It's a different style, tho it's the same universe. It feels like you're watching a video game. It's nothing stellar, but worth a viewing I'd say.

Yes the Starship Troopers movie reminds me of a 3D Mark demo with acting:)

Have not watched the whole new movie yet, but I don't see much evidence of the character and humour of the original.

The original must be getting old now but those bug hoards were so well done.

Looks like fun.
No matter how they spice up the action with the gadgets, this obviously console version just has no pace with its turret aim, for any sense of excitement as a trailer.

Can you imagine the nad spamming on a 32 a side TDM.

There are probably good reasons why it is 12 a side.

They have play testers for that sort of thing.

Well done again Valve.
Here is a company that truly understand the best aspects of PC gaming.

For a start TF2 is yet another example of Valve backing a game that started out coming from the mod community.
I got the game as part of the Orange box so I consider it was a bonus anyway as any of the games in the Orange box were worth the asking price on their own.
Then they support the game with a vigor unheard of from other developers, whom you are lucky if they debug the game after release.

Then they give it 4 years of continuous support, where as a lot of other developers want to sweep their last years release under the carpet so they can sell you this years all new, same as last year but slightly shiner release.

And now Valve are making the game free. COD4 came out the same year (2007) and it is still $50 on steam.

Thanks Valve you are the last ray of hope for PC gaming.

Aside from the obvious PC argument, I find it amazing that a CEO of a major publisher is saying that we need new hardware that will most likely double or triple development budgets.

I think with the user friendliness and tech built into current AAA game development engines (Crytec, Unreal3 Rage 3d)the comparatively easy bit is letting your imagination run wild making new and interesting environments.
The expensive bit is the time taken to make that vision work on old tech consoles without without plummeting frame rates anywhere.

It must get frustrating to have the tools to make something stunning, new and ground braking then have to settle for something that looks like what you did in the last game and the game before that.

Hmmm
Looks very Borderlands right down to the weapon styling.
I hope unlike Borderlands the guns have some character.

Yes the baddies mostly run at you but it wouldn't feel like an ID game if they didn't.
Makes a nice change from a COD game that will not let the game continue because you have not done their pick up the RPG scripted bit.

+1 for Quake1 as best SP. I was late to gaming and it was my first shooter game,it scared the shit out of me.

News Comments > RPS on Crysis 2
22. Re: RPS on Crysis 2 Mar 30, 2011, 05:57 Sux

Face it, Crysis will remain the pinnacle of PC graphics till the next generation of consoles come out.
So save your money on graphic card upgrades, you don't need to.

If you can run Crysis from 2007 smoothly your set for sometime to come.

I didn't think Crysis2 looked to bad if it was any other game, I guess it is just that Crysis games are supposed to be the bench mark for how good a game can look.

My biggest grip is the game mistakes clutter for detail and the colors are a bit Serious Sam.

Sad to see transparency film becoming a thing of the past.
It produced naturally vibrant colours you don't get with anything else.

As a PC only gamer it was interesting looking at the "20 best games of 2010" and thinking, are you sure all these games are from 2010 cos most look like they belong on Windows 95.
Not that makes them bad games, just looks odd.

I bought one of these when they first came out, then returned it within days.
Think I had a lot of trouble getting it to work in Windows, not uncommon with Windows 90's hardware support.

I use something similar at work for industrial CAD made by this crowd http://www.3dconnexion.com/,have never tried to connect one of their space balls to a game though.

I thought they had stretched to the limit ways of milking money out of this game.
As usual I will take great pleasure in giving no money at all to them.
I'm off to Valve now to get their free game thats out how.
A game made by some ex modders that Valve took under there wing.
It gives me some hope in gaming that this still goes on.

Luv the cat clip.
Good also to see Valve acknowledging the creativity of the person who did it with a prize.
A lot of other game developers seem bent on stamping out creative use of their engine.

I'm sure there were many readers of this article who thought the burglar could see the window was open on the day from Google Earth.

It does sensationalize google earth as a tool for crime.
The house was an easy target because the bathroom window was left open, not because the robber was able to single out a particular house from google map as being an easy target.

Quote:"As long as people continue buying it".

Exactly.

I'm pleased to say I didn't spent a cent on this game, unlike COD 4and5.
If there next effort is more of the same,it will give we great pleasure to give my money to Medal of Honor instead.

Quote:"If they wanted to make the fanbase happy they'ed re-release all the MW maps for free and then throw out a 5 new map 15 dollar dlc".

If fans like the old maps they should reinstall COD4 and play the maps as they where intended.
MW2's different perks, weapon strengths and multi kill rewards are not necessarily going to work as well for the old maps.
The whole dynamic of what makes a COD4 map so good can easily be lost in a new game.
Better still give the fanbase an editor and amongst the lemons some true classic and original maps will rise to the surface. Not to mention TC's like Counter Strike.
But that's not the way Activision rolls, first they tie up the server side content, then use the editor as a license to print money with a $15 dollar map pack, then rush out a new game with another 6 hrs of SP.

Great business model, but how long will it last?

Not only do you have to pay for maps these days, but you can't even read a thread about it without someone trying to sell you shoes.hehe

(Its been kicked now but someone was selling shoes on this thread)

Commercialism in gaming has gone crazy.
