Another day, another round of lies, contradictions, and ignoring day one bugs...

I generally like the game (though this expansion not as much,) but dealing with Blizzard's crappy customer support is getting really tiresome.

Meanwhile, go read a list of "blue" posts and see how they spend most of their time joking around and regressing the general forum community.
Wah wah.
Complaining, but realizing Blizzard doesn't care,

I hope something comes out one day - I really liked the first one and this could be a really fun series. The story was weak and the combat portions really hurt the game, but I loved the feeling of first-person immersion in such a quick, vibrant world.

Meanwhile, let's make more games about America shooting everything...
I beat it three times and go revisit it every now and then.

10. Re: Paxton Fettel Playable Solo in F.E.A.R. 3 Feb 14, 2011, 17:39 Ray Marden

They aren't "wrong" to do this, but I think so lowly of this game that it just cheapens it even further. Instead of focusing on a well crafted single player experience, it makes me think of beating individual levels one by one and then playing them with another toon for ZOMGWTFBBQ!!!! explosions.

Poor F.E.A.R. - at least I'll always have the first game.
I'll watch reviews, but I'm not expecting to buy this on day one.
Thinking the second was a bit generic and this one is just silly,

Hey, I would like a sequel to Half-Life, but I will gladly play Portal 2 in the meantime.

Portal 2 and Duke Nukem Forever (shut up, I hate you all...) are two titles I cannot wait to play.
It's a nice year: DE, Crysis 2, The Witcher 2, TESV, etc.

11. Re: Dragon Age 2 Gold Feb 12, 2011, 06:47 Ray Marden

Yeah, I hope it ends up being a good game so I will end up having something nice to play when the GotY edition comes out in a year.

Otherwise, I have no intention of buying this game during the initial release. I forgave a number of the shortcomings of the first game because it was - literally - the origin of my character...which BioWare just shrugged at and immediately disregarded for this game. Additionally, requiring a two month preorder just to have a more complete game speeks to the sheer greed of the company. They were already planning on cutting out half the game to sell it back to you via DLC, but that wasn't enough for them - their business plan actively promoted screwing over day one purchasers.

Thanks, but no thanks. GotY or nothing at this point.
And if it isn't amazing, even more shame on them.
Stuck waiting on Intel to push out the revised SB motherboards ,

So...apparently I was the only one that wanted less Olyphant in the voice?

As for the game, it looks intriguing. I gave up any hopes of a sequel to DE, but I'm hoping this is a smart or more robust shooter that pays respectable homage to the first game.

Wishing I had ordered the P67 MB ahead of ordering the i7-2600k ,

News Comments > Assassin's Creed Brotherhood PC Interview
25. Re: Assassin's Creed Brotherhood PC Interview Jan 31, 2011, 12:48 Ray Marden

I wasn't terribly impressed with the first game (buggy as heck and it felt like a console fad,) but some of the tweaks made the second game enjoyable (coupled with me buying it half off.)

At this point, though, I can wait a bit before I play a third game. The combat is still a joke, the story is ludicrous, I don't care about the main characters, I don't enjoy the endless hunting of pointless items, and some of the usual bugs are still there. However, this newest game has even less appeal because it seems like a rehash of the previous one, but now with more multi-player.
Enzio deserves to die.
I just don't have any significant interest in this one and I can't believe they stuck with the same character/settings. Maybe when this one is $10 or less. As for future games, they better present a different setting and character coupled with some significant gameplay improvements. Otherwise, I feel like I have put in my time with this series and have seen everything is has to offer.

Shrugging,
Ray

Aye - this was a very generic platform game. I think the scores for the various platforms ran around 60%? I'm sure it was relatively good for how little time and money was put into it, but this always seemed like a tie-in cash grab.
It makes Tron 2.0 look like a work of art.
Tron has an interesting world and could spawn a great game one day, but this certainly was not it.

Noting it was immediately bundled into some of the holiday packs,

News Comments > Dragon Age II DLC and System Specs
23. Re: Dragon Age II DLC and System Specs Jan 7, 2011, 11:35 Ray Marden

Meh.

I find it really offensive that I have to pre-order the game some two months ahead of its release to even get that EA considers the full game to be.

To say nothing of all the additional, inevitable DLC...

Or how I found the first game had a weak story, but it was okay since it was the origins of my chracter...which they just tossed out the window with this game.

On a less bitter note, I haven't been amazed by anything I've seen thus far. Hopefully it's a decent action-RPG, but I really object to the mandatory two month pre-order. If I do ever pick this up, it will be a year from now when the GotY edition is released.
I hope this does get dumbed down like ME2 was.
Wondering if this is just a DLC pack turned (bizarre?) sequel,
Ray

Yeah, even for those that have a 3D capable television, how many have the matching Blu-Ray player and glasses?

