They pulled it off through Games for Windows Live, same as all other cross-platform games.

News Comments > MS on the State of PC Gaming
8. Re: No subject May 8, 2008, 06:28 Kamakazie

when has microsoft ever been in the forefront of pc gaming?

No console.. PC gaming.

Now I liked FASA and the mechawarrior games they produced but flight simulator does not make you one of the head hanchos of pc gaming.

I don't know if I'd say they were ever at the forefront, but Microsoft Games Studios put out a lot of classic games such as Age of Empires, Crimson Skies, Midtown Madness, the old Links series, Allegiance, Mechwarrior, MechCommander and Asheron's Call. Before the advent of the XBox Microsoft was very much into the PC scene.

While there is no copy protection, with the release of Opposing Fronts they do require you to keep the disc in the tray... but only if you don't log into Relic Online. If you register your key with RO you don't need the disc in there.

I just downloaded it and saw no extra content beyond Portal, which I already own. =|

That is because this is a demo. Its nothing you haven't already seen by playing the full game.

Betas are not marketing tools, they are used to eliminate bugs and balance gameplay, this is why they are TESTS. These things are not demos, they are a part of the development process.

Ah, I remember this game... imo Uplink was the more entertaining hacker game, but this one feels more "realistic."

I'd say go for Prophecies or Nightfall, pass on Factions as a first outing. You have the NPC party members you can use, but in reality they're crap. For a while you'll be able to get away using them (til about level 12) but after that you will need real life support. And you should never solo Missions, those are best done with a full party of humans

That site is bugged. I have yet to select a hardware configuration that is accepted (it doesn't like firefox).

Well, if you fail the first time it will make you fail each sequential time.

News Comments > Half-Life 2 Episode Two Dated
23. Re: No subject Jun 15, 2007, 14:35 Kamakazie

Actually it hasn't been in development that long. The current version of TF2 has only been a year and a half.

And if you had read any previews or interviews in the last 6+ months, you'd know that there have been 3 (I think it was) internal versions of TF2 that were scrapped because they didn't find them fun. They haven't been working on TF2 for the last 8 yrs. Would you rather they release crap?

Which would imply that they've been working on the game for 8 years. They haven't been working on the same version we see now, but its still been the same game.

22. Re: Tired! Jun 15, 2007, 14:34 Kamakazie

I'm sick of episodic content and will not consider purchasing past Episode 3 unless what follows it is HL3.

Valve said a while back there will only be 3 episodes so that shouldn't be a problem for you.
