2. Re: WoW Mount Tweak Plans Jun 12, 2009, 04:45 JohnBirshire
I'm not a huge fan of the 1.5 second mount speed whatsoever. I think the reason for doing it "to increase leveling speed, wtf?" makes no sense whatsoever. Just gives people an even greater opportunity to take off the second they see trouble coming on PvP servers.

13. Looks promising... May 21, 2009, 00:16 JohnBirshire
AVP2 was a blast multiplayer, trying to get the drop on players while playing the Alien was some of the best stealth action I've yet to play in any game.

Off topic, I'll just pretend I didn't see someone in this thread actually complaining about being able to save your game at anytime. ?!?! And another one talking down Warcraft 2 and 3...WTF is going on?! Some Twilight Zone crap going on in this thread.

fireworks, a screenshot contest, and adding an additional character slot

If this game gets any more generic, it won't have nearly as many subscribers as they thought it...oh, wait, nevermind.

15. Scam May 9, 2009, 12:35 JohnBirshire
DNF was never going to come out. These individuals knew that years ago, but still wanted to have a job to come to everyday so they could continue to collect a paycheck. *so they kept the illusion alive* They all knew that eventually their funding would run dry and this day would come. We got conned, investors got conned out of millions...and nobody seems to be complaining. Good job 3D Realms, it worked!

Good publicity stunt. Nobody would be talking about this low budget POS game about base jumping if they didn't name it AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!!

5. Stacking, etc... Apr 19, 2009, 14:37 JohnBirshire
I played for the first two months of retail, ended up quitting the day we got in a fight with another guild of 70+ people named "Qasdfhgash", "Qasdfhgasn" "Qasdfhgasm" "Qasdfhgasv", etc....all stacked on top of each other occupying one space. It was single-handedly the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen in an MMO at that point in time. Once I realized this was going to be the preferred method of large scale PvP combat, adios.

Does the demo require you to sell your soul to play it, or is that just the full version?

16. Irony? Apr 16, 2009, 00:55 JohnBirshire
Jack Thompson stated "As disturbing as the image is, it's something an adult ought to be able to handle looking at"...

Kind of ironic, considering he's doing everything in his power to try and criminalize games, so that adult's CAN'T look at them.

Add hypocrisy to his growing list of character traits.

1. Final Boss, Bill Roper Mar 31, 2009, 12:33 JohnBirshire
I wonder what they are going to make the game's main villain look like, Bill Roper. That has GOT to be why they hired him!

iconic techniques and moves stolen directly from other films — such as “Curving Bullets” and “Assassin Time”

As a sidenote, "uber" is funny. At least their press releases don't say "award winning!"...yet.

The game's main super villain will be The Fat Greedy Bastard, although the game doesn't know that yet.

Haha! Finally, the reason why they hired Bill Roper has been revealed!

News Comments > On Indie Sales
12. Re: On Indie Sales Mar 18, 2009, 17:23 JohnBirshire
Easier said than done. Steam look at your game and decide if they like it. uif they don't you are stuffed. Its not like its an open platform. Steam sells games that Valve like, its not a simple matter of asking to be listed there.
Stardock and GamersGate stock my games, but Valve don't. They have never told me why.
There are tons of good indie games like Lux and Masters Of Defense which are not sold on steam, and likely never will be.

Yep. Another thing for the Steam fanboys to think about when acting like Steam is the messiah of PC Gaming's future.

As for Spiderweb Software's Geneforge games, they are tremendously fun. Anybody that likes RPGs with an "old school" feel will enjoy them. I can say however that I agree with an earlier poster who believed the prices should be lowered, for an Indie game the price is leading many people away.

11. Cluncky combat? Mar 17, 2009, 22:09 JohnBirshire
I played WAR for a couple weeks, but the combat didn't seem to "flow" very well. Hard to explain, but almost as if it was choppy, like a turn based game trying to act in real time.

There even seemed to be an inherent delay between using an action and seeing it play out, only of perhaps a few tenths of a second or so, but noticeable nonetheless.

This still the case?

P.S. I never got that impression from WoW, always seemed to be very fluid motion and controls.

I played this demo over the weekend & it was WEAK!

Haha, I did too. The videos make the game look awesome, but then when you start playing you realize that most of the stuff in the videos is either scripted or simply not happening under your direction control. Like when your character makes a very cool looking running/sliding dive under bullets into cover...but all you did was press the "x" button five seconds earlier.

I found the Doom movie to be worth seeing once, it wasn't the disaster that most people seem to make it out to be. I don't know why Rock is talking down about it, it isn't like his other movies are spectacular in any way and this one is bringing his career down.

25. Re: F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin Patched Mar 15, 2009, 11:33 JohnBirshire
Oh, so this is one of those "I'm bitter because consoles control the industry" things. I get that, but I'm objective enough to realize a tiny little black bar on my huge monitor is not really an issue. For 4:3 owners it was, and hey look, it got patched.

Uhhh, no. It was my "I'm not buying the product because the console port doesn't properly support the PC version" post.

Then you come around trying to defend their decision, which is completely and utterly illogical. "The little black bars shouldn't bother you" is probably one of the more ridiculous arguments I've seen in quite some time. They shouldn't be there, period. You can argue about it all day, but in the end you'll still always be wrong. *whether you would ever admit it or not is irrelevant, you'll still respond indefinitely*

Because those tiny little smidgens of black bars are just so epic in their torture, right?

Ahh, you are right. PC Gamers shouldn't expect console ports to actually support a resolution that many PC Gamers will be using. Especially not on a sequel to a game that was widely and faithfully supported by PC Gamers.

I mean, if games that came out 9 years ago like Quake 3 supported 16:10, 16:9, 4:3, etc, it is entirely out of line to expect the same support in a brand new game, right?

Little black bars? Nothing that simply can't be ignored. After all, we should simply be grateful that they even decided to release it for the PC! Oh thank you, our console overlords!
