| The question is: Why do they expect it to sell so much? Is there some kind of scheduled self-destruction of Wiis and DVD players happening later this year? What could they possibly do to make this happen? |

| I doubt he's going to start selling the alpha this week, so you guys should stand down. There'll be plenty of time to grouse about the game after he forces you to give him money again. |

what conclusion would you arrive at if you spent/wasted a 1/4 of your budget on these stupid measures, and your game was pirated 10x more than if you hadn't? I really don't understand what you're trying to say. Are you thinking that playing a unlicensed copy of their game makes them stay awake nights trying to think of a way to please you?
I was just saying: Don't be a stowaway on the EA zeppelin, just let them crash and burn. |

msg to EA: i am going to steal this game because of this move, i don't even give a shit about the game really at this point i'm sure the rest of the game will be full of shit like this as well. simcity 4 is just fine for me. not pirating is not even an option at this point, because if you don't they'll think this megalomaniacal BS is working. infact i'm going to wardrive continuously upon release and download as many copies as i can, while installing it zero times, just so you can share in some of the fucking you're so willing to hand out to your paying customer base. hope you enjoy tracking down all the spoof'd IP's i hand your shady tracking systems. DIAF. Why bother? just treat anything EA makes as poison from now on, and you'll still have too many games to play in one lifetime. |

How long do you guys think it will take for Bobby Kotick to start crowdsourcing Activision's games?
I mean, get the money up front then sell DLC on the back end... sounds like he just doubled Activision's profits. |

DanteUK wrote on Feb 1, 2012, 05:10: Definitely not too young and been in IT for 30 years. Personally I loved Rage and it worked out the box on my PC, but then I've an old Nvidia card and not a new ATI card where ATI screwed up on their driver releases. I fail to see how id can be blamed so much for a bad PC port when the biggest issues where caused by ATI releasing a driver with the wrong .dll's in it! I'll repeat, the game was very playable and looked great on my PC from day of install - my rig is NOT a top of the range, in fact my Nvidia card I think is THE min spec card listed on the box! A couple of tweaks to the config file and unless I span 180 really fast I never saw any texture popping.
I have to second this. Obviously, the console ports came first this time and megatexturing is not as impressive as it will someday be, but the ATI driver thing was ATI's dog, not id's. Before release, Carmack complained a lot about the difficulty of wringing any kind of performance out of the (superior) hardware of a PC due to crappy software drivers. When Rage came out it was a perfect shitstorm of all the technical issues he'd been pointing out. It's ATI that doesn't care about PC gaming, not id.
I'm looking forward to the time when Bethesda uses the Rage engine for their next Fallout game instead of the "claymation engine" they use now. |

Obviously you haven't played some of the flop MMO's that didn't even deserve a launch. (Horizons, Alganon, Matrix Online, Darkfall, Vanguard, Dark and Light, Tabula Rasa... to name a few off the top of my head) Did you play any of these MMOs, or are you just good at reeling off lists of games considered declasse in the current market? |

I really don't know why they are geeking out over the Fallout IP, when it's just a name. I'm sure Bethesda could just buy the Wasteland IP for a song and make the same game. Hell, they could just call it "Jimbob's Reactor Land" and no one would care. (or notice)
Then they could brag about what a favor they're doing their customers like they always do.
edit: or just call it "Rage Online" *snort* |

I read this article right before going to play Glitch. It's all true. Glitch hasn't asked me for money yet, but they keep sending me emails to tell me when I've done/finished learning a skill.
It's like a virtual mom asking me to do virtual chores. Pretty soon, they'll be virtually hitting me up for money to buy some virtual lottery tickets. |

If this had some form of more traditional multiplayer then perhaps, as it is this seems like they put all their eggs into single player and the mutiplayer is just a token afterthought.
2 player co-op for just a handful of missions, and 6 person vehicle deathmatch with no dedicated servers. This is id software we're talking about, isn't it? They KNOW who is buying their games on the PC, and why they have had success in the past. I'm sure they'll release dedicated servers and mod tools for the PC version soon enough.
Give them a chance to release the game before you start complaining about lack of support. |
