Well, given that
a) Bowling is considered a sport and it can be done while eating/drinking, and that b) There are occasional attempts to make Chess an Olympic sport, and finally c) Curling is an Olympic sport...
I can see it happening. Sure, Jon Stewart will make jokes about it and Dave Attell will make fun of people but so what?
Actually Fishing is closer to this than anything - while competitive (Bass torunaments and such) it isn't strenuous, even when done for sport. At least CPL athletes have to contend with fast (virtual) action and carpal tunnel...

...that people (publishers included) wouldn't be afraid to show more actual Civilization III gameplay footage. This clip had maybe 5-7 seconds of gameplay, the rest is historical stock footage. Even the gameplay footage is obscured by enhanced images of units moving.
No matter, this game sold well and the pack will sell as well.

Re: Doom III and copy protection |

Preface: I don't know what id will do. No one does.
I don't think id will go for a copy protection scheme like XP does. That's a slightly different affair - XP doesn't want you to "clone" your hard drive and place it into a new system, dodging the online activation. DOOM III will probably have some copy protection but nothing too "intrusive". The trend for single-player type games has been something irreproducible (or hard to anyway) on CD's, like SecureROM. Sure, some people have problems with it but pissing off 2-3% of your users is a small tradeoff.
On a side note, the sheer size may be a deterrent - the level at QuakeCon was supposedly 1.6GB of stuff. Lots will be optimized and compressed but this game may very well make DVD-ROM viable.

I went to Raven's workshop on Friday. They're working on Quake 4, an unannounced PC title and an unannounced console title. They said thad they learned they were giving a talk the day before, so it was just a Q&A session. They said they have to run everything through id and they're waiting to see how certian things pan out with DOOM 3 (like multiplayer, etc.) before showing off anything. That's basically all there is to know.

You must not have read the Q&A. Witness:
Number of maps is no longer a relevant question because the number of maps will depend upon how we have to break apart the game to fit into the RAM that we will specify for the minimum system. If everyone had limitless RAM, we would just make the game a single level. Meaning, they're going for what Half-Life (AFIAK) pioneered - the concept of one continuous game whose "levels" are merely spots where loading has to occur.

Listen, you little pissant. You should try reading my *post*. I said dynamix OR tribes 2 ****RELATED****. Well sorry, I b0rked and thought I was posting on Slashdot for a second. But still, it's not as if you can get anything Dynamix related anymore and if you had been wise and kept your CD then you might be able to join in on the festivities in September...

perhaps its an open source effort (sourceforge and all) to make spell checkers more realistic. Or maybe its the additional words this person has placed in their spell checker. You know, Word doesn't know half the crap you tell it so you tell it to add stuff like the words you use all the time. Then when you format your hard drive and reinstall everything you have to add the words again as you go along. You think to back up your email and documents and shit but never your spell checker additions. Maybe that's what this is.

Uh huh. Riiiight. Well since Quake 3 came out for Win/Mac at the same time and since more recently Warcraft III did, it's not exactly impossible (though Neverwinter Nights did make some lose faith). Plus, lest ye forget, prior to the 3D game engine revolution games came out on Win (err, DOS)/Mac hybrid discs all the time. The main reason Mac releases come second these days is due to publisher issues (and is why MacSoft stays in business).

The deal was:
SPOILER When you killed the guy in the 4th level pit in Chapter 1 (don't remember his name) and the Intellect Deviourer is supposed to show, it doesn't. So you're screwed unless you go into debug mode, conjure one up, conjure up a way for it to die, like cows from hell (since it spawns as "neutral"), and then take the brain thingy. Some scripting bug caused this. SPOILER
Not sure what caused it, but whatever. Still a cool game.

Survivor looks like such a bad game I won't even pay $4.99 for it - I could eat at McDonald's for that. Daikatana is well worth $4.99, so is KISS: Psycho Circus (hit GameStop/Babbage's for that) but not Survivor. Maybe if it hit $2.99 or better yet $1.99.
EDIT: damn spelling

They were called "AYDES" and they were these little caramel dealies for weight loss - my sister/mom took them. Very unfortunate name. Not as bad as the magazine-style book my middle school band director had chosen to teach us how to play music - the book was called AIDS FOR BANDS - why BAND AIDS wouldn't have been a better name I'll never know.
