News Comments > DC Universe Online Luring Back Legendary Members
1. Names... Dec 18, 2013, 19:10 JohnBirshire

The biggest mistake they made is unique names. Your super hero's name is extremely important, look at any iconic superhero, and their name fits their persona and abilities. I wanted to make a fire/martial arts character named Third Degree. It was the perfect name...third degree burns, third degree black belt. Taken. On the first day. On every single server. Even Cryptic found an easy way around character names with Champion Online with everyone getting any name they chose, if Cryptic can manage it, anybody else should. Epic fail.

The way bitcoin works is actually quite revolutionary, if you look at it with an open mind you will be quite amazed. *I made the mistake of blowing it off as a completely joke when it was new* Digital/virtual currencies are going to change the way money is transferred around the world dramatically in the next decade. As to whether Bitcoin sticks around is another story, being first to market is advantageous, however betting on "round one" of something new is always a gamble.

Virtual currency, here to stay. Bitcoin, may or may not be, if you buy it now and it does, you will make a lot of money, if you do and it doesn't, there it goes.

5. Re: Black Friday Metaverse Nov 29, 2013, 13:44 JohnBirshire

I have been really depressed the last couple days, to the extent that I haven't been able to sleep. I looked at bitcoins a year and a half ago, and saw that they were "mined" using processing power. I then Iooked online and saw 100's of people buying mining equipment and figured with more people mining, and more processor power being used, people would just keep making more and more of them, and they would be worthless. So I thought better of it, and moved on. If I had JUST seen that there were only a FIXED amount that COULD be mined, if I had just read that one sentence, I would have gambled $10,000 on them in a heartbeat, and been a millionaire today. If I had spent 15 minutes researching bitcoin instead of 10, I could have retired. So dissapointed in myself right now, and I also found a forum post with 100's of people with similar stories.

Are they a bubble? Of course. But bubbles are fine if you make money before they pop, but I think we missed our chance.

27. Every sale, same games... Nov 27, 2013, 17:36 JohnBirshire

Sleeping Dogs, Terraria, Skyrim, Walking Dead, Left 4 Dead, Crysis 2, it's always the same exact games on sale every time, nothing new.

Names are important, if you look at almost all iconic franchises, they also have iconic names. Kingdom of Amalar? Seriously? There is your mistake right there.

People who thinks PC games are "Free to Play" are casuals at best. You might be able to demo or sample a lot of the game, but if you want to do anything endgame related, you better start paying up.

11. Why do people make a big deal about this? Nov 22, 2013, 12:31 JohnBirshire

I don't understand the hype as to why people make a big deal out of this stuff. Of course there is going to be a Fallout 4, thats a super obvious "duuuhhh".

I still play WoW. Trust me, I have played everything that has come out since then, Warhammer, Age of Conan, Secret World, Darkfall UW, DC Universe, that four letter one that starts with an R, SWToR, etc, and not a single one even came close to meeting expectations. I am not hardcore to the point of not playing anything else, I also play Chivalry, B4, and SC2, but as far as MMOs go, it is still unfortunately?? The best one.

News Comments > Warcraft and Warcraft II Coming to Modern PCs "In Some Form or Fashion"
19. Both work fine now, remaster them? Nov 11, 2013, 14:15 JohnBirshire

I replayed both about a year ago for nostalgia, had no problem whatsoever with them. They work fine now. If they want to "remaster" them with some updates, more modern UI's, widescreen support, etc, great! But just "making them work" is unnecessary.

28. 8.5 review average... Oct 29, 2013, 13:49 JohnBirshire

Game has a 8.5 average, meh. That's just mediocre as far as these games are concerned, doesn't motivate me to run out and buy it at all.

3. Star Wars... Oct 25, 2013, 00:03 JohnBirshire

Being able to reserve a name so that nobody else can ever use it is asinine, multiple MMO's have created easy solutions to prevent this discrepancy. Then again very little of what Bioware did in this MMO made any sense.

Utterly unimaginative and generic name.

4. Re: Guild Wars 2 Extended Free Trial This Week; Patch Next Week Sep 24, 2013, 14:49 JohnBirshire

Well when the game has no subscription, offering it at a huge discount doesn't make a lot of sense.

It is a fun game up to 80, then quickly gets stale. The quote unquote "raids" are nothing more than your zerg doing as much damage as possible, and the World vs World is just more zerging, trying to destroy doors. It is fun up to 80, they did a good job with the areas and the questing, but then you pretty much run into a brick wall.

I don't understand why Gabe is so fat. If I was a billionaire I would be exercising everyday, hoping to live longer. Not be a billionaire with a life expectancy of 5 more years.

I played the older MechWarrior games long ago, so was curious about this one. However, after watching numerous videos, it looks to be incredibly repetitive. Are you not just doing the same thing over and over again indefinitely?

This is simply too late, would have been a better outcome and generated a lot more interest if they didnt wait until so close to the next ones release.

4 vs 4 PvP sounds great, I have always liked smaller battles where individual player skill has a more significant impact on the outcome. Might start playing again.

Kind of had to laugh at the "If you pay, you get the expansion for free" statement though. All these "Subscription games are dead, F2P is the future!!!" fanbois continue to ignore the fact that the overwhelming majority of F2P games are only free if you want to be a noob indefinitely. Should be called F2D, or Free 2 Demo.

Whenever I want to buy an older game, I check GoG first, then Steam. I like to support GoG because without them, a lot of older games wouldn't be available for purchase.