I think HDTV is really catching on now because so many major stations are offering (versions of) it coupled with the size and quality of television that people can buy for relative price.

And at the end of the day, I think that is what a lot of people are doing - they're saying "I have $$$ to spend; what can I get for that?" Currently, I would say that they would be better off getting a non-3D television or, if they do get that 3D television, not utilizing it due to the extra costs (3D player, glasses, 3D Blu-Rays) and inferior quality.
Beamer, you so crazy!

There are still quite definitive price gaps between "HDTV," "good HDTV" and "3D HDTV."

From a personal perspective, I have an older LCD and I recently purchased a 46" LED. Until 3D is cheaper, has a finalized standard, is available on next-gen Blu-Ray, and can be viewed without glasses, I have no interest.

Currently, 3D is a neat effect, but it only works when the material was filmed/created for 3D from the start. Even then, I would argue a nce 2D image - currently - looks far, far better than an equivalently-priced 3D image.
How many of us are using 3D monitors? Yeah, I thought so...
Laughing at the retail prices of Blu-Rays, much less 3D Blu-Rays,

36. Re: Steam Holiday Sale Begins Dec 20, 2010, 18:34 Ray Marden

It's a developer decision, but it's just about only Valve that lets you gift "extra" copies of games, else they just disappear.

If you are concerned, it will tell you prior to finalizing purchase - it will state "You already own <Game XYZ>, you will/won't be able to purchase additional copies." Well, something to that effect...
Kind of like reverse piracy by the publishers. ZOMG.

And the market won't stagnate if all you play is mindless slaughter of fellow humans, but wrapped in a different coat of paint?

That's fine if that is a segment of the market, but I think the gaming market would implode if that is all it aims to become.

It will certainly work in the short term, but I don't see how it can work in the long term. How many times can companies keep on increasing prices for generic maps where the player supplies the AI, the player supplies the atmosphere, the player supples the dynamic component, the player supplies the emotional connection, the player supplies the comedy, etc.
Uhh...what do these developers do again?
Finding it telling that so many developers are bad at the SP design,

News Comments > EVE Online: Incursion Launches
24. Re: EVE Online: Incursion Launches Nov 30, 2010, 17:59 Ray Marden

You all know WoW and Eve are the same game, but just the opposite of each other, right?

Personally, I love the pick up and play aspect of WoW, but it quickly turns into a leveling race so you can just max out and run the same instances over and over to hunt the 1% drop rate item.

In contrast, Eve is a really, really need idea, but a fairly limited, PvP *or* mining focused game. The main thing I do in that game is manage skill queues which, at this point, take a month or so to complete. Otherwise, go do mining or search for things to kill. I'm overjoyed that the game will finally have things like resizing and AA, but those kind of point out the awkwardness of the game; it's almost 2011 and the game is only now attempting these things?

It's kind of funny playing both games - when I'm tired of WoW's PvE, I can go PvP in Eve. When I get tired of doing nothing but waiting for time to pass in Eve (skill queue,) I log into WoW and immediately work on grinding out something. When I get tired of doing WoW's quests, I log into Eve and see what the player-operated world has achieved. When I get bored with the bleakness of space, I log into any one of the unique cities in WoW. When I'm tired of the WoW auction whores and subsequent gold sellers/buyers, I think of how Eve sells GTCs directly and both offers paid gold and offers regulation of the market.

In summary.....wah wah.
People that deny the faults of either games are liars.
So $#@@#@^@^@$$@^#&%^5)(*)%&U)#%*#)(* glad the game will resize now,
Ray

Well, Cyber Monday has kind of died off this year - most of the big online retailers did a full Black Friday week so this just seems to be tacked on at the end of things.

I picked up the Alien Anthology Blu-Ray set for $60, NBA 2K11 for $30, two or three things on Steam, and a bunch of sub-$10.00 older games or Blu-Rays.

If anybody needs a console system, the holiday packs are nice. Otherwise, there were some nice deals on Blu-Ray players and televisions, but I already have those covered.
LED FTW!
Noting that vanilla WoW through WotLK is only $20.00 now,

I think Green Lantern could be interesting given his overall setup (tied to a ring that's tied to a lantern, one of many, universal diversity, the mythos, etc.,) but the trailer just makes this seem totally goofy.

ZOMG look at me! So funny! WOO HOO RANDOM HOLLYWOOD EXPLOSION! Dude, I can totally get the chicks. This ro><!

A lot of the comic fans were really playing this up, but...damn. It felt like I was watching FF or DD, but with Van Wilder.
And he can act decently; this is obviously commercialized fluff.
Thinking the CG could use some work, too,
