Definitely snagging that full immersion mod.

I installed via original discs last night to get a "head start" on the rest of the downloading... and yeah, had to download about 35 gigs more. Didn't look at the finished size of the install, some of that has to be overwrites of existing data.

Each HL has had some paradigm shift in game development. HL1 - skeletal animation, HL2 - physics.. so maybe they figure 3 needs to live up to that. If that's the case I would think VR to be the key element.

...it's either that or full immersion developed by Gabe's uploaded neural net brain.

I'm definitely interested in this game. Too bad I kind of forgot about it till just now with this posting and missed out on a boxed copy.

The higher tier versions of the game aren't really grabbing me, so I think I'll just go in for the base game package. The miniature giant space pig has my attention though.

I guess there's a giant miniature space farm out there somewhere with a couple critters missing...

I think there's a difference in opinion about ToR's f2p system because depending on how you supported the game pre-f2p you got handed a different amount of cartel coins. I got an f'ing butt-load of coins when the system went f2p and was able to buy back most of just about everything they took away. And I'm talking the account purchases, not the single character ones.

If you come into the game with little or no cartel coins you're going to see a ton of shit you need to buy, and some of it seems ridiculous. Action bars?

You DO have to spend money on ToR to get a decent game going, but the system at least lets you check things out more than just a little at first.

ESO is def the better MMO between the two in the end. They listen to the community, and some serious work went into the questing to make it have the feeling of depth from a SP experience but still be an MMO. However, this lead to crap mechanics like the phasing issue everyone loathes (sounds like that's been improved though).

At least, hookers and blow should get cheaper at that point.

Just file me under optimistic. I understand the skepticism, the whole ship sale thing I just kind of shake my head at. I'd much rather see people get to buying those ships over time as they play, rather than see some people piloting death stars right from the start because they sold their house (and possibly kids).

But nothing I've seen outside of that tells me this game is destined to be horrible. All the pushing the edge of what can be done in a PC game is the exact sort of thing I've been wanting to see done ever since consoles took over. All the features that have been added just sound like stuff he was probably pondering before he realized how insanely popular this project was going to be. Now he can deliver more upfront.

Stop lying. You are not *consistently* getting 60fps, especially not on a SLI setup which has a history of being extremely poorly supported by this dev team. SLI in SC is broken as fuck and you are getting between 30fps and 60fps depending on where you are, what you're doing and what is going on in the game at the time.

That's not a lie. I got smooth frame rates in the hangar and in A.C. at his same resolution with SLI 980's. Whether it was pegged at 60fps the whole time I don't know, but I never noticed any massive dips.

Can tomorrow's headline be "Star Citizen expected to include voice acting from the cast of Glee"? I think that comment thread would be awesome.

April 1'st is right around the corner...

And yeah, after installing SC this weekend after a long break since last time, I'm not surprised at all by this news considering how large that d/l already is. As far as I'm concerned he's just carrying on his tradition. I used to joke that the WC2 box should just have a hard drive in it.

And just to show it's not a fluke, I could get 60fps in SLI at the same rez as theyarecomingforyou (HP zr30w tacfy?)

Right so an old game is going to have a high cost of entry, so we'll have to wait for a sale at some point. I think this makes more sense if it was brand new, they hype and all. But who is wanting to pay $60 in any kind of numbers now for ESO?

Except that it is a brand new game... for consoles. If it was free on PC's a nice portion of the console crowd would say F this game, that's not fair.

I'm not defending any decisions here, I'm just thinking this is the logic behind it all.

No, they've stated it will be B2P. You still need to buy the game, the sub is what's going away (well... becoming optional). The Secret World does this too.

Only thing I can think of was there was a Command & Conquer online game they were working on. That, and I'm pretty sure Jade 2 is tied up and shackled to a chair in some long forgotten warehouse.

MoreLuckThanSkill wrote on Jan 21, 2015, 15:31:
So, all discussions of Buy to Play vs F2P aside, is this game any good?

For an MMO, it's not bad. They do a lot of things that caters towards immersion, but they botch up grouping if you want to keep questing with the same people from one day to the next. Lots of phased quests, and no rested XP to help catch up to friends if you're out for a while.

Dungeon runs are kind of chaotic in a fun way because the AI doesn't just come straight at you like in other MMO's. I tried doing a line of site pull one time, and instead of getting all the melee mobs to come first, they grouped up with the casters and they all came around the corner at the same time. Was kind of a hilarious slaughter.

Basically it's worth checking, imo. I enjoyed my soloing in it. Haven't played since August.

Depends, I've pointed out on the forums there that you can use WASD to do most of the navigating. Just set A and D to pan camera left and right. You always walk in the direction of the camera, so you basically steer with that. Then you only have to hold down the mouse button to change the tilt up or down of the camera, or to look at something specific.

Some people don't seem to like that method, but you could do it in the previous games and it's how I've always navigated.
