One giant red flag after another.

Constantly style over substance

So what you're saying is... it will be out of EA and polished to a sheen in no time at all.
Not sure why you'd expect an early access game to be finished in no time at all. It's in early access because it's early in development.

Haven't done it but, know actors and film crew. It's also very easy to look up the pay rates. $350 for 1 line or 4 hrs. Doesn't matter. Without the union you'd get $10 for a line and $200 for 4 hrs.
And just because you get $350 for a few hrs work doesn't mean it's steady income or that you will work again that month.

Hours spent going to auditions, travelling, etc etc. Not sure why an actor would be over selling their situation. Maybe you are in LA or NYC where there is a steady stream of work. That's not the case for the majority of cities and actors.

FYI not everyone lives in the same place nor does all actor work pay the same. So you can tell me all you want that my numbers are wrong. It was an average as the avg VO call is between $300-$400 for a few hrs.
"$ 2000 USD flat. Includes 2 hr or less session"
"$1100 Per spot + 1 x $250/session fee +$175 call back session (If Necessary)"
"$250 Session + $750 Buyout"
"Rate: $550/spot (could be 2+ spots)"
"RATE: $1,000 buyout - 1 year"

These are some of the first ones I found when searching my email of old auditions. All 3 lines or less for pretty low level commercials.

My point is that for the time an actor needs to put into the project, the money is fantastic. It's not the developer/publisher's fault that the voice acting industry is a very competitive one, and jobs are sometimes few and far between, and that actors need to audition for many roles before they land one. All of that is irrelevant in this discussion.

Home renovators spend countless hours driving to jobs and doing quotes, only to have 10% of those potential clients turn into profitable clients.

Like some other people have said, voice actors should be pretty low in priority to get bonuses from game sales. The average developer works long hours and make much less money for the amount of time and effort they put into the game. And it's considered "their game" much more than it should be for the V/O actors

Yea they worked 4 hrs this week to make $350. Next job might not be for 2 weeks. Real profitable.

Lots of comments from people in this thread that have no idea or comprehension how actors jobs/lives work. It's just ignorance.
How many V/O auditions have you done? I've done a lot of them, and the rate you can make per hour is sometimes staggering, much more than your random number of $350/4 hours. Try $350 for one line - a walk into the studio and walk out kinda deal. For a toilet paper ad.

Sure, it's not easy to get the gig, but that's not what we're talking about here. No creative job is easy to get

And how is noting the gap between gigs relevant? We're talking about money for time put into a project, not consistency of work.

You mentioned ignorance?

Sounds like what they're asking for should be better working conditions, not more money. They complain about stressful sessions that strain their voice, and are asking for more money in return?

Right, because the developers have fantastic working conditions and great pay...

Voice acting is very profitable already, with actors making hundreds of dollars in a few hours, already. Their take-home is much bigger than the average dev. They can fuck off.

And save them from paying ~30% or whatever their cost would be to steam.
Yeah but then they have to pay for the maintenance of Origin. Still, probably comes out to less money in the end

Wish they'd just do a remake of FC2, fixing all of it's problems while they're at it. What an incredibly atmospheric game

I agree. I simply don't have the time to invest into incredibly long games.

Quality over quantity

I think I'd enjoy a game like this more if they had say, 10 planets, and fleshed them all out with cool things to explore and a pretty basic story to push you along.

Amazing tech, don't get me wrong.. but I agree on there needing to be more meat to the gameplay. Exploration is fun, but only if there's interesting things to find, and usually those need to be carefully placed by devs

I'm just surprised that some people fail to see how many red flags there are with this project and how any project, in any industry is bound to fail to meet expecations due to these factors.

- Over-promising, under-delivering
- Constant delays
- Internal turmoil, staff leaving
- Megalomaniac lead on the project
- Charging insane amounts of money for goods that are only promised
- Plethora of bad press and rumours surrounding the project
- No true accountability

But fuck it, this is fun, so by all means...

EDIT: feel free to add to the list

The overzealous voice acting is so overly fake it's vomit-inducing.

Game's graphics are pleasing, though.

Old Blood still worth a go though, right?

The level I liked the most in NO was one of, if not the first(?) level which was in the castle. So I have a feeling I'd like Old Blood a lot
