How can it just be one swap? Is the game no longer open-ended exploration? I can't go back to content on disk 1? If I do, why does it not require a swap back?

Doesn't make sense.

How about a special "Versus" mode, Characters vs. Midnight Riders, with the Zombies attacking both factions? Why would the humans fight? Could be a fight for resources.

Why don't the greedy bastards donate the whole ten bucks to the charity? How does it cost them anything to provide that?

I haven't heard anyone say 'what gives' in 5 to 6 years either, so maybe this is right up your alley.

How about tables for the on sale section? Grouped into sections by seller, column one Title, column 2 price or offer.

I'm interested to see how this goes over with all those folks that claimed to be against GameStop's "monopoly" and not used games in general.

News Comments > Livingstone: Used Games "No Benefit"
33. Re: Livingstone: Used Games Aug 20, 2009, 13:16 Atomic

That gamestop is making most of its money off used game sales, well, good for gamestop. Who cares? That's called a free market economy. Gamestop saw that people felt games were overpriced, they started offering them 5 to 10 bucks cheaper for a used copy, and people bought them in droves. That's smart business.

That's the point I've been trying to make about lower prices for new games. People just want a lower price.

There is not a single instance in the entire known universe where used sales somehow financially benefit the original creator of the product that's being sold. The game industry somehow feels that new rules should apply for it. It is wrong.

Exactly.

News Comments > Livingstone: Used Games "No Benefit"
24. Re: Livingstone: Used Games Aug 20, 2009, 12:58 Atomic

Beamer, I'm not convinced.

1) Many people cannot afford new games. Used games, then, are often sold to people that are not in the market for new games and sales are not really hurt. I'm in that camp; I'll never pay full retail for a game. Ever. So when I buy used, they are not losing a sale from me. By your very statement, I was never in their demographic anyway.

2) This is just an argument against GameStop, not used game sales in general. What about a local mom and pop store that can't afford to stock new games because publisher's require minimum orders?

3) Pawn shops are an absolute necessity. Pawn shops exist for the very reasons you state; people need to sell something quickly, and only an established dealer has the necessary capital and space to buy quickly. Nothing sold at a pawn shop, nothing, sends a dime back to the original manufacturer of the item. Why should games by any different?

Ultimately, used games is not the issue. The developers and publishers are just sore over supposed lost revenue, which as I stated before, could be easily recouped by lowering prices.

Well I mean technically he's right, they do see basically no money for it

Not true. They got their money from the original purchaser. A good analogy is a used car; car manufacturers do not get money from a used car, the dealerships do.

This is greed and short sightedness, plain and simple. The solution is to lower the price of new games; you'll sell more up front, and you'll diminish the demand for used games.

Prez, now that we have the "censored" name calling out of the way, I am trying to have a reasonable dialog with you. What I am saying is that the gamers are paying the bills and haven't let up, despite how poorly they are treated. What is the motivation for a developer to change their behavior? The only way it will change is if we stop chomping at the bit for the latest/greatest/next best thing and then pay full retail price for it when it is released. Show some patience and let it hit the bargain bin. That will send a message; like leaving a quarter tip for a waitress that gave you poor service.

Whine if you want to whine... I don't like it, but I can take it. But all that does is perpetuate the situation. They don't care about anything but your money because that is all you give them.

I don't disagree with you, but don't you see the cause and effect? Why should PC developers give a crap about what gamers think? The most vocal of the lot are whiners through and through, yet they buy the games anyway. Grow up, act maturely, offer constructive criticism, vote with your dollars, and the developers will start to listen. Heck, they may even start to act like they give a crap about you. Whining is not taking something seriously. Action is taking something seriously.

What a stupid statement. It goes without saying that gaming takes low precedence on the heirarchy of life's crises, but this is a games forum. One built by, run by, and frequented by people who take gaming as a serious hobby. Deal with it or get lost.

Ouch, what's the matter, hit you where it hurts?

So what you are saying is, because you are a serious gamer you can't rise above whining? I didn't realize those things were mutually inclusive, but thanks for clearing that up!
