If you actually have a child maybe you should take the extra time wasted defending Black Mesa and apply it to raising him or her.

Well, there are two parents present, luckily. And thankfully, my daughter does sleep.

And if anyone else reading this thinks that's pathetic - Max's original quote, before he edited it -

Mad Max RW wrote on Sep 12, 2012, 13:15:
How about this: I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if your child didn't exist. You made it up after all your old arguments on the Steam forum were so completely dismantled, forcing you to concede to being a nutcase to avoid a ban.

What a guy. I mean, that's classy.

Still no word on the things you worked on, Max, that you say we all played/saw? No? Still not man enough to admit you said it would "NEVER EVER" come out, and were wrong?

Nice theory you have there. I made the mod from 2010-2011 for myself first because after 10 years of talk nobody else would do it. Said that multiple times and only shared it with a handful of friends at the beginning.

So what? Still doesn't mean you don't have a problem with the 'hype' you said the team themselves generated?

Mad Max RW wrote on Sep 12, 2012, 12:36:
I've been critical of Black Mesa since LONG before then. Previously I hadn't been part of a mod team since the Quake 1 days. Between those times I was too busy doing contract work for things I can guarantee you have played/watched.

Yeah? Like what? Put your money where your mouth is. *Amaze* us with your incredible work, if it's true?

Mad Max RW wrote on Sep 12, 2012, 12:36:
pnag, I'm surprised you didn't work another line about your child into that reply. Bravo.

Possibly the cheapest shot I've ever had at me, as it's actually at my FOUR MONTH OLD.

To put it in context for others, one of the voice actors from the mod ON A DIFFERENT FORUM mentioned the delays on the mod were because of personal things, like final exams, babies being born etc. I mentioned that I was involved in a lot of projects outside of my daily work, and since my child was born, I've had to give them all up, so I have some small understanding of what the team must have gone through. Max now throws it in my face. You, sir, are a total asshole. How dare you.

Mad Max RW wrote on Sep 12, 2012, 12:36:
What was the full context of my quote from 2005, btw? I'm curious. Link to the original post, please. Looks like I hit the nail on the head. Who would have guessed (beside myself) seven years later the mod would still not be finished.

Sorry - you can't squirm out of this one.

Over-ambitious mod teams that will NEVER EVER EVER be released... Case in point, Black Mesa: Source. There's a better chance of seeing Half Life 6 before this sorry heap.

NEVER EVER EVER? How's Friday for you? Context be damned - you look like a clown.

And I'll ask this civilly at least - don't ever mention my child again.

Over-ambitious mod teams that will NEVER EVER EVER be released. Half Life 2, and every single "next big thing" FPS is plagued with them. Case in point, Black Mesa: Source. There's a better chance of seeing Half Life 6 before this sorry heap. The farce that is BM:S is cleverly hidden behind a website I guarantee has had more hours of work put into it than the actual mod. There's a handful of decent screenshots. But these guys bit off way more than they can chew. I almost feel sick at how much the HL community gushes over it. It's like watching people about to get executed and they have no idea what's happening.

Sad, isn't it? He did a really nice job on the AvP mod, but I guess the attention he garnered wasn't enough. He's had a vendetta against the Black Mesa team for a loooong time.

If you disagreed with him, you were attacking him. Sad.

The sad part is, Max was just one of about 3 or 4 very vocal few on the official Steam forum who utterly tried to trash this mod so, so many times.

Was it delayed? Sure. Did they say 2009? Yup, but I'm sure there were good reasons for the delay, even if we were all disappointed - they were working on it for free! What right did we have?

I got sick of the entitled attitude of 'the few' and had a go at them - more fool me.

Today though? Feeling very vindicated

Sounds like he was in love with this mod very much and it broke his heart.

My theory is he's jealous. He did a nice job on the AvP mod, but Black Mesa is much larger in scope, and garnered more attention. As a result, he threw the rattle out of the stroller, so to speak

it is pretty funny seeing all the vitriol being tossed back and forth over a game mod.

Not quite true - more over the entitled attitude of some folk. That always gets my goat, whether it's a game mod, attitude to life, whatever.

Well, that's the case for me, anyhow

You were the same genius (among many familiar geniuses) who attacked me for daring suggest they release without Xen back when they missed the 2009 release date. I suggested episodic releases if they couldn't seal the deal and was attacked. Not only by you, but even the Black Mesa team and forum admins. You have no credibility. Most of the blind fanboys have none. I've been proven right countless times and will be once more when the rest of Black Mesa is never released after the team totally dissolves 6 months after September.

