I'm all for sequels sticking true to the originals especially today where old franchises are butchered, but this seems so close to be a near remake of the first.

At least it's not as bad as requiring Steam. If something goes wrong with steam's automatic updates when you launch a game, there's simply no way to play it. In theory Steam has an offline mode, but you have to be LOGGED IN ONLINE to switch to offline mode.
