I remember I had only enough money from my Taco Bell job to buy either C&C or Creature Shock and I choose
http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/creature-shock

Yes it sucked and no it's not related to the "shock" games. It was a shitty rail-shooter that made absolutely no sense. Here's a PS1 video for posterity:

LMAO, I remember playing a demo of this and I thought it wasn't so bad. After watching that video, I'm glad I didn't buy it

I should have downloaded those C&C95 ISOs yesterday, now EA's tubes are kinda clogged

It will be very nice to hear that good old soundtrack. And watch the cutscenes.

I remember playing this in a pixelated 320x200 resolution...

I remember back in the day when the game first came out. Whenever they'd have long extended maintenences such as these, they'd reimburse the players for it. They'd call them 'free days' and their payment would deduct off of their credit card a day later for every day the server was having complications.

I used to play on Stormrage in early 2005, and that's what they did. The lag was horrible at that point, and sometimes the server crashed/rollbacked randomly. It was very frustrating. See it like a crack addict that only gets half his dose. Yeah, that's how it felt back then.

I'm glad I stopped playing. I can waste my time with other useless games now.

> Personally, I think the Tribes community is...a bit nuts. I never, ever, ever could get into Tribes. From the original glide-itis to questionable gameplay mechanics, it never caught on with me. I think it caters to a select group of people, but that's about all I will say for it.

The first of the series was so amazingly good that the community couldn't do anything but whine about the sequels. Tribes 2 isn't the same game since it is more vehicle/team-oriented and slow overall. And T:V was even more different. I guess what the community wanted was the exact same game with the glitches worked out and better graphics.

If you haven't liked Tribes, maybe you have not understood all the gameplay mechanics? It has lots of depth and it is definately not newbie-friendly (Tribes had different aim mechanics such as projectile vectors are relative to the player, and it has ski, which is not in any other game). Getting completely destroyed for months by veterans in-game isn't exactly fun after all.

I thought they said they were making something different this time? I was thinking side-scroller/platform or RTS. But no, it's another FPS.

I've probably been living on another planet in the last 5 years, but how is Valve being able to show stuff at QuakeCon while they are basically direct competitors to id Software?

I'm pleasantly surprised id is patching Quake 4 considering that the public reception to Q4 seems tepid, at best.

I believe it's because Q4 is used in gamer competitions, so issues need to be resolved. Furthermore, I'd guess the D3-now-Q4 engine is probably still subject to being licensed commercially, so while forwarding these fixes to users, id also updates their codebase and forwards fixes to business partners.

I think id games have been the fps cyberathlete deathmatch/1v1 games of choice since cyberathletes existed. Am I wrong? I've seen some videos featuring pros playing Painkiller too, but not as much.

For the record (and I know the room of people who care is pretty much empty), MusiquePlus is the same kind of channel MTV is, but the audience is restricted to Quebec since it uses French (~7 million peeps), as opposed to hundreds of millions for MTV. It has some home-made shows though, and one of them focuses on videogames.

I, for one, have not played Deus Ex at all. I remember trying the demo and losing patience after a few minutes and uninstalling it. Is it still worth grabbing?

Funny thing is that whichever the franchise used, Blizzard will make competition to themselves because their games are so good. Especially if it's another MMO. So I'm pretty sure it isn't a subscription based game.

I would love another Starcraft. I remember the cinematic where those marines enter a science vessel to destroy it, have a beer, get ambushed by zergs and are forced to make the whole thing blow up instead of getting slaughtered... now that was great.