Um, any evidence of this at all? Because I never did that?

I'll be honest and say I didn't like the episodic idea (for Half Life or BM:S) but I certainly never attacked you for the idea.

Completely remaking every asset, level, sound, model, texture, etc. of the game is "small scale"? With no team and undocumented tools. What have you done? Besides living vicariously through the Black Mesa thread on the Steam forums.

Ah, Max my friend, again, you talk garbage. Until today, I've not posted on the Black Mesa thread in many, many months. Not exactly living vicariously, now is it?

What have I done? Mod wise? Nothing. Well, not quite true. I made a couple of Doom levels back in the 90s (they stank, man, were they bad!) and using screen shots before it was released, ported some of the Dark Forces weapons into Doom. Pretty bad too.

Other than that? I've been a software engineer, programmer, and for the past 6 years, a Sys Admin. So? I don't go around criticising other software engineers, programmers or sys admins needlessly and in the most arrogant, trolling kind of way.

Criticise the BM:S team all you want (and you will), but the average poster/reader here will see you for what you are - someone who values their opinion very highly, and everyone else be damned.

You come off like a spoilt, teenage troll.

This is what happens when dealing with illiterate apologists. I'm sure their favorite movie is Prometheus and they voted for Obama, too.

Oh, Max, your arrogance knows no bounds. I see you've learnt *nothing* at all.

I'm Irish, so couldn't have voted in the US, but probably would have voted for Obama. Yup, liked Prometheus too. Favourite movie? No, it was far too flawed for that - wouldn't even make my top 100.

But guess what?!? You never answered my question.

What large scale mod have you produced?

Again, I know you produced some nice small scale AvP mods - but what of the scale of Black Mesa?

...The fact is they couldn't keep any of their promises. I hold people to their word, and when someone can't live up to it multiple times that doesn't bode well. If the thing is great, fine, none of it matters. But taking the tired old white-knighting stance of "Oh, it's free and they don't owe you anything" is apologizing for their inabilities. I've never seen this end well. Maybe Black Mesa will be the first, and that would be a great thing.

Max! How are you? You used to post on the Black Mesa thread on the Steam forums.

Seems your attitude didn't go over too well here? I know you've made AvP mods, but something of the Black Mesa size/standard?

WMC is terrible... The problem is that DVDs and Blu-rays are horrible to use - it's honestly a lot more practical for me to just download everything. What they need is a Steam-like client for media. I'm kinda surprised that Valve hasn't already moved into media distribution, as it would be awesome to have sales on TV series and movies.

Except for someone like me, blu-ray (although still compressed) doesn't look like the shit you can download. The level of compression is awful for most of the digital distribution I've tried, but then I'd have a 35mm projector if my wife would let me.

As for a Steam like client? There's a Netflix plugin?

You also never actually said why it's horrible to use?

You're only surprised because you are one of the minority that like Media Center. It's intrusive and it starts itself at the most annoying times. I'll take any media software over that.

Media Center? Are you sure you're not thinking of Media Player? There is a difference. I love VLC on desktop machines or laptops, but on my 60" plasma, in the sitting room, for all the things I mentioned, Media Center is the best. (10ft menu, live tv etc.)

If Media Center (and not Media Player) is auto starting, you've messed up somewhere.

I use Media Center (not Media player, there is a difference) for watching all my media (blu-ray, Avi's, Mkv's, live satellite tv etc)

Tried all the alternatives (MythTV, XBMC etc) and in terms of overall functionality? Nothing came close.

I think it's a mistake to remove it, as I doubt the codec licensing savings will be passed on to the end user.

Surprised at blue to hear him say he'd pay to *not* have it?!?

Not a 'Titanorak', Blue?

A lot of people are, and not because of James Cameron's 'epic'. I've been reading about it for over 30 years - it's a hell of a story, not just about a ship that sinks. My 2 cents anyway

Not even the Irish celebrate it? Are you serious?

Speaking as an Irishman, in Ireland, the morning after St. Paddy's Day (*not* Patty!) - and who (like everyone else in this nation) has Monday off as a bank holiday because of it, and who went to his local parade yesterday and saw the Dublin one on tv, I can tell you - you're talking total rubbish. Sorry, garbage to Americans.
