Yeah, the PC gives you better graphics, but so what? My sentiments exactly!
A few months ago I played Resident Evil 4 on the Wii. At first I thought "Oh god, why can't this be at least at 720p". But after one hour I completely forgot about that because it was just such an awesome game.
In my opinion I should be able to run most of the games on my mobile Geforce 8600 GS but no....publishers push out UT 3, Crysis,etc and wonder why it's all going down... |

id say casual pc gamers have moved over, not hardcore gamers. Wrong, I was a hard core gamer for many many years, bought everything starting with the voodoo 1, played everything they threw at me. About 2 years ago I grew tired of constantly upgrading my PC so I sold my desktop PC, bought a Xbox 360 and was quite happy with it. Now I play PC games on my laptop with a geforce 8600 GS - the games I really want to play (Quake Wars and Supreme Commander) run just fine and I don't care about the other stuff.
Those games I can't run on the laptop, I usually get for the 360. Of course, there's the die hard crowd that would burn me for using a gamepad. Well I dont give a fuck. If a game is really good, input devices are irrelevant. |

| Played some Tiberium Wars online but the multiplayer lobby and matchmaking is still broken. The engine has so many problems with NAT and firewalls that it's not even remotely funny. |

| If you build 3,4 hangar defenses and upgrade the planet's fallout shelters it will be pretty tough to raze your planet. Now add a planetary shield to that and your colony will last a long time until your own fleet arrives. |

I didnt buy UT3. I bought ut2003 and 2004 only to realize that there were never more than 10 players online. So basically the same happened again?
I guess that the kids all play CoD4 which is a good game but I got bored of it after 2 hours or so online. The only multiplayer shooter that keeps me coming back is Quake Wars. I burned out on the CS/UT/Q3 and Battlefield games long ago and somehow Quake Wars just does it for me. It's fast paced, yet strategic, maps are larger but the action is kept focused.

Just optimize your games and they will come.
Examples: Crysis, insane hardware requirements, failed.
Call of Duty 4, moderate requirements, smash hit.
You know, I stopped upgrading my desktop PC and just bought a core 2 duo laptop with a mobile 8600gs geforce. Now I know I won't be able to play all the new games in full HD resolutions but, for example, Crysis ran (and looked) like shit on even the lowest settings possible. Call of Duty 4 ran very smooth on medium resolutions and medium to high settings.
Yes of course, you can't compare COD 4's engine to that of Crysis but hey, I'm Joe Average-Gamer, I don't care. |
