make bullets not hit your giant walking metal target, and somehow your LRM skill will impact not only whether they hit or not but how much damage missiles do.
You won't be able to aim your own turrets, you'll have to wait 600 sec for the cool-down on your MASC, you won't get jumpjets until you're level sixty and have spent 500 gold Madcat Grist on the Flying Robot skill... I'll admit it, I laughed. Gawd that would be so retarded. |

| I got to play MPBT a few times, it was a lot of fun. No idea why they axed it, it would have been a solid hit among the fans. |

A 4/4 pilot could still beat a 2/3 pilot if he's skilled enough. The proper game has random hit location tables, which means heat management and correct use of terrain are key. Btech does not work as a twitch shooter, as the old Mechwarrior games have proven at least four times now.
Heh. First Robot Shooter. Although the mechs are more properly termed as armoured combat vehicles, not robots, since all of them have a human pilot physically present inside the machine. They're mainly bipedal designs due to the motive component, the myomer "muscles" that move them around. |

For those of you who are interested in going old-school with the "Btech MMO" concept, try:
http://btmux.com/
This is what MMOs were like before UO. Plus, they're closer to the rules than the MechWarrior series ever was. |

I can see how they might have come up with a "game that no one's done before", but the title... oy.
I guess they thought it was clever. Oh look, the caps and lowers alternate by inverse quantity. Oh look, it's the longest game title using only a single letter. Oh my stars.
That's the only explanation I can think of.
Personally I think they could have gone with "A Reckless Disregard for Gravity" and been just fine. |

The only one that did nighttime right was WWII Online, and even they've gone puss now. Used to be night was FUGGIN DARK, and you'd be lucky to see stuff moving around even if you caught them on a horizon.
Was great for infantry, but too many people whined, so now I'm not even sure you can tell when the sun goes down - like every other mmo. |

Um... Because it was still in development. You don't intentionally let loose details until you're sure they're all nailed down. There are many reasons for this; most notably because they may not be finalized, and you don't want to misrepresent your product.
Humor. It's clearly not for everyone.

How is it that we're seeing more screenshots and video now that the game is cancelled and the studio shut down than were released while it was still in development? Was DNF that much of resource sink that it warped space and time?
Next thing you know we'll find out Lister and Rimmer were on the dev team. |
