News Comments > ET: QUAKE Wars to Include Ads
49. Re: No subject Jun 19, 2007, 23:35 Tonester

I pre-ordered the game. Needless to say, I'll probably be returning it. I'm sure the game will rock, but I just can't support this sort of behavior and blatant corporate spin.

The game is $50. Was there a coupon I skipped somewhere? What savings are being passed down to me?

Its a future war with aliens. What pertinent ads could possibly be "unobtrusive"?

And, if the ads are truly "unobtrusive" and "hardly noticeable", then how the fuck did you convince anyone to actually pay to advertise in these "unobtrusive" and "hardly noticeable" areas? What was the sales pitch? "Hey advertisers - we have some very cool, small, and barely noticeable ad spots for sale. Interested?"

So, what is the overhead for this ad software? Will it screw up my ping/cpu times? Or, is it some sort of free software that magically works without taking up any system/network resources?

P.S.
I pre-ordered the game, but Fileplant subscribers get an invite to the beta before I do. This was the icing on the cake for me. I was really looking forward to it. Now? I'll wait until those "savings" get passed down to me when the game drops to $30 or so or Target has it on sale or something. My pre-order is going back, tomorrow.

Wow, tards. I remember when Steam was being pitched to us, the consumer, as something awesome because of increased options and lower costs. Ahhh... how those times have changed. Soon, Steam will be the only option apparently. Can't wait for that day.

Haha. Now I know why I pirated HL2 and Ep1 - so that I could pay $10 when Ep2 comes out (that I only want for TF2) and get them both cheap!

Guild Wars has flavor?

LoTR is probably the best PvE/RP MMO available and in those departments, it eats WoW up for breakfast. I hated LoTR until their last big content update and now it is golden. Unfortunately, I'm a PvP guy so LoTR holds no interest for me.

Conan is taking quite a few risks. I hope to get in and get a glimpse as to whether or not some of these risks pan out. Personally, I'm pulling for it - I would love to have an M rated game to play.

Um, you do understand that Blizzard almost ripped off 100% the Warhammer art style don't you? Warhammer was doing that well before WoW came out.
