| I stopped reading at the "teabagging" comment. I thought there may be some actual merit in the article till I got to that point, and then I realized it was just a liberal vs. conservative post yet again. |

I use shock collars on my pooches ("Training Collars" if you want to be PC) and they work great. I rarely ever have to use the shock button, and then only at a low level. Most of the time the "beeps" correct the pooch after they learn the collar.
If you see other dogs approaching and call Hudson back, and she doesn't come, the collars offer additional incentive....which is then rewarded when they get back with a treat... Fairly soon they just listen without a beep or shock needed.

Those are the ones I use since I've got 2 labs and they tend to find ANY water they can. Nice part is that they can control up to 2 collars with 1 remote. |

When one of the options for your survey is "service for burglars" it really make me wonder if they had other colorfully worded choices in the positive like "cure for cancer" or "service for homebuyers".
I suppose I'm just naturally suspicious of a survey like this being put out by "myvouchercodes.co.uk"....Seems that the biggest benefit they get is having more controversy....hence the "service for burglars" option. |

From this page:
Overview
Miner Wars is a 6DOF underground and space shooter played in a fully destructible environment and is a combination of single player story game and MMO.
Anti-Piracy
The game will not utilize any sort of DRM protection, nor activation code. To play the game you only need to download and install the package and enter your login/password. As the game interacts with our servers during the game play, we periodically check for suspicious users. The game isn't locked to your computer, so you can play it from home or work
So you have to log into the server and stay connected to play the game as an MMO only or single player as well? If it's just for the MMO I wouldn't call it DRM....but if I need an active internet connection to play single player as that page seems to indicate, I sure as heck would call that DRM. |

I haven't had to mob-grind much in Champions Online. This post is about Aion, not Champion's Online, did you just write the wrong game title or post on the wrong article? |

| The blacktop plants in our area usually close down in mid-November...depending on weather of course. They don't usually run later, but they do close earlier if the weather doesn't cooperate. So long as they finish up and are ready to blacktop by the last week of October they should be all done for the winter. |

Yeah, I missed the beta so I wasn't going to buy it...I'm a fan of try before you buy. I really liked the idea and the setting, and I decided that I wast $50 on stupider things so I decided to give it a try.
It has the typical MMO start-up bugs. I hope they can get them ironed out within the 30 day free trial, but as a small company I'm not too confident. The crafting system is similar to Eve, you start your crafting and it runs on a timer (you carry it with you) but it also has "skill points" for crafting that decide what you can make, so it uses elements from both styles I suppose. You can speed up the crafting by standing in "workshops"...so if you're gonna log for the night making bullets, you log out in the ballistics workshop and they get made faster (crafting works while offline and during server outage).
Combat is a tad laggy (seems to be server side) and buggy at the moment. The MOBS don't seem to be very intelligent so far, however I'm just in the starter areas so I can't give a real impression on this. The ones I've seen so far (up to level 10) just run up to you and attack. Combat is FPS "Style" (aim and click) but there's an added "stat" element to it (glancing blows). I really enjoy the combat, minus the lag. If you're looking for fallout 3 combat, this is NOT it.
Progression is fun. It's a classless system. You gain "AP's" (no idea what it stands for)...2 at a time...as you level up. It's like you have a level and a sub-level. You distribute the AP's as you see fit into a skill (armor use, rifles, pistols, meelee, social, medic, etc) for 1 point per AP, or into attributes (Strength, coordination, dexterity, etc) for 5 AP each. You can also get "bonus" AP's from doing quest chains.
I like the character customization, however I can't speak for how "exact" your build has to be to do "end game" content when you get to level 45 (the cap). I'm not overly worried since I rarely play a game long enough to get to the level cap, but there are no respecs so once you spend an AP and hit Apply, it's there for good. It kind of sucks for people who didn't play in beta and are experimenting since we don't get to see what stuff does first hand without having to re-roll to fix a mistake.
The community is ok...not great. They constantly pat themselves on the back and tell themselves how smart they are. They constantly insult other games (mostly WoW) and those who do or have played them. They rabidly defend the game, even against legitimate critism. Now, that is the most VOCAL portion of the community (on the forums and in game) so I don't know the "real" percentage. I have never once had a problem finding someone willing to answer the stupidest and noobest question without insulting me...not to say no one insults me, but someone is always helpful amongst the asshats.
GM's are almost constantly online, and instead of filing support tickets, you simply send them a /tell. Longest I've had to wait for support was about 2 minutes. THIS is one of the things I appreciate most about the game.
So, hopefully that answers some questions. I'm not going to tell you if you should buy it or not because I really don't know. If $50 is too much to gamble on a game, I would say pass on it and wait for it to settle down some or become less buggy. If they offered a free trial right now, I would most likely quit. Too many people use free accounts as no-consequences methods of just messing with other players. At least this way if someone decides to be an asshat they have to fork out $50 to do so. Tends to keep their population at a minimum while the game works out it's growing pains and establishes a subscriber base.

| If it was leaked then why is it on YouTube still? A simple take-down would get rid of it. I would tend towards thinking it's an "intentional" leak to generate buzz. It may have been created to sell the game to publishers, but what better way to get them all to see it at once...accidentally leak a video and wait for THEM to call you instead of trying to get meetings with them..... |

That part seems self-explanatory. I don't see anything that say you can't. These questions seem non-specific to this event. This would be up to the store. Most retailers don't allow returns of opened PC games. They are. Pre-select allows access to the game to create a character and select a name. Headstart is when you get to start playing. Ok, maybe I asked my questions in the wrong way.
If I pre-order, I assume I can not pick up the retail copy until release date. If I can get my hands on the box, it's a pre-purchase not a pre-order. Of course, now that the store is working on their site I can see that they're calling it a pre-purchase, but that's the online store, the press release still refers to a pre-order which I assume is for the B&M (I'm considering anywhere that sells boxes B&M as opposed to digital) shops. If they let me pick up/download the game AND start playing it, it's not a headstart or a pre-order or a pre-purchase. It means they're selling the game and it's been released to the public since anyone can buy it, but only at limited locations.
Sure, maybe they're doing an "exclusive" release to certain B&M stores, but it sounds like they're trying to make it sound extra special that you start to play 2 days before the official release. If they let you buy the game right up until release and join in the "pre-order" time period, they may as well just say they're releasing it two days earlier instead of trying to make it sound like some special deal you get.
If they said people who order before "September 1st" or something like that, then I would agree that it's a pre-order headstart for those two days. Like you said, however, there is nothing that says you can't buy it the day before release and be in on the "pre-order headstart" which simply means they're releasing it two days earlier to exclusive outlets....
Yeah, I know I'm not being the most eloquent in trying to get my point across, but hopefully I made more sense that time.
Now that you've explained the pre-select I get what that is. Thanks. |

I'm a bit dense, I admit it....but how is it a pre-order with early access? Can I not pre-order it at a brick and mortor the day before it's released and still get in the game? Am I allowed to return it before it's released? And what's the difference between "Pre-Select" and "Headstart"? Seems that both are given to people who pre-purchase.
Seems to me it's more of an "exclusive" upon release....you just can't take your box home that day. Their store appears to be down (and I'm not going to e-mail your@example.com as their 500 error page suggests) and I can't find details anywhere else on their site. Anyone have the inside scoop? |

| Derek, I'm having difficulty decoding the form of English you're using on that post....are you, as a game developer, saying that "most" of your customers are stupid? Is this simply because they like to use games as an escape where they can zone out and don't have to enjoy doing spreadsheets in their spare time? EvE is a great game for a lot of people, that doesn't mean if you don't like it then you're most likely stupid, it just means you don't like it. |
