The reviews for this game are mediocre.. |

I bet money, despite what they say now, that they do a PC version in the future just to "milk" the game a little more.
When this game is getting C- *average* reviews after they hyped this game to death you know that someone, somewhere, has got to be worried about sale's numbers.
We'll see it on PC. Whether they'll sell enough copies to make it worthwhile is another story.

1105 minute queue at Fileplanet... |

I got my beta key and registered it, however...
1105 minute queue at Fileplanet, which is like what, over 18 hours? And that is just to START the 9 gig download. I was in line twice already, and Fileplanet's US East Coast server went down, dumping me to the back of the line both times. After *if* you get it, you have to patch, which I hear through the grapevine is like 20k per second. The only other option I see at this point is BT, which I hear people with 20 meg download connections are getting like 5 meg per second with.
Looks like I'll be sitting this one out.

I actually enjoyed Fable... |

for the first four hours I played.
However, when I was done for the night, I quit playing...and then the next day I started playing again, and roughly 2 hours of my work was gone! I was literally having to repeat parts of the game, talking to NPCs, etc because of the "console inspired" save system. I don't remember correctly what it was, but it was some kind of a "checkpoint" system where you had to progress past a certain part of the story before it saved properly. Sorry, but that doesn't work for us hardcore PC gamers. Unfortunately, I had to toss the game on Ebay the next day.
But anyways.......why are we talking about Fable?! Uhh, maybe he reviewed it because Fable 2 is set to be released soon. Only thing I can think of.

First reviews for Force Unleashed... |

75% from Nintendo Power.
71% from the official XBox 360 magazine.
The fact that these sources are often accused of being biased in their system game's favor is a scary thought as to how mediocre this game is actually going to be.

The Force Unleashed is already getting mediocre reviews, two weeks before the game is released in stores. And they are proclaiming that they fulfilled the high bar they set? Phsstt, media spin, here we go again!
P.S. Tie Fighter, what a glorious game that was, I haven't played a PC game in the last 10 years that was nearly as fun as the games that were released the previous 10 years before this period.
Star Wars Galaxies was a pile of garbage. - Dagok SWG wasn't good before the NGE either... - Prophet
Exactly! I always find it ironic that people are always talking about how awesome SWG was before the NGE changes. Wake up! SWG was never any good! The game was a failure with subscribers even before this, which was the reason for those changes in the first place. Yes, the changes were a disaster, but they were made in an attempt to attract players back to an already failing game.

*preorders Red Alert 3, gets magical bear helm, cancels preorder*
I just summarized what 95% of the people that take advantage of this promotion will do.
I'd do it myself, but I have no interest in illusion items whatsoever. Nothing more aggravating that everybody running around in WoW looking like a skeleton, ogre, pirate, santa's helper, etc. Looks like we get to look forward to it with Warhammer as well!

"Game finished", released months later.. |

I remember Troika stating this game was finished months before it was released. They couldn't release the game because it used the Source-engine until after the release of Half-Life 2. Which, ironically, makes the fact that it was released in a condition that requires bug fixes years later even more ridiculous.

That Clear Sky review... |

Kind of destroyed any incentive I had to play it.
I'll wait on a few more American press reviews though, I noticed even with the first game that some of the European reviews were a little biased in the game's favor. *especially near the Ukraine*

I wish they would give Druids a new animal model when they hit level cap. It's so uninspiring when you shapeshift that you look the exact same as someone who has just acquired the form.
I agree with you 100%, this is the sole reason why I stopped playing my druid a few years ago. I never understood the point of their being several awesome looking armor sets that took countless hours of high tier raiding to collect...if you are going to be in animal form and look just like a level 40.

Wow, I expected a response, but not necessarily this one.
:-)
Classic, btw.
P.S. I guess this is what some politicians and people like Jackoff Thompson are talking about when trying to blame video games for violence, while stating that some people can't tell the difference between movie or video game media and reality. I guess in some insignificant way...they may be slightly right. :-P

John gets called a griefer asshole a couple days ago, now he's a carebear.
That's the bluesnews.com community for you!
A few days ago someone was saying that I have an evil wicked heart or something of that nature and should be out raping women...all because I killed too many other players when playing Asheron's Call. Fast forward a few days and I'm being called a carebear, haha!
Just another day right? Glad you caught that, :-)

He's a realist.
Thank you! Sometimes people get angry when you don't hop on bandwagons, support something just because many other people do, or if you play devil's advocate. I appreciate you recognizing it however, :-).

John please go back to WoW you carebear
Whoa whoa whoa whoa, hold on there! Don't refer to me as a "carebear" because your reading comprehension is crap!
I in no way whatsoever was insulting Ultima Online in any way, shape, or form. I played UO off and on for 10 years! I led the top of the bounty boards between 97-99 on Lake Superior and Great Lakes, and was one of the more feared Player Killers on Siege Perilous when it was opened, so I'd have to argue tremendously against your "carebear" assessment.
Now that being said, I was saying that Darkfall, like Shadowbane before it, was being toted as the game all of us old school UO players were waiting for, aka the "messiah" of MMOs.
How you took this to mean I was insulting UO is beyond me!

The new Shadowbane.... |

For the last several years I've had to hear about how this game was going to be the messiah that all of the "old school Dread Lords of Ultima Online" have been waiting for! *just like I had to listen to with Shadowbane hype for years*
All my money is on this game delivering nothing of it's promises and failing miserably. *although with a solid niche market of roughly 10,000 diehard fanboys*
Next!

True point... |

Mark Jacobs has a good point about trying to compete with World of Warcraft, the fact that it has had 3 years of additions added on top of the original game.
Many people criticize other MMOs for not having the content that World of Warcraft has when they are released. I'm not sure where these same people were when World of Warcraft came out, because there was absolutely nothing to do at that time. I got to level 60 in two weeks, twiddled my thumbs for another week with nothing to do but camp for Krol Blades or ping pong back and forwardth all day long between Tarren Mill and Southshore, then started making new characters for lack of anything else to do. There were no battlegrounds. There were no high level raids. There were no tiered armor sets to collect. There were no arenas. Etc etc etc. This stuff wasn't added until World of Warcraft already had the finances behind it of an extremely successful franchise.
Nowadays MMOs are expected to be released with more content than WoW has now, which spent what amount of time, 4 years *conservatively* in development?... plus another 3 years where most of what there is to do in the game now was added? By a team as large and reputable as Blizzard! And the concensus is that new MMOs should not only match, but exceed WoW? Puh lease! The only thing that is going to bring WoW down, is time. Not graphic evolution, not a different MMO, not any other factor.

But come on, they aren't perfect. I had to stop playing Sins of a Solar Empire because I didn't feel as if I should have to register a single player game online and login to their servers just to simply receive patches or updates.
I like how they have branded themselves as the champions of PC Gamer rights...but no, you aren't quite there yet.
Sorry for not jumping on the bandwagon.
