You obviously don't play Hard Core mode. No one, NO ONE survives more than 3 bullets from ANY weapon which is why, on my list, I stated Hard Core kills should be the norm regardless if you choose Standard or Hard Core. Forever I thought it was my network connection until my buddy turned me onto HC servers. Now I regularly get a good kill/death ratio.
Why would they ever nerf the killing potential in a game is beyond me. Why is it a "joy" to unload 30 rounds into someone and MAYBE get a kill?
This plagued BF2 as well and needs to be corrected permanently. It would make people play more conservatively and also from medium long range and make for a more enjoyable game overall.
it took them almost two years to get out 1.4. that patch was in beta test for the longest time. and they still did not fix the bugs. and those additional content were remakes of old maps. thats bad.
The game would be fantastic if it were slowed a bit
Are you fucking serious?! I find the movement speed in the game to be way too slow as it is. Because this game had "Quake" in the name, I had hoped and expected that it would be Quake 3 with vehicles or a Quake-themed version of UT2004. But, it's not. That said, the game has grown on me, but if it were any slower I wouldn't play it.
I love it, gamers have been screaming at dice about flaws in their product (BF series, etc) and only 2 years after the release of their LATEST, BF2142 they're putting in the widescreen support that was wanted at product release, and yet they claim to know where the future of gaming is going.
Free tip, listen to the consumers, then you'll know what we want and where the future SHOULD go....asses...
On another note, it's really sad how almost every publisher/developer expects every game to be a huge, blockbuster hit that appeals to everyone everywhere. Can you imagine what would happen if the film or television industry followed this philosophy? There is a market for niche games, just as there is a market for niche everything. Greedy fucks.
(I hate the dumb negativity of some of the blues crowd).
Negativity is only dumb when it is unfounded. If the negative posters here actually played the game, their opinion is qualified.
Yes, being able to kill infantry without any recourse by them from miles away is why Battlefield is so great.
"intense" heh. Quake 3 is intense. BATTLEFIELD IS BORINGFIELD AMIRITE.
Nah Jerykk, I agree. No game will ever be able to dethrone how boring BF42/BF2 are. Sitting in a tank spamming infantry from 5 miles away is the definition of skill!
Battlefield's vehicles are actually fun. Well, BF2's were fun. 2142's vehicles kinda sucked, besides the Walker.
This is an obvious ripoff of TF2. PATHETIC!
I don't care if its free, I won't be playing this. It's a completely dumbed-down version for children. PATHETIC!
BF2's combat was fine except for infantry which was fixed in 2142 but at the expense of pretty much removing air vehicles.
Was hoping for a BF3 to combine the best of both, until EA's announcement yesterday.
A german games magazine page has some more details:

* 3rdPerson only
I'm not one to complain about something free, but I wonder how useful a game can be that puts you at a disadvantage unless you pay for upgrades. It sort of defeats the purpose of being free, no? I can't see anyone enjoying getting consistently ganked by people with better equipment, so they will either quit or pony up cash to remain competitive.
How does it do that? They could easily take a page from War Rock and other Korean MMOs and simply force you to RENT the best weapons and stuff.
Given EA's track record with support, I wouldn't frankly trust them very far with my $10 a month or whatever. Of all the publisher/developer combinations to be doing this sort of thing, EA/Dice are the _last_ one I'd give monthly money to.
Gamers will be able to buy items which customise their appearance in the world, but will not be able to seek an advantage through buying weapons.
This was already overwritten by the statement in the NY Times article...
Players can pay not only for decorative items like shoes and jerseys but also for boosts in their players’ speed, agility and accuracy. Mr. Florin said that while most users do not buy anything, a sizable minority ends up spending $15 to $20 a month.
So to stay in the competition you have to pay...
man i hate to disagree with 12 posters in a row...it's clearly a move toward TF2 style art, which is cool. art isn't innovative, it's pretty conformist. look at the cars on the road. all the models of a given year, across all the makers, are pretty identical. so TF2 is leading the way to a less superrealistic art style. so what? after years of increasing realism, i'm kind of enjoying this cartoony stuff.
as for the suckage: the FTP model will definitely be biting us in the ass, no questions there. There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch.
this looks like a fun game. if BF 1942 and BF2 are any measure (carefully ignoring shitfests like BFV and BF2142) this game may well rock. i'll definitely be playing it.
