It's using an in-house engine, an updated version from the first game. |

Yeah I have an HD 4870 so there's no option for me in the advanced graphics.
Euphoria is just an animation/physics engine (used in GTA4). The game would look basically the same, but the people would react to you grappling/manipulating them so much better
Lol, good video |

There's no option for Bokeh filter. Looks like it's defaulted on with ATi cards. With Nvidia cards theres an option. But, I'm also reading that even with Bokeh off, people still see the background blurred/doubled (like me). EDIT: I'm not talking about the heat distortion, either
I like to have god mode on so I can do absolutely anything I want without being interrupted. If I were to actually play the missions properly, though, I'd have it off. |

My screen is sharp all the way to the end of the world. (obviously with lower LOD, but there's no blur/haze.) Bokeh filter? I don't even know where that is.
Could you maybe take a screenshot of your settings for me? I definitely have blur/haze as far as the eye can see.

I wish there was a way to make that damn rope stronger though. It breaks WAY too quickly.
Creston Dude, there's a trainer for the demo that makes your rope way stronger, and gives you multiple ropes. I tethered 3 cars to an enemy helicopter and watched it try to come after me. lol
I also tethered a chain of enemies to my car and drove around, watching them bounce behind me.
God, I wish this game used the Euphoria engine.
Anyway, you can probably find the same trainer for the full game on this page: http://m0001.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_just_cause_2.shtml |

So I played the demo again, and I had a lot more fun since I was using a trainer
My favourite moment was attaching a soldier to a heli, then flying it up real high just to bail out and watch it spin outta control while falling above it. I did that several times, it's just fucking cool.
I REALLY wish you could get rid of the distance blur/haze, though, cause it kills the awe of the view distance.
Also, I still think the gunplay is pretty bad. |

Acleacius wrote on Mar 25, 2010, 12:26: Did you also see me say it was going to be bad? That's what you get when someone says I hope it's great but will expect average so I am not too disappointed?
If you have been following the game, then you know how long Mafia 2 has been in production. Additionally one of the co-founding members left during development and it appears to be due to disgruntled reasons whether it's with the game or the takeover by 2K, idk.
Also what about the 2K buy out or forced buy out? A 15 hour game?
How can you not notice all the problems over the last 8 years of development? Really, it's been 8 years, that seem normal to you? No, you said "I hope this is great but all the signs look pretty grim". "all the signs look pretty grim" does not translate into anything positive, that's what I'm commenting on.
I have been following the game. 15 hours of STORY gameplay is fine with me, considering it's an open world game and there will be plenty of exploring and other side missions. And 8 years of development doesn't concern me in the least, I see it as more time for them to polish. The first Mafia game was a polished diamond.
Long development time or drama within the team or not, this game looks great and I haven't seen any evidence of otherwise. |

I saw a massive performance upgrade going from 10.2 drivers to the 10.3 preview drivers in Bad Company 2 with my HD 4870.
I think I'll just stick with those drivers for now.

I wouldn't be so opposed to a third FEAR sequel if the second game had actually felt like a sequel to the first.
I only played the FEAR 2 demo, and I'd had enough.
When I played the demo for FEAR, I was dying for more.

I pretty much agree with you, Beamer.
I played the demo and had a blast while skydiving, parachuting and grappling my way around. As soon as I stopped to participate in some combat, I stopped having a good time. The gunplay mechanics are just too weak for me to like this game as a whole. The only time I had fun fighting soldiers was in the nuclear silo pulling them off ledges with the grappling hook.
As for vehicles, some are fun to drive and some are too stiff or all over the road. I did all the stunts, grappling and chuting from one car to another, but I wasn't wowed to say the least.
Just not complete as an overall package, but as you said, it's a great playground... for a while.
Beamer wrote on Mar 23, 2010, 23:36: A bunch of reviews have knocked this as a great playground but terrible game. Which is how I felt about the demo.
Honestly, no surprise given the first one, which was a potentially great playground that was heavily flawed and a terrible game. I figured they could polish all the flaws. Sounds like they only did in the playground part.
The missions, you know the actual "game," of the first was repetitive and terrible. I understand that's exactly the same here.
The playground, though, has a lot of potential, but I hated the demo in parts. For one, the gunplay felt off. And the world felt far too large. If you ended up in the middle of nowhere, which I did often, you had to run for a long, long time to get somewhere. And often that somewhere was nothing interesting. I've heard that in missions you can often spend over 10 minutes just getting somewhere. Just traveling. Sounds like an MMORPG.
The grappling hook is fantastic. The way it interacts with everything is fantastic. Just not enough to get $60 out of me. Felt more like a tech demo than a game. However, if Saints Row 3 had that grappling hook I'd never shut up about it. |

Looks like their support for BC2 is much better than BF2 right out of the gate.
But, by all means, correct me if I'm wrong. I've been playing BC2 much more than I ever played BF2, |

This is in regards to the video linked in this post:
I want to punch the blond lady in the side of the head.
Not because I've been "corrupted" by playing the likes of Bad Company 2, but because she's a stupid, thick-headed cunt who filters out any opposed information coming into her head, but opens the flood gates and her big mouth when her "opinion" needs release.
Maybe she should stop whatever hobbies she has, since it's obviously turning her into an ignorant, rude bitch. |

If I played a ton of shooters on 360 I'd probably grab this considering, even though it's not perfect, it's probably FAR better than using the gamepad. So far though, the only FPS I've played is The Darkness (and Halo 3 for only about 10 minutes, because it blows) |

The 50 points for killing the dude was recorded, but the +10 headshot, +30 revenge kill and +30 defensive kill were not.
Stuff like that should definitely be recorded since you do earn it while you're alive. |

Goddam exploiters are ruining it for the rest of us.
So many times I've filled a bunch of dudes with lead or laid down a great mortar strike and not gained any kill or assist points because I got killed.
One time I laid a mortar strike, and "got" points for vehicle damage, vehicle destroy and 2 kills while I was dead, that obviously did not register.
DICE, if you're going to keep it this way, at least take out the sound and text that indicates you've gained points while you're dead, it's deceiving. |
