The first of the series was so amazingly good that the community couldn't do anything but whine about the sequels. Tribes 2 isn't the same game since it is more vehicle/team-oriented and slow overall. And T:V was even more different. I guess what the community wanted was the exact same game with the glitches worked out and better graphics.
If you haven't liked Tribes, maybe you have not understood all the gameplay mechanics? It has lots of depth and it is definately not newbie-friendly (Tribes had different aim mechanics such as projectile vectors are relative to the player, and it has ski, which is not in any other game). Getting completely destroyed for months by veterans in-game isn't exactly fun after all.
